Jay and I were in Bahrain for two and a half years while I was teaching at the Bahraini Air Force. I arrived in January of 1989 and we ventured onward to Dubai in the middle of 1991. We lived in several locations during our time on the island.
The abandoned Coast Guard facility that would house rescue equipment, sits next to the abandoned rail leads to the Elberta, MI carferry ramp. Lake Michigan carferrys were once a thriving and interesting part of railroading. This dock was for the Ann Arbor Railroad. Last used in 1982,the dock is shown here in 1989.The main part of this building was built in 1887. Amazingly, the building was saved, the land around here was turned into a park, and this building is now used for wedding receptions.
The old and new lifeboats on manouvres in Whitby, I can just imagine how many lifes these boats have saved between them, and how rough the seas must be when they go out.

Images of SOCO #19
Parts of South Congress get quite crowded with street life. I was also testing the high ISO capability of the 7D. The image is a bit grainy but its was taken at ISO 5000.
All of the images in this series have been taken in SOCO (South Congress area of Austin) on a single Flickrwalk from over 2 weeks ago.
Not a political statement, but a personal one. I find myself a minority in all of my online communities. So I thought I'd just help define myself further. Take it or leave it.
Plus, I just think this is cool.
(I need to work on my photoshopping...I'm having trouble with layers using my Elements so I have to resort to cut and paste.)
The life spark in my eyes is in no way different than the life spark in the eyes of any other sentient being. ~Michael Stepaniak,
“Life Underground” is a permanent public artwork created in 2001 by American sculptor Tom Otterness for the 14th Street - Eighth Avenue station of the NYC Subway. The installation is a series of whimsical miniature bronze sculptures depicting cartoon like characters showing people and animals in various situations, and additional abstract sculptures, which are dispersed throughout the station platforms and passageways. The sculptor said the subject of the work is "the impossibility of understanding life in New York” and describes the arrangement of the individual pieces as being “scattered in little surprises”
This image of Mari Athena I love. It has been an image that has been bouncing around in my head for a long time. I wanted to bring to life a lost and vulnerable soul that has been made safe by the light. I wanted the cinematic approach, I feel it conveys the feeling more

Life goes on thinking that pollution can't harm us. It's beyond from us. How strange we are leading our life everyday through too much risky environment in Bangladesh!

Just to say hello all of you and wish you great short week ahead. I am still going through major workflow reorganisation project:-) so probably would not be around much for the next day or two.
In meantime i won the little group competition here. Which makes me really proud considering wonderful other photos and photogs participating. Thank you Martin for organising such interesting theme!
There was a discussion in class, and everyone had their explanation to life. Some were also convinced that theirs was the correct answer. This was my response...

I just got this movie, and I can't wait to see it. It's about a man who lists everything he does and plans it out, just like I do, and not every action can fit on his list that does occur! I'm watching it tonight :) Maybe this card will inspire others and myself.
self-portrait again.

Predator, prey and nature's built in alarm system the Blue Jay. My wife and I watched as the chipmunk was snatched in a split second while crossing the trail ahead of us and the blue jay was aggressively diving on the intruder! Screaming the alarm the whole time!
Only in this shot did I happen to catch all three in a single image. Nature's life cycles captured from a distance. The Hawk held still with a strong watchful eye on his food held in his talons and the Blue Jay as he dove past in the background.
I hope you enjoy this split second moment shot and I sure appreciate your support my friends!
God bless out there…
Deep into winter here in Australia, the lemon tree at work is reminding me of warmer days with its glorious, yellow fruit. Cut and used for my lunch, the discarded lemons fell serendipitously into a beautiful, abstract form. Shame I only had an iPhone with me... Same pic as I posted earlier, but edited in LR rather than on my phone.
