On my way home from work I couldn't resist making a detour to my favourite lighthouse. The light was looking so soft and inviting & for once the sea was like a millpond. I had all of 5 minutes to find and take this image before the lovely colours of dusk were gone for another day.

[Gong and Gong-er]

Canon Ultrasonic lenses. Trusted by professionals. And Fatty Gong.

An afternoon of photography in the lake district was coming to an end, I was running late and needed to get home. Driving past Bassenthwaite, it caught my eye. It was still. I have never been to the lakes when it has been perfectly still. I couldn't pass up this opportunity. In seconds the light would be gone and who knows when the breeze would pick back up again as it had been all day. I pulled my car in to the nearest bit of road wide enough to park, grabbed my camera and scrambled down to the water's edge. I managed just a couple of exposures before the sun was lost behind Whinlatter to the west.

Sundown at Tempelhofer Feld.

Taken with a Funleader Cap Lens 18mm f/8.0.

Double mirror. Taken with a Funleader Cap Lens 18mm f/8.0.

Not a real space photo. Light art. An attempt at a general recreation of M51 and NGC 5195. Created for the Deep Space Imagineers group Challenge #4. This started off as a test. Lots of room for improvement.

Single exposure. Ingredients: One textured plate glass, one clear plate glass, half of an old CD case, 10W40 oil, used oil, Dawn dishwashing liquid, one flashlight, one ThinkGeek "Color Shine Flashlight", one iPod Touch, blue and yellow LEDs, one spray bottle, water, cross-screen diffraction filter. Lots of lenscap off, lenscap on.

While traveling through the airport I discovered another person with a camera. I mentioned to her that she will never get any shots if she kept the lenscap on. She mentioned she uses her camera for videos mostly, but agreed to strike a quick pose. A moment later we both went our separate directions.

I was lucky enough to stumble upon this amazing beach when on holiday in Morocco. These arches of fire red granite are stunning and quite intimidating when coupled with the ferocious tide. The thought of becoming cut off was not a pleasant one. I would have loved to spend more time here. Perhaps one day I will return.

The best 2 out of 28. See a Gif of all 28 in the comments. Taken from the top of Malveira.

Photo taken with a Pentax KP Albinar ADG 2.8 MACRO focus 28mm

A day of torrential rain & vicious winds. It was so bad that we could not get out of the car through fear of water logging equipment & clothing. I would not be deterred by this, the miserable grey weather added a moody atmosphere & really lifted the blues in the ice bergs. This was taken mounted on a tripod which was wedged in in the back of my tiny car.

GEARTALK: GOING TO INDONESIA - WHAT'S IN MY BAG.

I’ll be going to Indonesia in a couple of weeks, so it’s time for another “What’s in my bag” post.

Most of the stuff shown here is actually also part of my Every Day Carry pack (EDC). Let’s start from top left going left to right:

- Lowepro Card case with five SanDisk Extreme SDHC 16GB 45mb/s cards and a couple of “old” SanDisk Ultra 4GB cards

- Muji leather card case with my ID and a couple of cards that do not necessarily need to be inside my wallet

- Moleskin Reporterstyle Notebook

- couple of pens including a permanent marker for stickers and stuff

- small Muji netcase with extra batteries, lensshade and lenscap for my Fuji XE-1

- little small survival pack (in a sticky situation I probably would not have any idea how to use it though)

- eBay Noname flashlight (cheap but great LED flaashlight. Saving up for a Surefire or Fenix)

- Miltec Assault Pack (great value military style pack. Going to exchange it for a TAD Fast Litespeed pack in the future)

- a couple of business cards

- Jimi Wallet. Perfect slim frontpocket wallet. Protects my cards from getting bend and keeps everything organized.

- Leatherman Style CS Multitool. Nothing for the woods but in an urban environment the bottle opener, scissors and knife are essential.

- Keys

- OCZ ATV USB-Stick 4GB: This one is a great almost indestructible USB Stick. Not only does it write and read fast, but also you can actually wash it with your clothes or boil it in hot water if you like.

- Fuji XE-1 with 35mm. Check out the review at www.ISMONO.com/Blog

- iPhone wall charger

- Eneloop mobile booster. A small battery with two USB ports to fully charge an iPhone twice

- iPhone 5 cable

- headphone cable extension

- USB cable

- Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 adapter

- Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 adapter

- small screwdrivers

- Headphone splitter

- Flight headphone adapter. I hate using the inflight headphones.

- Kindle. Check out the review at www.ISMONO.com/Blog

- iPad 2 32GB. When I am working I’ll take my Macbook Pro instead. But for this trip I want to travel as light as possible.

- iPhone 5 32GB

- iPod Nano 16GB

- Urban Ears Platan headphones

Some things not on this photo:

- Nikon D7000 with 18-70mm and 35mm

- Rode VideoMic

- iPad Camera Connection Kit

- Lacie rugged Harddrive

So equipment wise that’s almost about it. This is what I will bring on my three week trip to Indonesia. I’ll probably wont use the Nikon that much. I’m on vacation and I just don’t want to bother with carrying too much of equipment.

So what’s in your bag? Especially for personal projects on vacation.

------ UPDATE ------

I got a new update of my EDC Backpack.

I also made a video if you're interested

www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxF5c3Zxc58

Shadows on the Southbank, London, Britain - June 2007

This is with a pinhole Leica body cap I got on eBay for $11. The size is 0.2mm which supposedly equates to 28mm and f/150. Still getting used to it.

Ultramax 400, exposed for 22 seconds I remember it as being exposed for 22 seconds, but there's no way those two guys stayed still for that long. Probably 1/4 or 1/8 - I'm still getting used to calculating pinhole shutter times.

Balanced on the planter

This image was taken only because we had to pull the car over for a bit of respite from the ferocious cross winds & to take a toilet break. I battled with all my strength to open the door in the 70mph winds, turned around to relieve myself only to be greeted with this view. Unbelievable. Fly zipped, camera out, gloves on. I used our car to shelter the camera from the wind & took one exposure before battling up the bank & back into the car.

I have two rolls of film to develop still :D

Fuji Superia 400

The Strokkur Geysir at Thingvellir National Park. This is very active & goes off every 5 – 10 minutes. This is an image I have had in mind for some time. I was very lucky to get such a clean image with no people in the background. This is down to the weather. If you were to stand downwind you would be sure of a soaking, you would also have to slide your way over a very slippery frozen path. It took me 4 attempts to get this shot but I was not complaining as I could have watched this badboy all day.

Lens cap and the Pen E-P5.

Apart from a quick repositioning of the lens cap... this was a lucky grab-shot! A burst of sunshine penetrated a chink in the curtains... illuminating my old Pentax 35mm film camera.

From the Pentax Forums -

Manufactured from 1975 to 1977. The Pentax KX was one of the three original K-mount cameras introduced by Pentax as a replacement for the Spotmatic family of screw mount cameras.

The KX model was one step up from the KM with a more sensitive light meter, a wider ISO range, and mirror lock-up. It had a match-needle exposure readout so that the shutter speed set was indicated in the viewfinder. The aperture set on the lens was visible in the viewfinder through a small window.

The KX is the only Pentax where the wind lever must be pulled slightly out for the meter to work. This makes the camera unsuitable for left-eyed users. Fortunately Pentax didn't repeat this poor design on their later cameras.

Helen... this is my submission to the "PHOTOGRAPHY" photo challenge.

A stunning Christmas morning in the lakes offering fresh snow and crisp, winter sunshine. This is an image of Scales Tarn with Sharp Edge in the background. 5 verticals stitched together with a Heliopan Polarizer turning the tarn in to a deep, inky black. The idea is to make the whole place a little sinister.

The walk is a pleasant hour or so from the car, so perfect when lugging all that camera gear. You don't have to go up to the ridge, but worth it for the breath taking views. Crampons required at this time of year.
