A closer view of this iconic Oregon lighthouse.
"The area around the viewpoint was home to First people's tribes for hundreds of years as it was an amazing ground for both hunting and fishing. One of the first Europeans who visited this area in the late 18th-century was Bruno de Heceta, a Spanish explorer who gave the name to this headland. First European settlers started to move into this area in 1888, the same year the United States Lighthouse Service approved Heceta Head Light construction." Wiki

I popped down to Penmon whilst it was still dark on the day of the wedding. Unfortunately there wasn't time for me to wait until it got light, but there was plenty time for me to get chilled right to the core. I ended up with a lifeless picture to start the day, which was thankfully soon forgotten as the wedding turned it into a spectacular day..........and night.
The lighthouse in Portand ME. This was the first stop on our fall vacation in New England. I was lucky with the weather, we got there just before the rain started, so I had the chance to photogtraph the lighthouse in sunlight, but interesting clouds on the sky at the same time.
I've always enjoyed a brief stop here on the beautiful drive between Carmel and San Francisco.

Wood Islands Lighthouse guides mariners to Wood Islands Harbour. The lighthouse was built and put into operation in 1876 and is inside the Wood Islands Provincial Park. And as the evening darkens, lo~! how bright,
through the deep purple of the twilight air,
Beams forth the sudden radiance of the light,
with strange, unearthly splendor in the glare~!

Portland Bill Lighthouse is a functioning lighthouse on the Isle of Portland, Dorset. The lighthouse is located at the very south of the island, warning coastal traffic off of Portland Bill. The lighthouse and its boundary walls are Grade II Listed.
Both Portland Bill and Chesil Beach are the locations of many wrecks of vessels that failed to reach Weymouth or Portland Roads. Portland Bill Lighthouse guides vessels heading for Portland and Weymouth through these hazardous waters as well as acting as a waymark for ships navigating the English Channel.
As Portland's largest and most recent lighthouse, the Trinity House operated Portland Bill Lighthouse is distinctively white and red striped, standing at a height of 41 metres. It was completed by 1906 and first shone out on 11 January 1906. Originally, both the Old Higher Lighthouse and Old Lower Lighthouse were the two functioning lighthouses on the island, where both were opened in 1716 and continued to warn ships of the coast until 1906, when both were decommissioned. The Old Lower Lighthouse became a bird observatory whilst the Old Higher Lighthouse became the home of Marie Stopes, and today remains a holiday let.
The lighthouse was was built with stone from surrounding quarries at Portland Bill. The area was quarried for centuries until they were abandoned by the early years of the 20th century, following the lighthouse's counstruction.
Arguably Portland's biggest attraction and most photographed feature, the Portland Bill Lighthouse is open to the public, where tours are operated by Trinity House, and a visitor centre is also a big part of the lighthouse.
Portland Bill is a narrow promontory (or bill) of Portland stone, which forms the most southerly part of Isle of Portland. One of Portland's most popular destinations, Portland Bill is also noted for its rough coast.
The light pollution in the sky just above the horizon is from the coastal town of Weymouth, 11 km (7 miles) away.

I love lighthouses. We've visited almost every single one in Michigan, and are trying to complete visits to every single Great Lakes Lighthouse. Seul Choix (say "Sis Shwa") is one of my favorites... so much so that I've visited it four or five times. Great location, you can climb to the lantern room (even though it's still active!), and the folks that man it and give tours are the nicest around. Located near Gulliver, MI, it's well worth the stop if you're in the area.
Happisburgh lighthouse sits on the far east coast of Britain, a few miles up the coast from Great Yarmouth.
A bit of artistic licence here, as the light wasn't shining on this day!
Another highlight on our road trip along the Oregon Coast Highway was the Heceta Head Lighthouse, which sits very photogenically on a bluff. Unfortunately, it took some patience until it finally emerged from the coastal fog.
The lighthouse at Hurst Point on a wet and windy day. Its a very interesting and atmospheric place near Milford On Sea on the south coast. There also Hurst Castle which is very interesting and great views of the Needles and the Isle Of Wight.
