Build a classic light box for shadow exploration. These images MUST be in black and white. You will build a box in which you arrange (through wires, staples, tape, glue, whatever) various shapes, objects and materials. You will then turn off the main room lights, and turn on a point light source. Set the camera on a tripod and explore your lightbox for interesting abstract play of light and shadow.
Schuyler sent me pics from his new DIY lightbox and I knew I just had to make one too. The only thing was I didn't really have any projects to shoot in it.
While at the zoo today I noticed they had the newer coke cups. They aren't really anything special, I just happened to study the whole Coca-Cola revamp from two years ago and when I saw the cup I immediately wanted to attempt to recreate the photo in their advertising.
As you can see I had to use a different straw and the printing isn't the same (you don't see the coke bottles along either edge) but I think I did an ok job.
In all, it was a good study on lighting (I used two Home Depot drop lights with compact flourescent bulbs) and product shooting.
$10 and about an hour of my time (including the trip to the hardware store & thrift shop) built this lightbox.

My Cactus V5 transceivers arrived and I made a lightbox from a cardboard box and muslin.
This is first time use of both. These are kids cowboy boots, size 3, purchased during my trip to Arizona as a memento.
I used this strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-diy-10-macro-photo-s... when making the lightbox.
Two sb-600, one on either side of the lighbox.
I think I'm going to need a) more lights, and b) different bulbs (full-spectrum instead of regular incandescent).

Shot in my $2 lightbox. 2 GSM-D1s on the sides, and a 430ex on cam 1/2 power aimed straight up. Soon to be on eBay.

Tuesday night I made this thingy.
Total assembling time: 15 minutes. Total Cost: about 2.5 Euros plus flashes, which I already had (papers come in bunches of 10-20 leaves: I spent 12 Euros and I now have enough material to make another 4 at least).
Cost of a "professional" lightbox: 250 Euros.
If you want one for yourself get the instructions on strobist, including a version with alogen worklamps (less than 50 Eur each) in place of flashes.

This is the latest purchase for the Sackville Photography Club. It's an Optex Lightbox with green and blue backgrounds. The light is very even and it is nice and portable. My only complaint is the texture on the backdrop is rather coarse and shows in the close up photos. (A minor complaint)
Shade : 43 x 66mm
Rod : 8 x 420mm
Cordset : 2M SWITCH ON/OFF
Finish : Chrome
Bulb : MR11/12V/35W

Don't let poor lighting ruin the effect of your advertisement. This UL listed Spot Light attaches to top of your Retractable Banner providing bright lighting to draw more attention to your display and highlight your graphics. The simple vertical clip design securely holds onto the supporting pole of your banner stand. Because it clips from behind, it is not seen and therefore does not detract from your banner presentation.
