one of the most arresting things about photographing in cities is the layers of history that are fully on display in plain sight. Sometimes clumsily, and sometimes harmoniously, the residual influence of many eras are arranged side by side
The Kitsap formation was deposited in an environment much like today (very similar temperature-wise). Thus, we found a lot of peat layers (signifying organic matter).
Layers of red, green, black, white and blue in the Himalayan landscape. Near Tengboche, Khumbu region, Nepal
This is the first step of my final for my Drawing: Visual Thinking I course. The project is to use unconventional materials as the medium as well as using some unconventional things for painting. Im using coffee grounds, cumin, thyme, chili powder and mio drink mix to experiment on 10 sheets of drawing paper. All together these sheets will have 3 layers of unconventional materials as well as adding dry collage. At the end of the 3 layers, I will make a cohesive piece on drawing paper (18x24).
Before deleting the folder of unused photos from our trip to Bosnia Herzegovina I noticed this shot. The quality isn't great but I love the layers of different shades and contrasts
Last year's minor cracks have been severely enlarged by the winter storms. Separation is inevitable and this seemingly solid sedimentary layer will break apart and be ground down.
a piece of modern art in a reclamation yard..it is layers of reflective acrylic and see through coloured acrylic..funky!!
I just really liked the look of the variety of texture and shape and color in the layers of these buildings.
St John the Baptist, Layer de la Haye, Essex
The largest of the Layers, and usually referred to as simply Layer. Open. A small, pretty little church beside Abberton reservoir. Inside is homely and warm, late Victorian. Very cosy. There is an Easter Sepulchre tomb from the 1540s, exceptionally late and the liturgy it would have served can only have had months to run when it was installed.
Very friendly churchwardens inside doing the books and playing the organ, although they assured me that the church is always open every day. Unfortunately, I was so busy talking that I left my Essex Pevsner beside the visitors book, and had to go back for it the following week.
It has now become a bit of a tradition - every few years, I head to Scotland, grab a rental car, and then cut northwest. This year I flew straight in to Inverness, then wound out toward Skye before looping up towards Durness and then back down to Inverness. The route, partially made popular by the "North Coast 500" is bringing a bit more traffic to the area, but with a bit of creative exploration there are still lots of great untouched areas and quiet back roads to wander.
All shots are single exposure with no elements added/removed.

@dailyshoot #ds211 Make a photo of a flag today: national, state, or otherwise. Try to compose it in a unique way. Plus other Daily Shoot images for Assignment #ds211
This version is not really a photo, in the sense that it never actually entered a physical camera. It's something generated based on the raw screencap, with added layers and filtering of the rather low-resolution flag icon.
This might be a better alternative, at least the flags are more active. The video in the link is in fact entirely derived from the image layers here, converted to a PSD file, and rendering the layers individually via Sony Vegas Pro. Be warned: this option is only available in Sony Vegas Pro versions newer than 9.0d, a fairly recent upgrade freely available to those with registered copies of Vegas Pro 9.0.
Flags to me represent so many things about social conventions, coercion, struggle and contradiction. They are an artifact, and at the moment also, one of the things that disturbs me about many online communities. Or maybe this was just my reaction to seeing the preview of AMC's new Rubicon series?

First layer = watered down rosco paint - Burnt Umber.
Next Layer, Van Dyke Brown rosco, mixed with black, applied then wiped off with rag - and drawn across wood to match the contour lines in the wood.
Thin layers of superheated water flow over the building levels of bacteria pads around the main spring. The blue sky and clouds reflect beautifully in the mirror like waters. Opening-act di The Vamps al Fabrique di Milano il 9 novembre, Eliza and The Bear.
Eliza and the Bear are a band from London, UK formed in 2011.
Their name comes from a poem written by Eleanor Rees.
The bandmembers currently consist of James Kellegher (lead vocals, guitar), Martin Dukelow (guitar), Chris Brand (bass guitar) and Paul Kevin Jackson (drums).
Their upbeat, indie folk music pulled together the romping folk-pop of Mumford & Sons and the Lumineers, while the layered instrumentation took inspiration from the likes of Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene.
They released their song "Brother's Boat" digitally before their first single, "Upon the North," appeared in 2013. Later that year they were invited to open for Paramore on their U.K. tour, where they played a sold-out Wembley Arena. At the beginning of 2014 the outfit was tipped for success by many corners of the U.K. music press and released the single "It Gets Cold" on Capitol Records. The label released Eliza and the Bear's first EP, Light It Up, that summer, and the band's eponymous full-length debut arrived in April 2016.
They spent the rest of that year and the first half of 2017 touring nationwide to promote the effort. 2017 also saw the group part ways with Capitol before they got to work writing and recording their follow-up album. The record -- titled Group Therapy -- was lyrically focused on heartache and anxiety, which all four members were struggling with in different ways at the time. It was released by Be-Known Music and featured the single "First Aid."
