From the Vags trip, on the Holga. I had saved a few frames for when we were in Vegas (my new camera bag allows me to have my D50, my lenses, my Holga AND my polaroid all in there!).

"Sassy Sally's was a saloon located where the Mermaids used to be on Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas. The saloon was owned by Herb Pastor throughout it's entire history, opening in 1981 and officially closed in 1999, with the Mermaids replacing the saloon. Sassy Sally's is named after Herb Pastor's kids' babysitter, who is also mistaken for being the name for Vegas Vickie, the neon cowgirl on top of Glitter Gulch, which sat next to the saloon." -- CasinoCyclopedia

The Neon Museum features signs from old casinos and other businesses displayed outdoors on 2.62 acres. The museum features a restored lobby shell from the defunct La Concha Motel as its visitors' center, designed by famed architect Paul Revere Williams.

For many years, the Young Electric Sign Company (YESCO) stored many of these old signs in their "boneyard." The signs were slowly being destroyed by exposure to the elements. The signs are considered by Las Vegas locals, business owners and government organizations to be not only artistically, but also historically, significant to the culture of the city. Each of the restored signs in the collection holds a story about who created it and why it is important.

A very wise fellow photographer and Flickr Friend reminded you once again that Change Happens a lot on the Fabulous Las Vegas Strip! His advice to you in regards to the imminent demise of the grand old Mirage Resort & Casino was to get in as much Camera Safari work as possible here before this grand old Dame of the Strip goes away forever! 😧😵

Clearly that sounds like very sound advice! 😟 And perhaps the emergence of the New Hard Rock Hotel & Casino won’t be such a terrible thing after all?

Benny Binion bought the Eldorado Club and Apache Hotel in 1951, re-opening them as Binion's Horseshoe (also called the Horseshoe Casino), on Fremont Street in Las Vegas. The casino's interior had a frontier flavor, like an old-style riverboat, with low ceilings and velvet wallpaper. It was the first casino in downtown Las Vegas (also called Glitter Gulch) to replace sawdust-covered floors with carpeting, and was the first to offer comps to all gamblers, not just those who bet big money. Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas

Early Morning

South Las Vegas Blvd

Paradise, Nevada

600 Fremont St., Las Vegas NV.

The Stardust Hotel went bust in 2006 but its sign sparkles and shines to this day in Las Vegas' Neon Museum. It is one of the most popular signs, along with the Lido de Paris which took up residency in the Stardust in 1958. The Lido featured topless showgirls and continued playing until 1991, one of the longest running shows in Vegas.

The mission of the Neon Museum is to collect, preserve, study and exhibit iconic Las Vegas signs removed from hotels, motels, casinos and other venues. The museum is also responsible for restoring a dozen neon signs still in use in downtown Las Vegas and on Fremont Street. The Neon Museum officially opened in 1996 with the installation of its first refurbished sign, the Hacienda Horse and Rider, at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Fremont Street.

Gents — If you and your very lovely lady enjoyed doing Date Night at the ‘Rose.Rabbit.Lie’ Supper Club at the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino, then y’all should be thoroughly delighted by doing Date Night at the Mayfair Supper Club at the Bellagio Resort & Casino! 😉

And Gents — Because of Social Distancing due to the Coronavirus, the ambiance in this style of retro 1950s dinner club should be even more Romantic! 😈

The Neon Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, features signs from old casinos and other businesses displayed outdoors on 2.62 acres. The museum features a restored lobby shell from the defunct La Concha Motel as its visitor center, which officially opened on October 27, 2012. The Neon Museum was founded in 1996 as a partnership between the Allied Arts Council of Southern Nevada and the City of Las Vegas. Today, it is an independent non-profit. Located on Las Vegas Boulevard and Bonanza, the Neon Museum includes the new Neon Boneyard Park, which is adjacent to the former YESCO Boneyard. The impetus behind the museum was the loss of the iconic sign from The Sands; after it closed in 1995, there was no place to store the massive sign, and it was scrapped. To mark its official opening in November 1996, the Neon Museum restored and installed the Hacienda Horse & Rider sign at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Fremont Street. However, access to the collection was provided by appointment only. Annual attendance was approximately 12–20,000 during this time. In 2005, the historic La Concha lobby was donated to the museum, which moved and reassembled the building 4 miles (6.4 km) north along Las Vegas Boulevard after cutting it into eight pieces. It now serves as the museum's visitors' center and headquarters. Although it cost nearly $3 million to move and restore the La Concha, the plans to open a museum became concrete after the donation of the building, drawing a number of public and private grants and donations. In total, approximately $6.5 million was raised for the visitors' center, headquarters, a new park, and restoration of 15 major signs. In November 2009, the Neon Museum restored and installed the famous Silver Slipper sign across from its welcome center, and two more restored vintage signs were installed near the northern end of Las Vegas Boulevard to mark its designation as a National Scenic Byway. Paid public admission commenced on October 27, 2012, replacing the prior appointment-only basis. Attendance during the first year was 60,461, exceeding the early estimate of 45–50,000 visitors. After outgrowing its space in the former La Concha lobby shell, the museum moved its headquarters to old City Hall in 2016 and converted the offices into a museum store. In 2017, the museum purchased land for its first expansion since opening to the public in 2012. For its fifth anniversary, the Neon Museum offered free admission on October 28, 2017. In 2018, the Neon Museum administrative staff moved again to a space on the campus of the Las Vegas-Review Journal and opened a programming space there called Ne10 Studio.

It was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Bravo! The year was 1955 and the "Moulin Rouge" was the first desegregated hotel casino. I don't think it was bad management that shut it down.

December 23, 2021

Because of the Coronavirus Global Pandemic, it’s been three years since your very lovely lady last accompanied you on a week-long trip to the Fabulous Las Vegas Strip! So don’t you think that after two Moderna COVID-19 Vaccinations and two Pfizer COVID-19 Annual Boosters — It’s time for you and your very lovely lady to start ‘Living Las Vegas’ together again! Don’t you think… 😏

In the meantime, it’s time for you to conclude this Last Stand here at the Venetian and the Palazzo. It’s time for you to begin to make your long and bittersweet trek back to your hotel room. You need to pack your bags! 😒 After all, you must presume that unless your airline explicitly tells you that they can’t find a flight crew for your return flight tonight, that you are going to be Leaving Las Vegas tonight!

But not without stopping on the way to do your last Bourbon Happy Hour at the Petrossian Bar at the Bellagio Resort & Casino!

Cheers!! 🍺

Traveling Gnomes (n.): little gnome entities who travel the world clutching mysterious small brown bags which they guard with their life, never revealing the contents therein. They are inclined to hitch rides in any way they can. Although numerous such gnomes wander about the world at any given time, sightings are unusual, for traveling gnomes are very secretive and tend to be solitary stowaways. On rare occasions, gnomes from the smallest of known gnome clans will attach themselves to people who are traveling. This is a magical delight when it happens.

Don’t wait until the last day of your vacation to start thinking about gifts for your very lovely lady and for all your buddies back home — be thoughtful now! 😌

At 8:30 in the morning, the Las Vegas Strip is empty. But go to the VERY south end of the strip, and there is already a line of people waiting to get their photo taken at the Las Vegas sign. This is as far south as I went.
