This shot was taken deep in the vervain, where a shaft of sunlight illuminated the butterfly.

Flash A camera rightslightly elevated above subject, positioned to illuminate interior of left container, modified with MagMod MagGrid. Flash B positioned overhead, modified with 32 inch white umbrella, Flash C positioned behind velum scrim to illuminate background.

The eastern milk snake is a subspecies of king snake that is widespread in North America. They range in size from approximately 1 - 6 ft and are non-venomous nocturnal hunters that are active from mid-spring to early autumn, They are typically non-confrontational, but are known to bite. This one was found sunning itself this morning on our driveway and was kine enough to pose for a few shots before slithering into the grass under a pine tree.

This is an interesting species that tends to grow high-up on elm, beech and maple trees. It is known to cause white rot of affected areas.

This is only my third sighting of this species, and my first when I had a camera. Quite a surprise.

Flower approximately 20 mm across.
On occasion, time is cut short by an accident, as was the case for this little pink tulip. It was broken from its stem and lay on the sidewalk, where it was discovered.

This bird was interesting to watch as it stayed close to the ground and was focused on several fallen logs and branches of dead hardwood trees.
Flooded area along Turner Road, Meridian Township, Michigan
One of hundreds of buttercups growing in a submerged area, and likely part of a single colony. No leaves were seen above the water surface, only the stalks supporting the blossoms.
This blossom was one of the closest to the dry ground where I could stand (about 10 ft distance). The blossom is approximately 35-40 mm across.
