Usually in The Netherlands our Bright Flower goes by the Latin name 'Primula'. Once in a while you'll hear it referred to as 'Sleutelbloem', Key Flower. That name comes from the way Primula veris (Cowslip) hangs in clusters much in the way of keys on a keyring. Primulas in 'the wild' are generally colored in various shades of yellow and white. But horticulturalists have had a hay day with Primula vulgaris in developing cultivars in many bright colours. So also these in the Hortus's garden shop. And, of course, they're grown for all seasons, early and late. On any glum day, a joy to see...

I figured with this being upload number 1000 to my Flickr account, it should be a personal favourite.

This was my first shot of my first trip to Montana. I was solo and had a good old fashioned paper map and some print outs of other peoples shots from the web. After driving down from Saskatchewan and spending the night in East Glacier the next morning I awoke to a perfectly clear sky. Although this spot was just a few minutes from the motel, I wound up missing a perfectly lit eastbound by seconds. Instinctively I wanted to chase it, but that would have meant leaving this fabulous spot and who knows, maybe there would be another one right behind it.... Less than ten minutes later this grain empty popped into view and set against snow capped mountains, frosted evergreens, fall foliage and lifting morning fog I took my first and possibly favourite Montana photo.

I quite enjoy the little hub of railroad photography that has come to exist on Flickr and the daily dose of fresh photos it gives all of us. Maybe I'll start digging around for another favourite for upload 2000.

demons come out to play.....

Time to start thinking about heading back over the hills for home. I don't remember exactly where I shot this. Somewhere near Santa Cruz, California.

Bones crackled underneath your feet with each step, each noise echoed endlessly. His scrutinizing eyes narrowed as you approached, clearly unimpressed.

“What took so long? Hurry up. They are waiting you’re already la-“

“Boo! Kahahaha.. “

“-te…Get lost, cat.”

“No need to look startled, love. Most everyone’s mad here..”

Fuji X-E3 plus portrait lens. If there is sunshine in late November, and surprisingly it does happen in the UK, the sun is standing pretty low on the horizon - even at noon. For many reasons, this produces a particular kind of light that allows us to play with contre-jour or backlit photography.
