Figuary 2019, the first but hopefully not last year of the daily life drawing challenge set by the Croquis Café and LoveLifeDrawing YouTube channels, is now over.
I very much enjoyed watching the daily instructional videos from LoveLifeDrawing and trying to put the lessons into practice with the daily pose videos from Croquis Café. My results were quite variable from day to day, but I think there was a definite improvement in my drawing skills over the course of the month.
Now that Figuary is over, I may not do life drawing every day, but I certainly intend to keep up my daily drawing habit.
This photo is of the lettering I put on the front of my Figuary sketchbook. There are still a fair number of blank pages left in this book, but not enough for next year's Figuary (if it happens). I'll probably use the rest of the book to continue drawing the regular weekly Croquis Café figure drawing reference videos once I run out my current sketchbook for that purpose. That should happen in about a month's time.
I found this nifty book from 1951 about lettering, fonts and typography for just $1. I think it's really cool, but I'm dorky like that.
I usually update on wednesdays but since tomorrow is Christmas Eve I figured it's reason enough to change the posting day just this once. This scan is slightly icon-like BrainStorm from yet another forgotten meeting. It might even be a symbol for everyone's hard thinking process for getting presents this time of year, if you choose to view it that way. Original size was about 3,5 x 3,5 cm so this has been magnified quite a bit. Made with same old ball-point and gel pens, though they look a bit painterly with the enlargement.

Just finished gilding the title wall for this exhibit of ONE painting....gilded lettering is one of my favorite things to do....beautiful real gold leaf, 23 karat.
