***** Thank you very much for your view, comment and fave.

I invite you to visit all my photo-gallery. Thanks

In this shot, I treated the still life as a preparation display for a "Natura morta" painting and tried to use the candlelights to shine and accent the tips and most protruding parts of the fruits.

Chestnuts/castagne, hazelnuts/nocciole, pomegranates/ melograni, one persimmon/cako and one medlar/nespola: the autumnal crop from my backyard, from my neighbors and the woods in the neighborhood.

In November we headed to the Napa Valley in northern California. It's famous around the world for the wineries and their wines. This time we did not go for wine tasting, but to enjoy the fall colors. We stopped at ZD Wines for sunset. This winery is on the east side of the Napa Valley, hence the longer shadows at sunset.

I processed a realistic, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

On the way back from the historical village of Shirakawa-go we spent an afternoon in Takayama, in the Gifu Prefecture of Japan. Takayama has nice old streets, well preserved from the Edo and Meiji period. A rickshaw is passing by, carrying a tourist.

Cracker of a night at the Lime Kiln with Chris T this evening. We have started splitting the night in two. We work with one camera at a time and focus on one idea. Chris went first tonight and once he'd bagged a peach it was my turn. I've found our productivity in working this way far higher than before and instead of ending up with lots of mediocre shots we can focus on nailing an idea as we envisioned plus have an individual piece each.

Framed, focused and worked out best exposures for each element and fired the shutter. Lightning bolt exposed and cap on. changed focus and zoomed out to 11mm and span the dome. Chris stood on the back wall and popped the flash on full power 24mm twice, next was the old net curtain and then switched on the laser which we let burn in for a couple of minutes.

This is number 142 of my 365....I've checked :)

Nothing on the ideas front which was working so back to the cupped hands and kaleidoscope thing.

This is number 89 of my 366.

On Saturday mornings I join a meditation class at beautiful Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, California. This is the Lower House, also called Zen Garden House. It has a beautiful stone garden.

Today we went hiking at the Almaden Quicksilver County Park in San Jose, California. It's an extensive park with many trails, and not many people. There is also a ghost town, called English Town, built to house miners. Quicksilver, aka mercury was mined from 1847 to 1976. The mines were highly important during the California Gold Rush, since mercury was used to extract gold from ore. This is one of the few ruins that remain.

Hakone Gardens, a Japanese garden in Saratoga, California, was recently open at night for cherry blossom viewing. It was a a wonderful experience, the drizzling rain contributed to the mystical atmosphere. When I left I passed by a small bamboo garden, where a light casted barcodes on the ground.

More of the same: trying to get "pictorial" style a bit with the grainy quality of the iPhone cam in low light, plus a bit of postproduction.

He seems not to know where to go or what to do. Probably will end up on a taxi without a destination.

In June I stayed for two weeks in my hometown Schuders, located in the Swiss Alps near the Austrian border. I planned to work 50%, but it sure is hard to do that with a view like this!

On Saturday we attended the annual Sacramento contest powwow in Sacramento, California. Indigenous people of America gathered from all over the USA and Canada. Groups of many different tribes gather in a big circle. The tribes drum and chant, one group after the other, while dancers in traditional dress dance in the center of the circle. Elders judge the performances - a friendly competition. We could feel the energy on the field, a real uplifting experience!

We mingled with a tribe from near Sacramento. After asking for permission I took this shot of mother and daughter. The mom arranged the girl's dress before the dance. I gave her my card, offering to send the photo.

I walked around home for scenes to capture with my new ultrafast f/0.75 vintage X-ray lens. This is a flower on our kitchen table. As you can see, the lens is very soft. The center is reasonably sharp, the outside is blurry, and has strong vignetting. The depth of field is very shallow at about 8 mm.

The new toy is a German made Rodenstock XR-Heligon 50mm f/0.75. This lens was used for X-ray machines before the digital age. The flange focal distance is less than 10 mm, e.g. too short for Sony E-mount, which has 18 mm. I adapted (aka abused) a Leica L39 to E-mount adapter for this X-ray lens. I gained 5 mm by placing the lens inside the E-mount, resulting in a 13 mm flange focal distance. Close enough, but not to the point where I can focus to infinity. With this setup the focus distance is about 32 cm. This lens has a fixed focus distance, e.g. I have to focus with my feet, which can be challenging with the very shallow depth of field. The lens is always fully open since it has no diaphragm.

See shots of the setup, and more test shots on the Quality HDR Photography Facebook page at bit.ly/34XkRf5.

I really appreciate your kindness and visit in my gallery 💕 to read your lovely comments or receive your faves is a great pleasure for me but please no awards...

The Amber Room is still missing, but I think a chair or two wound up at my neighborhood cafe...

(If you're not up on your looted-art history: a Russian palace had a room completely paneled in amber; the German army looted it during World War II; and it hasn't been seen since. Rumors of it turn up every now and then, and people are still searching for it.)

Bit of intentional camera movement today. Loved this effect for a while having seen a few people do it especially a tasty one from Tim during this 365 so thought I'd give it a bash.

Just been for a walk to the local duck pond and spotted quite a few different colours which seemed to work well together. The clear blue sky was reflecting off the water and the sun was casting a beautiful golden glow on the trees. Did about 50 of these and it was a tough decision on which should make the 365 so here are my two faves.

I like this one for the fact you can still tell what the subject matter is.

This is part 1 of day 32 in my 365.

We went to the Death Valley in California with the goal to experience the sailing stones on the Racetrack Playa at new moon. Before dark we scouted interesting stones on the playa and marked their GPS location. It was very windy at night, and we waited in the car for the wind to die down. It did not. I decided to go out on the playa in this condition; I found the rocks via GPS location. I used a dimmed-down LED floodlight to illuminate the black night. I placed the light on the ground, which produces these unusual lights & shadows patterns. In addition I used my headlight to illuminate the sailing stone.

Sailing stones are a geological phenomenon where rocks move and inscribe long tracks along a playa (dry lakebed) without human or animal intervention. Instead, rocks move when large ice sheets a few millimeters thick floating in an ephemeral winter pond start to break up during sunny days. These thin floating ice panels, frozen during cold winter nights, are driven by wind and shove rocks at up to 5 m/min across the muddy playa. More details.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, carefully pulled the curves, and desaturated the image. HDR processing is very sensitive to noise. I had the ISO at 1600, resulting in substantial color noise. The monochrome looks better in this case.
