I was giving someone basic photography lessons, and at one point I was talking about how I never ask children to smile for pictures. If they smile, cool, but if they aren't smiling, the picture can still be beautiful. Then we glanced over to see our kids interacting, having a sweet moment together in the pretty light from the window.

A little horse play...

A workshop was organized at IDB Auditorium, Dhaka on 26 September on the eve of closing of the pilot phase of BELFORA Project. The project was jointly implemented by BNNRC and Radio Pollikontha (run by BRAC) under financial and technical assistance of the American Center, Embassy of the United States of America, Dhaka. Two experts from Nepal English Language Teachers Association [NELTA] joined and shared the lessons learned from implementing similar project in their country. The Participants of the lessons learned workshop unanimously agreed on the success of Basic English Language for Outreach Radio Audience Program. They remarked that this English was helpful to create access to education and job opportunities for them and this type of program by using community radio should continue and replicate in other areas of the country.

"Okay, you stay over in the brown grass and I'll stand here in the snow..."

On an decommissioned army depot near us, there's a herd of white white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus). They're not albino, but rather an uncommon mutation that makes them white. The county wants to develop the land, but a group of local citizens (Seneca White Deer, Inc.) has started a campaign to save the deer and turn the area into a conservation park. There are also some normal colored deer, and you can see one of each in this photo.

The Depot is closed to the public, but it's not unusual to see the white deer through the chain-link fence. We pulled over and shot a few photos through the fence Saturday on our way to a party in Trumansburg.

Lesson learned: When going to bed, turn the stove burner under the stock to "off," not "high"., in order to avoid Tragic Household Accidents.

I'm lucky I didn't burn the damned house down. As it was, it took a week to clean the kitchen walls, ceiling, floor and contents of a fine film of stinky incinerated duck fat.

Susan Brown, OEF forward lead for PEO CS&CSS, advises anyone getting ready to deploy to “establish good working relationships, because in this environment we really need to help each other.” Here, Brown and Jimmy Cooper of Red River Army Depot, TX, check a Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck for underbody blast protection armor. Lesson #2..... You are never too small to have fun.... sometimes you just need to improvise!! :-)

the first session I have done with my little Grace since she 'accidently" chopped off her hair..yes..you heard right! lol She got a round brush tangled in the side and her independant 6 yr old problem solving was to simply "cut it out" and no one would be the wiser! eek! soooo....pixie cut it was..there were tears..mostly mine, but we both have learned a very valuable lesson...to look beyond the outside and to the inside, she is beautiful no matter what...and meanwhile..it grows...

Freya asked me for a guitar lesson tonight after watching a bit of Glastonbury on the BBC iPlayer. Then Hamish asked too! You could've knocked me down with a feather! Freya's got Em and A down pretty well after only one lesson!

Note to self: NO DANCING ON CONCRETE IN BARE FEET. This is the result of my dancing around to "Ice Ice Baby" and "Can't Touch This" and becoming the legend of the crawfish boil (when 200+ people all are fixated on your dancing you can't let them down!). I'm hobbling around for the next few days; it looks worse than it feels (but I did have to peel away some of the dead skin so now there's big red expanses of skin that I've got bandaged up.
