Point Cabrillo Lighthouse near Mendocino .. Given a prior visit to the beautiful Heceta Head Lighthouse in Oregon, we have visited two of the three British-built lighthouse lenses in operation in the U.S. today
The Lantern Room at the top of the Tower houses a 3rd order British-built Fresnel lens by Chance Bros. with a range of 13-15 miles. The lens was originally powered by a kerosene oil lamp. There are only two other British-built lighthouse lenses in operation in the U.S. today: a 1st order lens at Heceta Head Lighthouse in Oregon and a 2nd order rear range light at Ambrose Channel, Staten Island, New York.

From this point the lighthouse looks like a small toy building before the coast. But in real life, this lighthouse has height of 42 metres and the grass grows about 150 metres above the sea. No composition, just an interesting perspective...

Built in 1845, the Point Prim lighthouse is the first and oldest lighthouse on Prince Edward Island and one of only two round brick lighthouses in Canada.
Possibly a little too cropped at the top me thinks.

Not far from where we stayed in Newport is the Yaquina Lighthouse. Liked this view of it standing guard over the fields without water.

Fort Constitution State Historic Site is located on a peninsula on the northeast corner of New Castle Island. It overlooks both the Piscataqua River and the Atlantic Ocean.
Fire Island Lighthouse is one the largest and best preserved lighthouses in the Northeast and is just a short easy drive from New York City. It is 168 feet tall that was opened in 1858 to replace a 74 foot tower built in 1826. In 1974 the United States Coast Guard decommissioned the lighthouse. The care of lighthouse was taken over by Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society and raised 1.2 million to restore the lighthouse. In 1985 it was restored to active duty as an active aid to navigation. In 2006 it became a private aid to navigation with it's operation and maintenance being taken care of by Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society instead of the USCG. The lighthouse keepers house with the red roof is now a museum with a gift shop. (I bought a fridge magnet!) and for ten dollars or five dollars senior you can climb to the top and enjoy a spectacular view of the area. You can access the area with a half mile walk from the parking area. However during the summer the area is jammed packed with beach goers so the best time to visit this landmark is off season.

"Flying visit to Chester, and (with an couple of hours on my hands) decided to seek out New Brighton, and in particular this lighthouse which has been on my tick list for a very long time.
Nowhere near the conditions I hoped for, and this serves pretty much as a record shot, to remind me of somewhere I'd like to get back to in the future.
New Brighton itself was a curious place from what I saw of it, and would like a mooch around given more time."
