This illustrates my new personal habit of forcing myself into pre-planning my (non-news) television usage. I've started trying to use calendaring systems as part of general lifehackery.

Rather than feed the schedule into ical, I type it directly into a wiki page and use a python-vobject plugin to generate the feed (code still a work in progress). This approach has the nice side-effect of making it super-easy to set up a new, platform-independent, editable calendar feeds without faffing around with caldav or webdav.

A little trick I used to unclutter my desktop, based on this gem from Lifehacker.

Deviders made from recycled manilla(1) and marbled card(2), paper is cut from standard letter paper with no waste, using old correspondence with blank back (3), no indexcard in sight. The clear pocket (4) is a business card wallet from a Rotomate for small scraps of notes. I blanked off the original holes with self adhesive paper and re-punched to fit my mini rack. The pencils (5) somehow crept into the photo.

OMG, this is 5 million times better than the browser hell I was in before.

Here's the post that saved me. Thanks Joe!!!

(see the image notes for what's different from before and read Scott Berkun's post on Firefox as well)

So I'm a bit data-obsessed... since the first day I moved to DC I've been tracking a whole slew of varying traits, each of which roughly fits into the five traits seen at right.

Each is equalised to a score out of ten. Unfortunately this means my Exercise rating gets drawfed between my day-to-day lethargy intermixed with here-and-there activity... versus my crazed intensive month-long backpacking trips where I rack up several dozen miles a day. So Exercise gets pushed pretty far down by my readily-obvious vacations.

These bold lines are moving average trendlines, so the far-right drops off as a result of the moving average picking up zeroes beyond the current date.

So yeah... that's basically the gist of it.

A full rack with project back-up material.

Same as absolute name for the Indexcard, I partly use it for digital file as well. It is convenient when I make many files sequentially : I can name the file without thinking. And the name is unique. These files are kept in a directory in chronological order like indexcards in a Dock.

To achieve this, I use alias of tcsh shell. This is really ad hoc method though.

1) Define alias "stamp" in ~/.tcshrc file as 'date "+%Y%m%d%a%H%M"'

2) Run the alias named "stamp" on Terminal.app

3) Copy the date

4) Paste it to file name box

5) Add keyword for convenience

Now it is possible to link digital file to indexcard like, ref. PDF 2006.11.02 18:02.

Inspired by a post in Lifehacker. I traced the shape of a frame on butcher paper, then taped onto a wall. Moved papers around to a pleasing arrangement.

Bonus- only one hole per nail.

Inspired by a post in Lifehacker. I traced the shape of a frame on butcher paper, then taped onto a wall. Moved papers around to a pleasing arrangement.

This set is on a painted wall, making the arrangement of the paper easier to view.

Note: while tracing the frame I used a pencil to poke a hole where the nail would be placed.

Buying a box of 500 coin envelopes seemed a bit excessive until I got this idea for organizing my lists of index cards. Previously I pinned each index card to the board individually. This saves me an awful lot of space and is easier to manage.

Several coin envelopes were harmed during the making.
