A duo of "Deathstars" lead the Gary, IN to Centralia, IL shuttle, A408, south past the former IC depot in Mattoon, IL. Aside from the yellow sills and first few freight cars (and likely a depot rehab), hard to tell if this was from 2020 or the late 1990's.

Another light snowfall with some early morning hoarfrost. Setting records for snow totals this winter . . .
Even though we are all looking towards spring, I have to stand and pause, this is still quite mystical.

Bumblebee - Shine Outfit
Can I just take a moment to tell you how sexy this outfit is, because it really is and with all the color options it was hard to decide! The awesome part is it is currently 60L so you don't have to, you can have it all!
Late summer and there were a lot of migrants in Sussex, the early star being this fabulous Wryneck which stayed at Beachy Head for 3 weeks from 18 August. I really love the detail in their plumage.
A Spotted Flycatcher also at Beachy Head on the same day was similarly cooperative. Further along the South Downs the following day I found a field full of migrants which included redstart, whinchat and wheatear , all relatively uncommon birds in Sussex.

On August 13, 1971, a very late Amtrak Super Chief/El Capitan, Train 18, (with 7 units) makes a station stop at Needles, California. Thunderstorms on the Needles District during the night caused signal problems across the desert, badly delaying the train. Trains 17 and 18 would be renumbered 3 and 4 in November 1971, and the El Capitan name would be dropped two years later. These trains normally passed through Needles in the wee hours of the morning–––Joe McMillan photo.

I probably found this beauty in the backyard just a bit too late. One of the petals was partially wilted and the color somewhat faded also! :) Oh well...
Have a lovely day, everyone...
An exquisitely patterned male Wild Indigo Duskywing Skipper butterfly stands ready to defend his territory and on alert to attract a willing dance partner.
Note: Males (among other features) have hind tibial tufts, or hair-like structures on the rear legs, as indicated.
Not particularly abundant, but becoming more common.

I'm bored of winter and not taking many photos so here's one taken last September. A lovely honey bee feeding on nemesia flowers, I hope to have both again next year.
