I got a late start today, but I needed to get out. I went to my favorite butterfly field which has had an explosion of wild flowers in the last two weeks with all the rain we've had. There is nothing better than being in a field awash with waist high flowers at 1:00 PM in the afternoon when the temperature is 91 degrees F and the heat index is 100 degrees F, but this is when the butterflies are the most active. It is hard but I really do love it. There were dozens of long tail skippers, dusk wing skippers, gulf fritillary, clouded sulfur and tiger swallowtail.

Hello Everyone!

In late fall I spotted 10-15 Pine Grosbeaks at a local park. This was the only male of the group. The conditions were extremely overcast.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by! I'm wishing you a wonderful day!

A week or two back I went for a late night stroll. This bridge is a small two blocks away. I do believe it was cold out that night, but I just like to get out for some night shots sometime. There is not a lot to shoot in Paris at night. Well not this Paris.

Postal strikes are causing delays in deliveries and I like a lot of people am waiting for several items that were not available locally. I hope they get here in time or I will be writing IOU's for people on Christmas day.

November ... this year more trees than ever still have their leaves ... it was a beautiful late November sun

This picture was taken late afternoon at the shore of Lake Son Kul in central Kyrgyzstan. It is an alpine lake and lies at an altitude of 3016 m, and has an area of about 270 square km. It is remote but reasonably accessible (in summer|), certainly by 4x4 vehicles but some routes also without.

While once an easy and common occurrence to document, an altered schedule has made northbound shots of L411 tough, with the train arriving in Cincinnati at or before sunrise most days. However, the crew got a late start this day, and ran daylight all the way from Worthville and back. Under a moderate mist, they cross the picturesque Bridge 40 as they near Cincinnati.

A late Summer Thistle full of spikes and pickies and seed.

I recently found this male Ruby Meadowhawk Dragonfly in a marshy area of the Leelanau State Park. According to my guidebook, these are "late-season dragonflies," appearing in late summer and the fall. I've had no luck getting shots of dragonflies around home this summer, so I was delighted to find one that would pose so nicely for me.

BLOG POST

Years later the earth recovers. I was at Yellowstone in the early 1990's right after the major fire in 1988. The landscape was surreal. I returned some 25 years later to see the recovery and the rebirth. It was a quieting moment for me to not just see the recovery, but to see how long the recovery was taking. I was barely a man on my first trip and feel like a half a lifetime has passed since then. Healing take a long time. This would was from just a fire. I struggle at times to think of what the recovery will be if we attack the air, water and earth they way our current legislators seem bent on doing.

Hope that you enjoy your Saturday.

Everywhere I look there are fields of daises which is why they are bombarding my photostream. Close your eyes if you don't like because but I do and I can't promise there won't be more! :-)

Sunset over the Bay. See previous sundown image……

Time to start thinking about heading back over the hills for home. I don't remember exactly where I shot this. Somewhere near Santa Cruz, California.

A male Scarlet Tanager. Another favorite migrator. They seemed to have arrived a bit later this spring.
