Soon after sunrise, grazing light from the right reveals the edges and other details of multiple lava flows in part of Daedalia Planum, comprised of lava flows from Arsia Mons. A windstreak is visible at the top of the image, downwind from a small crater.

my layer photo that were used in the making of the Pirate Treasure complication
I placed a pile of my jewellery in front of the cabin hatch (window) to catch the sunlight, also using a small LED light on the side. outside the hatch was a boat next to us. the hatch glass is a little frosted. I focused on the boat
paper collage, acrylic paint, paper cutting and ink pigmented markers on canvas. The layers of history, I have interpreted it through my own symbolisms of the subject. Inspired by Pablo Picasso's cubism.
A closer look at the layer of red rock (standing on end) marking the main trace of the San Andreas Fault. The grey rock was formed under salt water. The San Andreas Fault extends down all the way through the earth's crust. These rocks were once buried deep in the earth and were exposed by erosion of the overlying layers after being raised by a long series of Japan-sized earthquakes.
The foreground is part of a rift valley that has dropped many miles and continues south below sea level as the Salton Sea, Imperial Valley, and Gulf of California. The other side of the rift here is a high (up to 10000 feet) steep cliff along the edge of the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountains.
Black Butte Lake was really low. There was just a thin strip of water surrounded by mud. I thought this picture contained some interesting layers with the dark blue sky at the top fading to a lighter color towards the hills, the background hills form another layer, then the closer hills form another, then there's mud, water, more mud, then finally dry beach.
Layer cake is a cake consisting of multiple layers, usually held together by frosting or another type of filling, such as jam or other preserves.

Mount Kerkeslin, the highest mountain in the Maligne Range in the Canadian Rocky Maountains.
Seen from the roundwalk around Jasper, Alberta.
I love the way that the snow is accentuating the distorted strata in the mountain.
This particular wall has (starting from the top layer:
* Cream-painted woodchip wallpaper
* Green-painted woodchip wallpaper
* A layer of white paint on top of
* A darkish green wallpaper with hand-drawn-style stripes
* Kitchen wallpaper
* Delicate multicoloured-patches wallpaper with a sort of network of white lines & blobs (50s?)
* Blue paint directly on (lime) plaster
It's taking a while to clear all this, so I'm exploring the layers at the same time. The green paint is hell - it's all horrible and plasticky and ghastly to try to remove.
