I again learn a valuable life lesson over the weekend and also discover another shadow part of myself.

I uncover that sometimes when I help others, I have a secret desire that their life situation will change for the better. I find that the love I have is not unconditional, it's contigent upon a better outcome for the help I render. This is not healthy thinking and action. This is just another form of control disguise as good deed.

To truly help others out of love, I cannot habor the fantasy that people will change according to my ideal. Even though I may be coming from a good intention, I cannot truly know for sure what exactly is better for another person. It's utmost arrogance and disrespectful to think that I know what is good for others better than they know for themselves.

I will learn to act without expectation. What another fellow human being wants to play or act out in one's life is not my business and responsibility, and it's not for me to interfere. I have to drop this self-righteousness that feeds the egoic drive to control others through charitable actions.

Let people be people, let others fully be themselves and accept them as who they are. It's the right thing to do for me because it makes me feel lighter. We are all fellow travelers on this journey of Life, having the privilege and ability to help one another free of expectation is truly a great blessing.

Run for Joy

Vito loves to run. Flat out on the pathway, bounding through the long grass. He has the best "butt tuck and run."

I was sorry to have cut off his legs, but his expression tells the story. ;)

It is a given in life to never judge a book by a cover. You have probably been given this important life lesson by many of your elders throughout your lifetime. This photo collage on the other hand, is a accurate representation of my life, and is something that can be judged, because it shows the many who have yet to meet me who I really am. For example, in this collage, I have included the beach in the background. This is due to the fact that this is my favorite place to be. Whether I am at a local beach, or we have traveled to a tropical location, that is where you can find me. In the top center, I have included my birthday sign, the Gemini. To the left and right of that, I have included some of my favorite brands that include Nike and Apple. Underneath the Gemini symbol, I have included a picture of an airplane, to symbolize my love to travel. Since a young child, I have been around many cultures, such as my Portuguese family, which we visit from time to time in their small island off the Portuguese mainland. In addition, My family and I have taken various trips to places like the Dominican Republic, which has allowed me to see how other places of the world are forced to live. Next, to the left of the airplane, I have included a picture of a Starbucks cup. This is due to the fact that I often like to treat myself to a Starbucks drink. Moving on the the right side of the airplane, I added an image of a soccer ball. Even though I play many sports, soccer is by far my favorite, and has become a big part of my life. I have been playing soccer since elementary school, and most recently I joined the high school team. Finally, Over all these pictures, I added an image of the american flag which symbolizes the country where I live. When you add all of these images up, you get me. Isabella Schwartz.

I made this for a school assignment. We read "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom and were supposed to illustrate the life lessons they discuss in the book. I made this to illustrate the quote "Love each other or perish".

What I want to say with it, is that if we love each other and hold on to each other, we are strong. Toghether we can accomplish anything. If we don't love each other, we will slowly fade away.

It's a bit (read: very) sloppy made. But I was just trying an idea, and it turned out pretty good. So I didn't want to start all over again.

VASEOFF! ALL-STARS CHALLENGE - VOTE MAY 15-29, 2014

I have to say, this theme made me tear up a bit. A dear friend taught me one of the best life lessons, which is to live every day to the fullest. Embrace life. As floral artists, we are able to convey that lesson through the beauty of flowers. I have always loved the inherent energy that is found in the colors of hot pink, purple and coral. I started my design by creating a box with the liatris and then wove the other elements throughout this forest of liatris to bring the design Outta the Box!

Flowers and materials featured: Variegated ginger leaf, crispy wave birdnest fern, ‘Leonella’ gloriosa lily, prairie gay feather, lily grass, ‘Miss Piggy’ rose, Japanese fantail willow, ‘Cerise’ Parrot tulip, ‘Blue Vanda’ orchid, snowball viburnum and ‘Captain Rosette’ calla

About the Florist: Bryan Swann

Bryan Swann has been with Karin’s Florist in Vienna, Va., for more than five years and has over 16 years of industry experience. He is the shop’s director of special events, has a horticulture degree and studied floral design abroad, influencing his design with worldwide aesthetics. Two of the most loving people I've known. Glad they raised me up and taught me many valuable life lessons through word and deed. Grandpa always called grandma "my tulip bud".

It's the new generation of parenting. Teach them young, I guess.

My sweet adorable godson lies in peaceful slumber. His daddy has been training him to flip the boid, and even does it in his sleep. Mama Rosie is not cool with this whatsoever. I can understand. I wouldn't want this child to be doing this in a few years, or faceboxing people, as his father does to him.

Baby Zevie is so mellow, though. He woke up after this photo and just looked around. I guess he's used to Jewfrohawk daddy doing things like this.

[In which Little Paddington teaches the potato masher a cold, cruel, harsh life lesson.]

My beautiful Facebook Paddington Lovers. I don’t know what potato mashers in Europe are like. Are they as hateful as the ones here in Central Texas? Paddington will say, “I’m going to open my favourite kitchen drawer.” and the potato masher says, “The heck you will.” Paddington isn’t quite sure if it’s a metric or imperial potato masher. All Paddington knows is that the potato masher does its very best to jam the drawer closed to keep him from fully opening it to get things out.

“I’m done with the potato masher and it’s attitude!” exclaimed Paddington. “Can you please fetch me a hammer You Lordship?”

I fetched Paddington a hammer from the tool closet. I won’t go into graphic details about what Paddington did to the potato masher with the hammer because there are children in this group. Let’s just say that potato masher won’t be jamming Paddington’s drawer where he keeps the good stuff like the kitchen spider, the tongs, and the cherry pitter. Also, the lemon or lime juicer because if Paddington is going to drink his weight in gin, he likes a sizable splash of citrus in the glass.

“The Late Queen Majesty’s mother taught me how to drink gin.” says Paddington. “She liked a zest of lemon in her drink(s). There’s a zester in here somewhere.”
