SUNDERLAND AFC unveiled a memorial to commemorate its players who were killed in action during the First and Second World Wars.
The memorial, which is located outside the Stadium of Light’s West Stand, honours the seven former Black Cats killed in the First World War – Alexander Barrie, James Chalmers, Jack Huggins, Sandy McAllister, Albert Milton, Leigh Richmond Roose and Thomas Rowlandson – along with Percy Saunders, who was killed in action during the Second World War.
Went out last night (after dark!) with a plan to find a solitary lamppost for my image for 7DOS Minimalist Sunday. Only got as far as the light on the outside of my house which actually fitted the idea of a night light illuminating only a small area from the source.
Beautiful digital light arts festival, on in Poole from 15 to 17 February 2018.

Yeah, so I knew one of my Hassie backs was leakin' worse than a hypertrophic prostate after developing the film from the summer trip, but because of the chaos that followed the trip, I hadn't had the time to track it down. Finally, I found the culprit, and I've ordered replacement seals for it on Ebay :-) In the mean time, this roll was severely compromised due to the leak :P This a roll of Ektachrome 64 I got as part of my massive, 900+ roll expired film lot I inherited from a New Hampshire photographer. Even deeper blues than Velvia! Schaweet!
I walk past this pretty much everyday and it never really caught my eye. I was checking my camera was working at all and shot the first thing nearby, and then realised how interesting such a mundane thing can look. Shot it again while paying it proper attention, and this was the result.
Tribute in Light is a commemorative public art installation first presented six months after 9/11 and then every year thereafter, from dusk to dawn, on the night of September 11. It has become an iconic symbol that both honors those killed and celebrates the unbreakable spirit of New York.
Assembled on the roof of the Battery Parking Garage south of the 9/11 Memorial, the twin beams reach up to four miles into the sky and are comprised of 88 7,000-watt xenon light bulbs positioned into two 48-foot squares, echoing the shape and orientation of the Twin Towers.
On the anniversary of 9/11, the Memorial Plaza is open to the public from 3 p.m. to midnight for the viewing of Tribute in Light. The installation can also be viewed from a 60-mile radius around lower Manhattan.
Tribute in Light was conceived by several artists and designers who were then brought together under the auspices of the Municipal Art Society and Creative Time: John Bennett, Gustavo Boneverdi, Richard Nash Gould, Julian LaVerdiere, and Paul Myoda, with lighting consultant Paul Marantz
Connecting Light art installation at Walltown Quarry on Hadrian's Wall. Quite interesting to see despite some technical problems and poor weather.
