A fiery sunrise at Norah Head this morning

The brown beach and blue sea and sky mix together!

The historic South Stack Lighthouse is located on a small island reached via a descent of 400 steps down the steep mainland cliffs.

Visitors may tour the former lighthouse engine room before climbing to the top of the lighthouse. South Stack is a wonderful place to watch thousands of breeding seabirds including guillemots, razorbills and puffins.

Tours of South Stack Lighthouse are organised by South Stack Ynys Lawd Ltd. under licence from the Corporation of Trinity House.

This long-exposure photograph captures the Phare des Barges (Barges Lighthouse), standing solitary in the Atlantic mist off Les Sables-d’Olonne, France. Taken at dusk just as the red beacon ignites, the composition immerses the viewer in a subtle interplay of deep blues and soft tonal gradations. The sea blends into the sky, creating a nearly abstract visual plane, pierced only by the luminous pulse of the lighthouse — a solitary guardian in the growing night.

Ushuaia's Lighthouse, often referred to as the "Lighthouse at the End of the World," is located on Isla de los Estados (Staten Island) in the Beagle Channel off the southern coast of Argentina. Its official name is the Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse.

This lighthouse was built in 1920 and stands as a guiding beacon for ships navigating the treacherous waters of the channel. The name "Lighthouse at the End of the World" was popularized by Jules Verne’s novel of the same name, though his fictional lighthouse was set on a different island.

The area surrounding the lighthouse is known for its rugged beauty and harsh weather conditions, adding to its mystique. It’s a significant landmark for maritime navigation and a symbol of the remote, frontier-like quality of Ushuaia, which bills itself as the southernmost city in the world. If you're ever in Ushuaia, taking a boat tour to see the lighthouse is a popular activity.

Blue Star 1 becomes Dublin Star, oh la la from Cherbourg, covering for W B Yeats which was under repair at H & W in Belfast.

Usually operating the Rosslare-Pembroke route, Greek based Blue Star 1 on long term charter to Irish Ferries makes a surprise visit to Dublin that week doing two return trips on the Dublin-Cherbourg route, known for its speed, it can get up to 27 knots, plenty of va va voom.

The term Mamallapuram means the city of Mamalla, the other name of the famous Pallava Emperor Narasimhavarman I (630-670 CE) who built the famous temples in the city.

It was closed in 2001 following a perceived threat from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. The first light was commissioned here in 1887 on the roof of the Olakkannesvara Temple.

Soooo...I've decided to reboot my Flickr account and give it some real attention. This is my starting point. I'm hoping to post at least every few days for the foreseeable future, posting a mixture of old and new photographs.

Grande jetée Des Sables D'Olonne 1997

A powerful black-and-white photograph capturing the Grande Jetée at Les Sables-d’Olonne, where the red light beacon stands against the fury of the Atlantic Ocean. Waves crash with immense force against the breakwater, sending up plumes of spray that seem to dissolve into the sky. Seagulls circle in the wind, their flight accentuating both the drama and the vastness of the scene. The composition conveys a timeless dialogue between human construction and the untamed energy of the sea, caught in a fleeting yet eternal moment.

Lighthouse Melagavi at Iraion cape, Loutraki, Greece

The Dublin-Holyhead ferry connection is a vital link between Ireland and the UK, with the veteran Stena Europe proudly sailing this route. Here, it arrives at Dublin Port, framed by the Great South Wall at Poolbeg—a historic breakwater perfect for a refreshing sea breeze and a scenic stroll to the iconic red Poolbeg Lighthouse.

Stena Europe has been on a week long secondment on the Dublin-Holyhead route covering for the Stena Horizon which is away off the route itself covering for annual overhauls.

The Europe is now a veteran tub, built in 1981, usually resident on the Rosslare-Fishguard route, operate twice daily sailings between Ireland & England.

A nice treat to see her in Dublin.

Trwyn Penmon Point, on the eastern tip of Anglesey, is a breathtaking coastal headland with stunning views across the Menai Strait and towards Puffin Island. Rich in history and folklore, this place has long been associated with early Christianity, monastic life, and maritime heritage. Nearby, Penmon Priory dates back to the 6th century when St. Seiriol, a revered Welsh saint, established a religious community here. His legend lives on in the tale of his friendship with St. Cybi, where Seiriol, known as the "Pale Monk," would walk westward in the morning and eastward in the evening, avoiding the full glare of the sun, while Cybi, the "Tanned Monk," did the opposite.

Puffin Island, visible from the shore, is steeped in its own myths. Once home to a monastic settlement, local legend claims the island was cursed after one monk murdered another, leaving the site abandoned and haunted. Some say the curse lingers, and stories of eerie sightings persist. Another tale speaks of hidden treasure buried near Trwyn Du by smugglers who used the rugged coastline to evade capture. While no treasure has ever been found, the mystery continues to intrigue visitors.

Standing proudly at the waterâs edge, the black-and-white striped Trwyn Du Lighthouse has guarded the coastline since 1838, warning sailors of the dangerous currents and hidden reefs. The rhythmic tolling of its bell every 30 seconds adds to the atmospheric charm of this wild and windswept place. Whether exploring the historic ruins, watching for seals in the waves, or simply taking in the dramatic seascape, Trwyn Penmon Point remains a place where history, legend, and nature intertwine.

A perfect California day on the legendary Highway 1 — endless blue skies above, the Pacific shimmering below, and rolling coastal hills leading the eye toward the distant Point Sur Lighthouse. A place where history, rugged beauty, and the open road meet in harmony.

Somewhere between coffee stops and ocean viewpoints, I pulled over on this windy July afternoon — the kind where the air smells like salt and childhood memories. The coastal cypress looked like it had survived a thousand windy battles, sculpted patiently by time and sea air. Yellow Sand Verbena danced in the breeze, and there in the distance stood Point Sur Lighthouse, keeping watch like it always has. Blue sky, wildflowers, ocean wind... what can I say — all the ingredients of a perfect Highway 1 road trip day.

Built in China in 2010.

What drew me to this scene was the harmony of contrasts, from the clean geometry of masts rising against the old lighthouse to the soft evening light warming facades once built to impress, and the stillness of the harbour holding everything in place. There’s a layered richness here: fishing boats, Victorian grandeur, a touch of seaside grit. Scarborough showing all its faces in a single frame.
