This image is of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta held each October. The balloons are over the Rio Grande. My life lesson in doing this puzzle is when it is time to put a piece in, it just fits. All of the pieces together also create a bigger picture. Experiences happen in their time for a reason. They are all connected to a bigger picture.

Vito's Life Lessons:

It doesn't matter how crooked your path (or your leg) is because it is your own.... 9/52

--------------------

Vito is a Corgi cross, but has more turn out than the average corgi. His left foot in particular is quite turned out. Not to worry- It does not bug him at all, and he still runs like crazy, and we even do agility occasionally! (when he feels like it!) I am sure with age that there will be some arthritis but we'll cross that road when we get there.

Luke 16:22-23 (NLT)

[Jesus said] “Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried, and his soul went to the place of the dead. There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side.”

DRAWING NOTES:

TIME OF DAY:

Unspecified.

LIGHTING NOTES:

The bright light from heaven provides top lighting in this scene, casting shadows below the figures.

CHARACTERS PRESENT:

The soul/spirit of Lazarus, between 2 angels.

RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:

I really enjoyed drawing & colouring up this scene. It has a simple 2 colour palette, using hues of gold, yellow, white & orange in the heaven-bound figures, whilst the background is a green/grey range of hues.

Notice the heavenly light rays that radiate out & down on the angels & Lazarus figures.

Notice also the figure of Lazarus’ body in the bottom right corner, still outside the Rich man’s gate. You may just be able to make out his arm around one of the dogs from the previous scene. The head of Lazarus’ body has lolled to one side, which is how I show he has physically died. Notice also that the other dog has its head back & is howling! I made this part of the scene sombre in terms of it’s colours, especially compared to the brighter yellow, gold & white of the heave-bound figures.

What price art? a personal story!

It can be costly, if you’re not careful! Yesterday (02/July/2014) I fell off a chair in pursuit of it!

So there I was drawing the scene above & I realised I needed some photo’ reference for the figures’ feet, as they fly up towards heaven, so I decided to stand on a chair & photograph my own feet... so far so good.

I stood on the very edge of the chair, so that my feet look like they are unsupported... but then the chair slipped away from under me (because I was SO FAR over on it’s edge) & I ended up in a heap on the floor... so far NOT so good! I broke the chair, but mercifully I didn’t brake any bones! Thank you Lord for keeping me safe!

The photo’ didn’t come out either. So I simply lifted each foot & photographed each one... no need to risk life & limb on a chair... there’s a valuable life lesson!

DEARBORN, Michigan - Starting up an urban garden on a vacant lot in your community won't solve all the economic challenges of the community, but can be a key piece to the puzzle. That was the key message Wednesday during a seminar on green initiatives during the Michigan Municipal League's 2010 Annual Convention in Dearborn. The session panelists were Erin Caudell of the Ruth Mott Foundation and Jacky and Dora King of Harvesting Earth Farm near Flint, Michigan. View a clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKTvhxbIn74) from a Michigan State University documentary about the Kings. The Kings started an urban garden in 2006 by turning an abandoned trash-ridden lot into what's now a vibrant urban garden that is selling its produce to the local community. The Kings, both karate instructors, also tie in the gardening program to their karate school - King's Karate. Karate students work the urban garden to learn life lessons and the importance of healthy eating.

Caudell gave a how-to lesson during the work shop and explained how help is available for people interested in starting an urban garden. For details about the League and what we do go to mml.org. 9 Lessons on Life From Tim Minchin

Tim Minchin is an Australian musician, comedian and actor. Last year he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Western Australia and asked to give some guidance to the students on things he had learnt travelling the world, being himself and his ideas on being a successful person.

For his speech he made a list of nine life lessons, to echo the nine lessons and carols of the traditional Christmas service. Some are simple and easy to achieve, some are harder and some will make you question your being and what you need to do to achieve a meaningful and successful life.

Before you watch the video or read the list, the overall is message is that life is meaningless. You can work hard to be comfortable and successful, but mostly you should work hard to learn as much as you can about as much as you can and taking pride in what you do. The rest will come afterwards.

So now that I’ve explained it all, here are Tim’s 8nine lessons and my take outs from them.

1. You don’t have to dream

If your dream is big enough to be a life-long effort it will give you something to do with your time, but by the time you reach it you’ll be almost dead so it won’t matter.

Rather be micro-ambitious. Put your head down and work with pride on whatever is in front of you… you never know where you might end up. Just be aware that the next worthy pursuit will probably appear in your periphery.

2. Don’t seek happiness

Happiness is like an orgasm, if you think about it too much it’ll go away. Keep busy and aim to make someone else happy, and you might find you get some as a side effect.

3. Remember, it’s all Luck.

Whether you were born rich or poor, what you do with it will allow you to define it as luck.

Understanding that you can’t truly take credit for your successes, nor truly blame others for their failures will humble you and make you more compassionate.

Empathy is intuitive, but is also something you can work on, intellectually.

4. Exercise.

Play a sport, do yoga, pump iron, run… whatever… but take care of your body. You’re going to need it. Most of us are going to live to be nearly a hundred and even the poorest of us will achieve a level of wealth that most humans throughout history could not have dreamed of.

5. Be Hard on Your Opinions.

A famous bon mot asserts that opinions are like arse-holes, in that everyone has one but I would add that opinions differ significantly from arse-holes, in that yours should be constantly and thoroughly examined.

We must think critically, and not just about the ideas of others. Be hard on your beliefs. Take them out onto the verandah and beat them with a cricket bat.

Be intellectually rigorous. Identify your biases, your prejudices, your privilege

6. Be a teacher.

Please be a teacher. Teachers are the most admirable and important people in the world. Share your ideas. Don’t take for granted your education. Rejoice in what you learn, and spread it.

7. Define yourself by what you love.

I see it all the time online, people whose idea of being part of a subculture is to hate Coldplay or football or feminists or the Liberal Party. Try to also express your passion for things you love.

8. Respect People With Less Power Than You.

“I have, in the past, made important decisions about people I work with — agents and producers — based largely on how they treat wait staff in restaurants. I don’t care if you’re the most powerful cat in the room, I will judge you on how you treat the least powerful. So there.” — Tim Minchin.

9. Don’t Rush.

You don’t need to already know what you’re going to do with the rest of your life. Most people who were sure of their career path at 20 are having midlife crises now.

You will soon be dead. Life will sometimes seem long and tough and, god, it’s tiring. And you will sometimes be happy and sometimes sad. And then you’ll be old. And then you’ll be dead.

There is only one sensible thing to do with this empty existence, and that is: fill it. Not fillet. Fill. It.

So these are my outtakes from Tim’s speech. Lessons from a man who has appeared on QI and Californication, as gets paid to get on stage and sing songs that make people laugh. People like my parents would look down the career choice Tim has made, but I admire it. He’s made a success of a difficult industry and is self-reflective enough to realize both the chances he had in life growing up and what his success is now.

Life lesson chapter 2: #4

... and tipps the huge trap into the sea with its buoy following behind so they could find it later.

The first mate described how they used to find these traps filled with 20 or more King crab. In the late 70's when this took place they could only count on 4 or 5. I don't know if King crab is all fished out now or if the regulations have helped them make a comeback.

In the description I called this a trip on the "ship of fools". At least at the beginning, it couldn't have been a worse conglomeration of people: NOAA scientists who were convinced the fishermen were stubborn, greedy and self-centered, the crew who were convinced the scientists were arrogant and vindictively trying to drive them out of their way of life. And us students who were suspicious of both points of view. For a while everybody griped to us because we didn't seem to have any axe to grind.

Soon we would be picking up the Inuit whaling captains and with them a whole new set of tensions, because purpose of this census was to determine how many bowheads the Inuit could take that year. It was decided that even though Bowheads were the most endangered of all whales, the Inuit tribal traditions were deeply intertwined with the hunt and so a compromise was reached... 7-12 whales hunted in small boats with harpoons and guns, not exactly the traditional way but not the "modern way" either.

From the sounds of the crews grumblings they didn't think much of the 'skimos and I felt an ugly racist undercurrent.

When we left Dutch harbor the morale was at an all time low, no one was talking or looking at anyone and on top of that we spent day "crashing" our way towards the first of the pribolof islands, St. George.

Or Part 2 startshere

So I stopped myself mid thought the other day because I caught myself thinking "I just need to get through this" I thought to myself - life will always present some type of challenge and I am going to be waiting my life away.

I do really hope that at some point it will be easier to breathe but in the meantime "let it be"

I need to learn a life lesson from this song!

Oh but hey - since it is a snow day and I worked from home - I was able to sneak a picture in.

Let it Be - The Beatles

When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me,

speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,

speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.

Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree,

there will be an answer, let it be.

For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see,

there will be an answer. let it be.

Let it be, let it be, .....

And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me,

shine until tomorrow, let it be.

I wake up to the sound of music, mother Mary comes to me,

speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, .....

Lost my way for a short time because the path looked like it had ended, when in fact it just went around the corner. Should have looked up because the trees made an X to mark the spot. I think there is a life lesson in here somewhere. My take is in which wooden tree will I put my trust ?

____________ _____________

I try to attend PRIDE events in support of a friend I owe a lot to.

Way back when, a buddy named Sam Evans befriended me, in spite of my red neck and ignorance. We lost him to AIDS back in 1988 - but I will never forget his friendship and the life lessons he taught me.

"It is not enough to live; you have to have something to live for."

- Commander Adama, Battlestar Galactica (television program) (2003)

Life is not reflected well in science fiction television programs. Yet they often show excellent examples of human aspirations, foibles and life lessons.

In this case, the life lesson is about having something worth living for. But, what?

Many people fail to find what they want out of life. They die still wondering what they could have done to find it.

The problem is that they had been looking for something that would come to them, something that would enhance their lives, something they could acquire that would make their life complete. That never satisfies the desire to find what life is worth lviing for because we humans can never find enough to satiate our desires. We are, by nature, greedy.

By deduction, what makes life worth living must be outside of us. What makes life worth living is not what we can get, but what we can give.

Being greedy, many people never learn that lesson. The laws of economics say that you can't get more by giving away what you have.

But the laws of economics suck. They have destroyed more lives than wars have. According to economics, the only things worth having are what comes in to us, what we can acquire. Because of our greedy natures, if we style our lives around what comes in to us, we will never be satisfied and feel that our lives have been worth living.

Those people who give the most of themselves to help others know what fulfillment is.That's not just feeding the hungry, healing the sick, giving money to the poor or sending blankets to Kosovo. It's helping anyone who needs help with anything.

People are often free about telling others their problems, whether the others want to hear them or not. Sometimes we can offer to help them. Anyone standing by a vehicle at the side of the road needs help, or at least some company, maybe a sandwich or coffee.

Sometimes helping someone else means nothing more than helping them to cry, to grieve, to let out the emotion that is eating them from the inside. Sometimes all we have to do is to listen.

If you want to know what makes life worth living, help someone. Do it more than once because the first time you may not recognize within you the feeling of having done something good and right. The more often you do it, the more it will seem the natural thing to do.

The laws of economics may be natural, but so are tsunamis and earthquakes. If it really matters to you to understand what makes life wonderful, give of yourself to help others.

Until and unless you have tried it, you won't understand. I don't understand economics, tsunamis or earthquakes. You can teach me once you have learned the lesson I have to teach.

INDIA' Where else?

One year after the success of our first video in Shanghai ( vimeo.com/33024534 ) Pierre Lelievre and myself "Anthony Finocchiaro" decided to find adventure around in a much more exotic place.. INDIA !

We landed in Delhi but with the clear intention to visit the country as much as we could.

For ten days in India, we had the intention to find a way of transport to escape from the big city and mix with the local population, the real one !!! We planned to take a great life lesson and also share our love of the inline skating, roll on virgin spots and learn skating to the young generation.

Two days in Delhi was almost enough for us to skate most of the city ... Cosmopolitan population shortly shared the info that two crazy Frenchies were inline skating through the streets jumping all the obstacles and catch the tuktuks. It was fun to hear people saying to use "Nice shoes " speaking about our skates, but every time was a challenge for us to explain what is " inline " and what we do here, as we had many questions from curious people.

After some research we decided to rent a motorcycle and go to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, it was a 200 km road trip between the two cities, which is not really not much in Europe ... But here 200km bike that can quickly turn into a 6/7 hours drive, which was ideal for us to make a few more stops through different cities. So we took the time to stop in beautiful spots where we shared moments with Elephants , snake charmers or cricket players.

We arrived late in Agra but we we still headed straight to the Taj Mahal where our first meeting has been with a tribe of stealing monkeys who tried to ride our bike and wear our helmets… After fighting this crazy monkeys we fully enjoyed a beautiful sunset under the walls of Taj in the company of military guards who were amused to see two tourists a bit like no other, and laughed to hear us saying that we came straight from Delhi with our destroyed motorcycle ... haha.

We spent a total of two days in this beautiful city, made incredible encounters and especially memorable sessions but also left a few pieces of our famous motorcycle after a spectacular crash. We managed to land safely but the bike lost its first and second gear ... so you can imagine what it may look like to start from Zero with the third gear…

Back to Delhi we lost our third gear so it was really hard to continue to tour with this lethal weapon in the middle of the jungle road, so we decided to give back this broken shit and continue to end this journey by skitching cars, tuktuk or even camels, but always making extraordinary meetings with inlines on our feet!

For this trip we used both the SEBA FR1 Orange & Blue customized way FR-A by adding the soulplate, and the new SEBA Street Invaders wheels which really passed the test on this very difficult grounds.

For amateur or Pro skater, this skate skate was more than ideal for this safari trip. THANKS SEBA Skates and thanks everyone who made this trip so special, I hope to feed back and show these pictures to as much people as possible!

Also thank you Pierre for being always on top, this is just the beginning of our adventure ..

WE DID IT! WE WON! I got a t-shirt!

You might be wondering why there's no picture of a clean plate - funny story, remember that bit about exploiting every loophole?

Well, I was in the men's room weighing my options - (no, I didn't purge, I've got a 14-year non-vomiting streak, which I'm not going to ruin for a damn sandwich...)

I was debating whether I could hide bits of bread in my napkin, when I realized I could take advantage of the shift change among the wait-staff. If I left the table at JUST the right time, the new waiter or waitress would see a plate with just a few bites of corned beef on it, and perhaps assume that I was done with my meal - and not realize that a certified challenge was taking place....

Look, it was my first eating challenge ever - I took advantage of my surroundings, and I'm sure that if I stayed there until breakfast time, I eventually would have been hungry again, but it's just not safe to eat meat that's been left out overnight, right? So let's just grab the t-shirt and head for the door...while I can still walk upright.

Life lesson #347: The better your bum looks in them the less practical they are likely to be.

It's All Healthy: "Paint Me Yellow and Call Me a Taxi" was not available, so I had to substitute by purchasing, "Butter My Butt and Call Me a Bisquit", a book of humorous quotes from the south.

Taking time regularly to laugh is one way I improve my health. In a world of things I can't control, my attitude is one healthy thing that I can control.

Since it is "Take Time for Health Tuesday," I took a few minutes to think what would be most healthful today. Books on healthy nutrition, exercise and cooking are all on my shelves. But a few moments to laugh outloud is just like a breath of fresh air too.

So when a pick-me-up is needed, the humor section can be almost as beneficial as exercise.

After I picked up "Butter My Butt . . . ", I found myself laughing outloud every chance I got to thumb through this very funny book.

The authors say it's a good book for some down-home truths and insights to lighten the mood in today's fast paced world becauase, "Lately, folks are feeling as jumpy as a cochroach in a frying pan."

But, "Worryin' only gives small things big shadows."

Could not have made the point better myself! ;->

Happy "Take Time for Health Tuesday" everyone.

Just pawn in Game of Life.
