The building of the University Library Leuven is a Neo-Renaissance design from the American architects Whitney Warren and Charles D. Wetmore. It was built overlooking the Mgr. Ladeuzeplein between 1921 and 1928.
The names of the American Colleges and Universities, whose donations helped rebuilding the old library that had been destroyed in 1914, are carved in different styles of lettering in the sand stone bricks of the building.
“The Loveliness of Lettering” is a Valentines themed exhibition by local creatives and designers working in and around Tooting.
Held in the Sprout Community Art Gallery in Furzedown, we’ll be showcasing unique products and crafts that include beautiful limited edition screenprints from Helen Lang, buttons and beaded jewellery, fragrant candles and pottery as well as fabulous fabric and textile creations from Fabric Nation.

Don't worry, its not a suit and tie kind of gallery.. more of a pyjamas and cuppa tea kinda place where workshops will be happening after school on Weds, Thurs and Friday and kids are welcome to take part in pottery fun and fabric craft activities !
Desmond the border terrier will also be in attendance handing out romance and dating advice as well as participating in after school creative workshops. Come and say hello ... (or woof!)

One of a number of adverts from the c.1929 "Official Handbook" to the County Borough of Dudley in Worcestershire produced on behalf of the Corporation by the publisher E. j. Burrow & Co. Ltd. The adverts show the then relatively prosperous industrial and manufacturing town that was still, in many ways, closely allied to the traditional Black Country industries based on the centuries old coal, iron and steel enterprises.
The Earl of Dudley's works at Round Oak near Brierley Hill, in Staffordshire, had been established as an iron works in 1857 but, with a view to a shift to steel manufacturing, the company was reformed in 1891 as a publci company but it struggled financially and in 1897 it was reformed again under the Dudley family control as the The Earl of Dudley's Round Oak Works Ltd. In post-war years after Nationalisation it returned to private ownership under Tube Investments before, like the rest of the industry, returning to government ownership in 1967. Finally British Steel closed the plant in 1982. The site now forms part of the Merry Hill shopping centre.
