Quote from David Price article in 'Experiences in Self-Determined Learning'
Seen at the British Wildlife Centre, Newchapel, Surrey. Not yet as confident as his brother, 'Jake' was finally enticed out to pose for the photographer. Having the Keeper's talk in the adjacent enclosure probably helped!
Into the distance, a ribbon of black
stretched to the point of no turning back
a flight of fancy on a wind swept field
standing alone my sense reeled
a fatal attraction holding me fast, how
can I escape this irresistable grasp?
can't keep my eyes from the circling sky
tongue-tied & twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I
ice is forming on the tips of my wings
unheeded warnings, I tought I thought of everything
no navigator to guide my way home
unladened, empty and turned to stone
a soul in tension that's learning to fly
condition grounded but determined to try
can't keep my eyes from the -circling- skies
tongue-tied & twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I
above the planet on a wing and a prayer
my grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air
across the clouds I see my shadow fly
out of the corner of my watering eye
a dream unthreatened by the morning light
gould blow this soul right through the roof of the night
there's no sensation to compare with this
suspended animation, a state of bliss
can't keep my mind from the circling sky
tongue-tied & twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I
On the jump at the right, which was the highest I've seen Alice jump (from a standing start), she was too vertical and crashed on her back when she landed. But she's jumping higher every day.
ironicly "learning to fly" by tom petty is playing on the radio.
I am not sure what type of gull this is.
I think it is a glaucous-winged gull. but it could be a thayer's gull.
North Lake Tahoe on Groundhogs Day. Teaching my son to ski, and skate. We made a shot video of our day. "Learning to Thrash!" vimeo.com/59648054
View large on black. By focusing on the dust on the lens at f2.8 I took the rest of the camera out of focus. I could shoot it again bearing this in mind but a) that's sunlight casting the shadow there and sunlight will be scarce here the coming days and b) I'm lazy.

My latest obsession has been learning to use some of my manual settings on my camera in an effort to learn to get the bokeh effect (in-focus subject, blurred background). I think I'm FINALLY getting it. Viewing the exif data for pictures on flickr has helped a lot.
This is the lava lamp I got in my stocking from my mom. I love it way more than I should but I'm a dork that way.
