I decided today to make a lightbox. Total cost was only around ten dollars. Old Epson printer box, tissue, four background papers I already had, just picked up two clamp on work lights and a piece of poster paper. I cut a slit in the back top so I can insert the background paper of choice. Now if I could just stop sticking my thumbs through the tissue on the sides...

My lightbox is a 14" cube made from foam core board. There is a 50w worklight clamped at the back, a 430EX on the left and a 420EX on the right. A 580EX is mounted to the camera hotshoe.
Built a small and delightfully portable (and store-able) lightbox today:
Sterlite translucent storage box
3 brooder light covers, with 60 watt incandescent bulbs
Adhesive utensil hooks
Dowel rod
1 yard each of white bleached muslin and black broadcloth
Yardstick
I hung the utensil hooks on the "ceiling" of the light box, and ran the dowel through the hooks. I drape the fabric over the dowel. The lights clamped on either side of the yardstick provide enough counterbalance to hold it up, and I rest the other one on the top of the yard stick. Because the bulbs are only 60 watt (though I picked up some 75s, too) and incandescent rather than halogen, I don't worry that I'm going to start a fire mid-session.
Props to Stephen for the design.

Decided to make a lightbox in my closet out of Bristol board. The "box" still needs a bit of tape to hold it together, but it works well (so far) without it.

I got my lightbox from amazon today and I decided to do some test shots with it! I'm really happy with it and I can't wait to use it for regular photos! Its a little hard to capture? the light because as you can see the backround sometimes varies from white to grey or even extremely light blue. Happy New Year!
Here is Parker, wearing an OTS shirt, Barbie shorts, Takara converse, Onionblythe tights and glasses from TIB. I need to work on the lightbox results a little, I think - she's a little yellow.
I built a lightbox, it's been working decently. I don't really know what I'm doing with it yet.
I definitely found (later) that having the target lit indirectly looks much better.

My DIY lightbox.
I used a large cardboard box. Cut out holes and cover them will white tissue paper (the present packing kind). And used a white poster board inside for the infinite background look. The bulb I used was a cool white color.

so I brought the ancient lightbox down from the attic and had a little play time. Not happy with the way the camera appears to read the identical background in various shades ranging from white to yellow, and it is also hard to get the focus right, but otherwise it's been fun to play around.
