Thanks to Brooke for being a prop for this photo, just a random guy who I asked to breathe some more "life" into this scene...

This was only a 5 minute pose but after several in which I'd taken the whole time on a single sketch I felt like doing several quicker sketches of the same pose. I switched from charcoal to conté so I could work multiple sketches on the same page and keep them distinct.
For this pose, Meg (the model) was facing directly away from where I was sitting initially, so I decided to do my first sketch from that position.
I abandoned my first attempt as I had started too close the middle of the paper and wanted to work left to right. Rather than rub it out, I switched to a fresh sheet of paper. I probably spent about 2 minutes on the first sketch here, a minute on the second one and only around 15 seconds on the last one.
Relay For Life (often shortened to Relay) is the main volunteer-driven cancer fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. Originating in the United States, the Relay For Life event has spread to 21 countries.[1] Relay events are held in local communities, campus universities, military bases, and in cyberspace. Although the main objective of Relay is to raise money for cancer research and cancer patients, the event is held to spread cancer awareness, celebrate the lives of survivors, remember those who lost their lives to cancer, and unite a community in the fight against cancer. It is estimated that Relay For Life events have raised over $3 billion to date. (wikipedia.org)
Each time you completed a round around the track, you get a bead. I only got 11 beads because I had to leave early. Great event for a good cause.

My cat, Stinky, lies down next to a cat statue in the rock garden and my desert tortoise, Detour, walks past a tortoise statue. (Sept. 24, 2013)
