For me, the most difficult part of wildlife photography is finding images with character and feeling. It is so easy to get caught in the trap of shooting endless animal portraits and no matter how sharp and technically perfect, if they lack soul and feeling, they become just another record shot. This is one of the best images from my recent safari, I have 20 other Zebra shots, but this one... this has character. I hope you agree, please give me feedback... good or bad.

For Macro Mondays - Things you bring when going out.
I still bring my camera with me in case the perfect shot jumps out in front of me.
Stuck inside, held prisoner by the torrential rain; a far cry from 3 weeks ago, enjoying this breathtaking view from my tent on Place Fell. Another camping trip soon I think.

Hummingbird in Costa Rica. I was very lucky to capture this, not only to get so close, but to have enough time to press my shutter.

On the morning of this photograph, I experience light like I have never seen before. It was about 20 minutes before sunrise and the entire landscape was bathed in a warm, red light reflecting off of the clouds above. It seemed to wash over the scene in a matter of a minute or 2. Myself and another photographer looked at each other from 100 yards away, both of us gobsmacked. This photograph has not been enhanced in any way, with white balance kept at daylight. This is why I love photography!!

Well, it dates from late 18th Century, really - but it's quite a quaint little packhorse bridge the other side of the River Lyon.
Taken with a Pentax 50mm f/1.7 lens using custom pinhole filter (aka hole drilled in the lenscap) for softness.
I keep running into that bird at Avila Beach. This time there was someone else taking pictures of it.
Well it's been 2 days since my return from a weekend in and around Glencoe. The conditions were perfect and I have so many images, none of which I have had time to look at properly yet although I couldn't resist uploading this image of my little Australian Labradoodle, Monty. I am currently training him to change filters, carry my tripod and sniff out my lens caps, which I always seem to lose.

Moving up some of my most popular photos to the top of the list.
Spent some time one weekend with a great photographer and fellow flickrite, Mike Jones.
Mike sure has a lot of knowledge and has given me some great instruction on how to improve my photography. A few good tips from other photographers has always helped me because I have never been very good at understanding from a book. Hands on knowledge is always my way of learning and Mike has surely helped me in the field. Thank you Mike!! www.flickr.com/photos/mikejonesphoto/

Here we see an Orb captured in the wild and preserved forever for all to look at.
An idea that sprung in to my head last night at about 1:30am had to get it done. Not in to taxidermy at all, but the concept of the picture was just right.
Digital light stencil on my iPhone of an old green orb I did years back. Took me a good few attempts to get this right, firstly was the positioning, I had to reposition the photo on my phone as it was too high in the jar, then was the focus, because the orb and the jar were at slightly different focal lengths I had to play around to get the mid exposure focus change correct.
In the end it all came together and i'm rather pleased with the result and would like to do more like this in future. Same as before Exposed for the light stencil, capped the lens, then lit the jar bounced off the ceiling with my iPhone torch.
I didn't want the photo to be studio quality or anything, It's more honest/down to earth this way so I did it in my kitchen and you can even see art on the walls in the reflection, and some other kitchen things if you look close.
Enjoy

It's a Canon EOS Kiss X4 or 550D. :P~ It came with another EFS lens 55-250mm lens. I'm really excited to use it.
I just thought of a name for it: Monkeybooger LOLOL. That was said to me by someone I dearly miss so much. It could still change :3
Anyway, don't hate me if I change to Canon. Nikon is still my first love. ;)
PS!!!
I forgot to share my experience on meeting Bruno Mars!! :D It was a short experience, like a minute or two, but I think I was lucky enough to have that once in a lifetime opportunity. So I placed second on the fan art contest, but they all gave the finalists a meet and greet pass. We all met him before his concert. I didn't expect that there will be a lot of people who;s going to meet him. I really thought it was just us. -__-; So I expect that we'll have a moment with him. LOL, but no. There were so many restrictions. We won't be allowed to let him sign anything, also usage of personal cameras (picture will be take by a official photographer) and last, no solo picture with him :( That really frustrate me a lot. I felt like all my efforts on the contest had gone to the trash. But then I realized, we're really lucky enough to have that chance because he's a big international star. So I told myself "I'm already happy if he would just look at me or know that I exist." TROLOLOLOL. :P We were the first group to go and take a picture with him. And you know what I did? I immediately run beside him =)) He said Hi then he put his arm around my shoulder for the picture taking :"""""> I'm not really sure if I'm visible on that photo cause it was crowded :)) The photo isn't up yet, so I'll just let you know. Then after that I told him "This is for you!", handed him the framed artwork. When he saw it he said "Oh wow! Wow. Thank you." while still looking at it. My face was all smiles. :DDDDD~ Then after I asked for a hug. HEH. Then he hugged me then said thanks to me and to my co-finalists who also gave their fan art. :) :) :) :)
One for the archives. A stunning event to witness, but a difficult one to photograph. Only another 11 years until the next UK eclipse.

The name Canon began in 1934 with a prototype for Japan’s first-ever 35 mm camera with a focal plane shutter. It was named 'Kwanon' by Goro Yoshida after the Buddhist bodhisattva Guan Yin.
It is ironic that the first Kwanon lenses were made by Canon's now chief rival, Nikon.

I had fun getting to down to this tree near Catbells and I always love a challenge; it makes the day feel all that more adventurous. The weather was stunning, unfortunately the light was a little poor so no sweeping landscapes from this walk.

With the briefest of breaks in the weather I decided to head out and test my Canon 24mm f1.4L MK II which I have hired for a trip next week. I am happy with this image but disappointed with the amount of de-fringing required. Although the test was short & needs looking at in more detail, my 24-70L out performs this lens.

After a recent cancellation, I suddenly found myself with a free weekend. The weather forecast looked promising and I have been dying to get out and spend some quality time with the camera. Of course it is a bank holiday and no campsites would have space, so I decided the best course of action would be to wild camp. By doing so, I could take advantage of dusk and dawn, save money, enjoy some peace and quiet and have complete freedom to shoot wherever I wanted. I have had a great weekend with some stunning images, Here's my favourite

Shot at sunrise boulevard in Dapitan, Zamboanga Del Norte, have to go to a knee-deep of mud to take this shot. This swamp also served as the grave of my lenscap. haha! ^_^
After days of being hidden under thick cloud, finally Table Mountain shows herself and just in time as this was my final day in Cape Town.
This was a tough shoot. The wind was over 40mph and capturing the gorgeous mist you see rolling off the summit was like taming a dragon; One moment there is no mist, the next you can't see 20ft and your lens is soaking wet. I used a Lee Little Stopper to give me an exposure of 10 seconds, which was perfect for capturing the motion.

Purchased from the ebay shop of Simon Forster in the UK.
You all know the problem with vintage lenses - either the front cap or the rear cap is missing, or both. While replacement front caps are often not difficult to find (if you are willing to put a modern plastic cap on a vintage brass lens), the situation is more difficult for the rear cap, because that has to be tailor-made for the bayonet mount of your lens.
So either you find an original, vintage cap somewhere or you find someone who makes them new, using a 3D printer. This is what I did when I needed rear caps for some lesnes for my Voigtländer Bessamatic.
These 3D printed read lens caps fit perfectly. Better than the original ones, I'd say.
Shot with:
Canon EOS600D
Leica Bellows R (16860)
Leica 100mm f/4 Macro Elmar-R, bellows version (11230)
If you have been lucky enough to visit the Farne Islands in June, you will know how overwhelming it can be, not only with thousands of sea birds, but with photographers to match. It can be difficult to find a shot that is just yours, so I decided the best course of action would be to look a little closer.
There were lots of Shags nesting on the island, brooding large fluffy chicks, but I wanted something more intimate. I noticed one nest which seemed to escape to frenzy of photographers. I suspected there might be chicks in the nest, but it was difficult to tell. I framed my shot and waited patiently. Finally, after about 15 minutes of crouching, there was a disturbance under the wing as the chick reared its head for a split second, I frantically fired a burst of images and was lucky enough to get this shot.
