In this shot, I treated the still life as a preparation display for a "Natura morta" painting and tried to use the candlelights to shine and accent the tips and most protruding parts of the fruits.
Chestnuts/castagne, hazelnuts/nocciole, pomegranates/ melograni, one persimmon/cako and one medlar/nespola: the autumnal crop from my backyard, from my neighbors and the woods in the neighborhood.

In November we headed to the Napa Valley in northern California. It's famous around the world for the wineries and their wines. This time we did not go for wine tasting, but to enjoy the fall colors. We stopped at ZD Wines for sunset. This winery is on the east side of the Napa Valley, hence the longer shadows at sunset.
I processed a realistic, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

On the way back from the historical village of Shirakawa-go we spent an afternoon in Takayama, in the Gifu Prefecture of Japan. Takayama has nice old streets, well preserved from the Edo and Meiji period. A rickshaw is passing by, carrying a tourist.
I processed an enhanced and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them, and carefully adjusted the color balance and pulled the curves to pop the scene.

Cracker of a night at the Lime Kiln with Chris T this evening. We have started splitting the night in two. We work with one camera at a time and focus on one idea. Chris went first tonight and once he'd bagged a peach it was my turn. I've found our productivity in working this way far higher than before and instead of ending up with lots of mediocre shots we can focus on nailing an idea as we envisioned plus have an individual piece each.
Framed, focused and worked out best exposures for each element and fired the shutter. Lightning bolt exposed and cap on. changed focus and zoomed out to 11mm and span the dome. Chris stood on the back wall and popped the flash on full power 24mm twice, next was the old net curtain and then switched on the laser which we let burn in for a couple of minutes.
This is number 142 of my 365....I've checked :)
Nothing on the ideas front which was working so back to the cupped hands and kaleidoscope thing.

On Saturday mornings I join a meditation class at beautiful Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, California. This is the Lower House, also called Zen Garden House. It has a beautiful stone garden.

Today we went hiking at the Almaden Quicksilver County Park in San Jose, California. It's an extensive park with many trails, and not many people. There is also a ghost town, called English Town, built to house miners. Quicksilver, aka mercury was mined from 1847 to 1976. The mines were highly important during the California Gold Rush, since mercury was used to extract gold from ore. This is one of the few ruins that remain.
