Ok... I just love the fragrance of freshly sharpened pencils, and especially the Dixon Ticonderoga www.dixonticonderoga.com (ahhh... cedar wood...!!!), and so keep the shavings in a small dish in my study as a sort of "pot pourri"...
Yes, I am indeed easily and simply pleased... Lol :-)
(*This is a shaving from a brand new blunt pencil - fresh out of the box - hence the gradual widening as it spirals around**)

I found these sweet little purple shells once on my local beach, and collected all of them. But they smelt bad so I left them in the garden for ages and rediscovered them, smell free, about a year later. I've always looked for more, but have never seen them again!
This is one of the bigger ones - it measures 1.2cm wide x 0.9cm high. And the total photo is 2.4cm wide, or 'Less Than An Inch' as per the Macro Mondays theme this week (26-Feb-2018).
[Taken with my Helios 44M lens, at f/16 using extension tubes]
Another couple of shots of these purple shells
This weeks Macro Mondays theme is Less Than An Inch.
This is a 12 volt automotive type bulb with dual elements. I believe it is a bulb to be used as a running light and turn indicator. I do know that one element requires a great deal more voltage to glow than the other.
The bulb is 3/4 of an inch wide, so I still had room to spare.
Best viewed large.

Oil & Water 3 - #MacroMonday - #LessThanAnInch
Captured in: Smithtown, NY
Pictured here is a simple oil and water macro / abstract that employed a bit of color and light added from below. This is the third in a series of images with this same theme.

For Macro Mondays "less than an inch"
California man-root (Marah fabacea) is a wildflower endemic to California. It is known colloquially as "wild cucumber" although the fruit is bitter. It's clusters of tiny, off-white flowers are said to be a nectar source for the green hairstreak butterfly. The leaves are surprisingly large when mature, and the root is huge, making the plant hard to kill.

Salt crystals on a teaspoon. Taken by reversing my lens - cool technique, thanks to those who suggested it!
Macro Mondays Redux 2018 February 26, Less than an inch recreated only in light. The original was a red gem stone.
I had considered this shot for Macro Mondays' theme "Less Than an Inch". In the end I chose another shot, one which was just the screw. I have posted this one to show the size (the ring is about 2 cm across).
A Macro Mondays submission on the topic "Less than an inch". This jumping spider was certainly less than an inch. If you look closely, yo can see the photographer reflected in its eyes.
The Macro Monday theme for 2/26/18 is "Less than an inch." Check out the image of the rivet in the first comment to get an idea of the actual size.
About 40 years ago, the Golden gate Bridge was being earthquake retrofitted, in hopes of keeping it standing when the next "Big One" hits, and thousands of these rivets were knocked out in the process. Most landed in San Francisco Bay, but not all. I used to fish for striped bass off the rocks at Lime Point, almost directly under the north end of the bridge (since 9/11, we're not allowed down there any more for security reasons), and I collected quite a few of these rivets. Other folks found ways of selling them to tourists, but I hung on to the 20 or so that I collected.
Each strand of the "lamp" is approx a quarter of a millimeter.

After a couple of experiments for this weeks Macro Monday challenge of "Less Than an Inch", I settled on this marble, which measures 1/2". It's sitting on a bed of E-Soil.
E Soil starts out as very tiny little beads and you then soak it in water for 6 hours. You can then apparently stick plant cuttings in it and they will grow, you just need to ensure the E Soil is kept hydrated. These are unhydrated beads.
Set-up: The E-soil was in a small dish on the kitchen draining board in natural light. Used Canon 70D on tripod with 100mm macro lens and 35mm extension tube.
