The camp I help teach with LEGO Master Mel Brown is more than about putting bricks together. We’re here to serve underprivileged children who don’t have access to a ton of bricks. With just 1 or 2 small boxes of bricks we’ve been able to demonstrate endless possibilities. We teach them how different parts have different functions, but we go further to teach life skills, like getting organized, thinking outside the box, perseverance, and other tips along the way.
The topic for this week’s lesson was landscaping. The kids learned about symmetry vs asymmetry, geometric vs organic shapes, foreground and background, composition, and some fundamental LEGO layering and shaping. The kids did sooo great to keep up with an abundance of information and building in a 1 hr timeframe! Lots of smiles and thumbs up. Really makes my week.
My lessons involved about thirty seconds of instruction on land, then a few minutes of shouted instruction from shore while I flailed around on the board. But I managed. I guess if you're ten years old you get more attention.
Strange title for the photo. But I realized *after* the fact that the DOF was too narrow. When I went out later to take another photo with the lens stopped down, the mushroom had been smooshed.
148/365 Taken the wee hours of this morning - (Wednesday, 11/18/09) Trying to do the best I can to at least keep up with my current photos, & get to posting my older 365 entries when I have a chance to sort them out & edit them. 坐下後不久,坐在他後面的一位先生告訴這小男孩!"I saw what you did out there. You've done a great thing!"(我印象中) 並跟他握手, 在這一對父子要下車時,父親特別跑過去謝謝這位先生,感謝他教導他兒子一個Good lesson!

Don't press in the pins until after you machine your hex flats or you'll need to machine the bulges off to fit in a 5C collet. It's not particularly well finished, but it works.

"I learned to knit when I was 18 years old when a friend's mother offered to teach me. I chose a K1, P1 ribbed sweater, knit in black. After a 5-minute lesson I was on my own (my friend lived 400 miles away). Since I kept forgetting to bring the yarn back and forward into proper position for each stitch, that sweater was abandoned, never to surface again. Later, I bought a how-to book and the rest is history.
"I now teach knitting - and no, my students do not start with black yarn, or K1, P1 ribbing! I am certified by the Craft Yarn Council of America for knitting and crochet. Holding designated subjects credentials with the state of California, I teach at a local adult school and a yarn shop. I have taught for the Crochet Guild of America, and for other guilds. I have a line of knitting and crochet patterns, and I conduct an annual Knitting Camp in my area.
"At my camp in 1998, the featured project was a pillow cover of twisted stitches, in which panels are worked one at a time and joined as they are knitted. This design was based on an article in Knitter's issue 16. I revisit this project in my square and I hope you enjoy it.
