I found a tutorial on creating athletic lettering at The Design Playbook . I created an example of my alma mater Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA.
On May 1, 1978 I set foot on American soil for the first time. This was the first photo I took, on the West Side Terminal of LAX.

These are ideas for a logo based around musical symbols. A challenge was to incorporate the treble clef into the lettering in a legible way, resulting in the backwards version of the symbol for use as the letter 's'.

My old Irish granny in Kilburn had a mangle. I think it was a good way to press an unwanted random crease into the material.

from M Parker's library: "look at the rich blacks!" esteemed as the most gorgeously printed book ever (poorly photographed here), from post war Germany. Zapf did all lettering. i've forgotten the punch cutter's name. bad form.
