Dozens of leaders gathered for an exclusive reception focused on creating lasting change in our region at EdgeWild Restaurant and Winery in Chesterfield, MO on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Guests heard firsthand from local leaders, including Rich McClure and Rev. Starsky Wilson on the work of the Ferguson Commission, Scott Schnuck on addressing local hunger and Connie Cunningham on Ready by 21 St. Louis, a process designed to help youth success in St. Louis County, St. Louis City and St. Charles County. Plenty of delicious hors d'oeuvres and drinks were provided courtesy of EdgeWild throughout the night.
Various graffiti carved into a rock at a lookout point over the Breaks gorge. The Breaks Interstate Park is a popular tourist destination.
My personal favorite is the relatively ornate (though somewhat faded) carving of the phrase, "Jesus saves." It's much more unique than the others, most of which are simply a name, sometimes with a date, or "so-and-so loves so-and-so." I can just imagine some evangelical vandal spending hours carving away stone to spread his or her message to the world.

Mike was surely celebrating when he finished this enormous and very challenging jigsaw. This is how it ranks in Mike's Timed Puzzles album.
No2 Jeux Artistiques 2680pc Man of Stars, Detail from Jean Lurcat Tapestry, cut 1950s.
"Completed in 108 hr., 22 mins. with no prior knowledge of the image. 2,680 total pieces: 145.6 secs./piece; 24.7 pcs./hr. Difficulty rating: 14.5/10. The second most difficult puzzle I've ever completed thus far."

The screen capture shows Mike's timed rankings 1-15 at Jan 2025. Mikes ranking system is a rounding of the time per piece, reduced to a 1-10 score. His most difficult puzzles score over 10. Whist it gives an idea of how difficult it is to place a piece, the score doesn't give any idea of the endurance required to complete the largest puzzles over many sessions, sometimes lasting weeks. Mike's jigsaws have only been made once and his skills and endurance are still increasing - a factor not accounted for in the score. The Puzzle Michele Wilson still life he mentions in the discussions currently ranks no11.
Man of Stars was the second of two very large Jeux Artistiques jigsaws he bought five years ago - the other large jigsaw comes in at no22. For his S&T Mike gave us a quick history of the company and its relationship to Puzzles Vera, then he showed us his progress at roughly 10hr intervals, until the beast was tamed at 108hrs 22min.
Mike said, "It took nearly 40 hours of struggle, once I got to the black background, to finally break through. The sheer number of pieces was overwhelming, because there was no clear way to sort or arrange them by shape. Some of the pieces do interlock, but the shapes twist and bend around each other making the fit completely non-intuitive. I faltered trying to build off the peripheries of the puzzle, but eventually found better results just by joining one piece with another, slowly getting together little pods of 3-4 pieces, and then toward the end filling in the voids."
A Quick Run down through jigsaws 1-15 at Jan 2025:
1 Genest Le Colimacon 834pc wood puzzle, "Empire (1932)" by Eric Aumonier, Completed in 47 hr., 17 mins. with no reference to the image. 834 total pieces: 204.1 secs./piece; 17.6 pcs./hr. Difficulty rating: 20.4/10.
2 Jeux Artistiques 2680pc Man of Stars, Detail from Jean Lurcat Tapestry, cut 1950s. "Completed in 108 hr., 22 mins. with no prior knowledge of the image. 2,680 total pieces: 145.6 secs./piece; 24.7 pcs./hr. Difficulty rating: 14.5/10. The second most difficult puzzle I've ever completed thus far."
3 Genest Le Colimacon 929pc wood puzzle, L'Ilkhanat (1305). This is also now the most difficult puzzle that I have ever timed, replacing Genest's 1200 piece Herukas and Consorts which held that position for more than 5 years. I would say that this one is probably even harder, considering that Herukas was my first Genest puzzle and since then I have grown more familiar with his tricks. Completed in 35 hr., 20 mins., completely blind to the image. 929 total pieces: 136.9 secs/piece; 26.3 pcs/hr. Difficulty rating: 13.7/10.
4 Genest Le Colimacon 929pc wood puzzle, "Honour" tapestry (detail). Completed in 34 hr., 27 mins. totally blind to the image. 929 total pieces: 133.4 secs./piece; 27.0 pcs./hr. (Honestly, it felt slower than that!). Difficulty rating: 13.3/10.
5 Genest Le Colimacon 1200pc wood puzzle: "Herukas and Consorts" (Tibetan art). Astounding 40 hrs., 49 mins. to complete. I never would have guessed that there could be a puzzle so difficult. No reference to the image used - none provided. 122 secs./piece; 29.4 pcs/hr. Difficulty rating: 12.2/10.
6 Nervous System 75pc wood puzzle, "Amoeba". Completed in 2 hr., 28 mins. with no box reference (none provided). 75 total pieces: 118.4 secs./piece; 30.4 pcs./hr. Difficulty rating: 11.8/10. Currently the third most difficult puzzle I've timed.
7 Genest Le Colimacon Secret Tibetan puzzle. Total time: 41 hrs., 49 mins. 1,291 total pieces: 116.6 secs./piece; 30.9 pcs./hr. Difficulty rating: 11.7/10. My second most difficult timed puzzle after Herukas and Consorts. I'd like to think that this puzzle is actually more difficult, and that I've gotten better at, or more familiar with, this type of art and cutting style.
8 Nervous System 70pc wood puzzle, "Patchwork Amoeba" Completed in 2 hr., 13 mins. with no reference to the image (none provided). 70 total pieces: 114.0 secs./piece; 31.6 pcs./hr. Difficulty rating: 11.4/10. Just slightly less difficult than the first amoeba puzzle, which may or may not have to do with my greater familiarity with the cut the second time around.
9 Eddie Puzzles Paris 2154pc wood puzzle, "Charge de Cavalerie". Not the most difficult puzzle I've ever done (Herukas and Consorts was slower) but a close second. Completed in 67 hr., 25 min. with no box reference. 113 secs/piece; Difficulty rating: 11.3/10.
10 Elyane Magniant 1321pc wood puzzle, Minerva mosaic. A beautiful and unusual image that was exceptionally challenging until the final 50 or so pieces. Completed in 39 hrs., 42 mins. with no box reference. 108.2 secs./piece; 33.3 pcs./hr. Not my slowest puzzle ever but in the top 5. Difficulty rating: 10.8/10.
11 Puzzle Michele Wilson 3483 piece wood puzzle, "Still-Life with Parakeet" by Jan van Kessel. Completed in 95 hrs., 10 mins. with no reference to the image. Avg. time: 98.4 secs./piece; 36.6 pieces per hour. Difficulty rating: 9.8/10.
12 Puzzle Michele Wilson 1198pc wood puzzle, "Scène du Vitrail". The final part of the puzzle went quickly, as I was rewarded for my patience through the majority of it. Completed in 32 hr., 27 mins. with no box reference. 97.5 secs./piece; 36.9 pcs./hr. Difficulty rating: 9.8/10.
13 Genest Le Colimacon 1236pc wood puzzle, "Mandala d'Avalokiteshvara." I found this puzzle to be brilliantly entertaining, with great colors, intricate details and cutting, yet a recognizable form that made solving somewhat easier than other Tibetan puzzles from Genest. Completed in 33 hr., 8 mins with no box reference. 96.5 secs./piece; 37.3 pcs/hr. Difficulty rating: 9.7/10.
14 Piatnik 1000pc cardboard puzzle, "Skyview: Venice". Hypnotic! Mesmerizing. Frustrating at times, especially in the beginning... Completed in 25 hrs., 44 mins. with no box reference. 92.6 secs/piece; 38.9 pcs./hr. Difficulty rating: 9.3/10. Blows away all other cardboard puzzles (so far) in terms of difficulty and right up there with Genest's toughest challenges!
15 Puzzle Michele Wilson 5056pc wood puzzle, "Café le Soir" by Vincent van Gogh. Largest piece count in top 15. Completed in 128 hrs., 32 mins. with no box reference. 5056 total pieces: 91.5 secs./piece; 39.3 pcs./hr. Difficulty rating: 9.2/10.

During my parents' annual visit, we planned an overnight getaway to Fredericksburg. After checking out of our hotel on Day 2 of our trip, we returned to Fredericksburg's downtown area and made our way down Main Street to the Marktplatz, or Market Square, which is situated along the 100 block of West Main Street. This public park features pavilions, walking paths, memorials, sculptures, and a wide variety of native plants and trees that collectively make up the Pioneer Memorial Garden.
Set amid the lush gardens is a handsome sculpture group titled ''Lasting Friendship'', which was created by artist J. Hester to commemorate the Meusebach–Comanche Peace Treaty. The kneeling figure shown here is Fredericksburg founder John O. Meusebach, who is accepting a peace pipe handed by Penateka Comanche Chief Santana (or Santa Anna). I took this shot over Santana's shoulder to show a closer view of the Meusebach statue. Two nearby plaques provide details on this work:
LASTING FRIENDSHIP
By J. Hester
John O. Meusebach, German settler and founder of Fredericksburg, and Penatuka Comanche Chief Santanna share a peace pipe May 9, 1847, at the signing of the treaty between the People of Fredericksburg and the Comanche Nation. The standing Comanche represents more than 20 other chiefs also participating in the treaty. This treaty is the only known peace treaty with Native Americans in United States history thought never to be broken. The spirit of this treaty continues in Fredericksburg today.
This bronze was presented to the City of Fredericksburg by the Fredericksburg 150th Anniversary Committee dedicated May 24, 1997.
A LASTING FRIENDSHIP
During Fredericksburg's 150th anniversary we celebrate the enduring friendship between the Comanche Nation and the People of Gillespie County. We honor the Comanches who helped to create and preserve this relationship and their descendants who have continued the friendship.
Chiefs Old Owl, Santana, Ketemoczy, Buffalo Hump, and Horseback were among about 20 chiefs present in 1847 at the San Saba River Peace Treaty Summit and at the Fredericksburg Treaty signing with John O. Meusebach, Fredericksburg's founder; also respectful friends Chief Quanah Parker, Herman Lehmann, and Rudolph Fischer.

The Honolulu District held a Retirement Ceremony today to honor a large group of District employees who are soon to retire from federal service. If you add up all their work years, these 17 great Americans served our nation for almost 600 years. If you add in the other 10 retirees who couldn’t make it today, it comes out to over 700 combined years of service. We are honored and humbled by their commitment and dedication to duty. We wish them great happiness and long-lasting health in their retirement. Mahalo nui loa for all they have done! Aloha!

Jesse Lingard injury: David Moyes offers update as star encouraged to 'reimburse West Ham's bet' and sign on lasting exchange from Manchester United
West Ham chief David Moyes has made light of any injury stresses over Jesse Lingard, who has been asked to reimburse the Hammers' 'bet' and sign for all time from Manchester United.
Lingard stumbled off the pitch towards the finish of West Ham's 3-2 loss at Newcastle United on Saturday, provoking feelings of trepidation from allies over their fantasies about fitting the bill for the Champions League.
Lingard roused a Hammers rebound with an objective from the punishment spot, as Moyes' men struggled back from 2-0 down at half-an ideal opportunity to even out the game 2-2 at St James' Park on Saturday evening.
In any case, the on-credit star was constrained off with an evident physical issue before the end, while another loanee struck for Newcastle as Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock got a significant victor to settle the fantastic experience.
Fans anticipated apprehensively for news on Lingard's wellness after the game, with the Hammers still solidly in the chase for a main four completion in spite of the unexpected loss. In any case, Moyes had positive news for the London Stadium dependable.
Moyes told journalists: "I think it was simply cramp, I don't think it was anything genuine. I think the one thing about Jesse, Jesse is a truly fit kid.
"He needs to play. I think I push every one of my players hard, Jesse is the same.

Lasting Legacy “A righteous person lives on the basis of his integrity. Blessed are his children after he is gone.” (Proverbs 20:7 GW)
The Bible says that God blesses those who have integrity (Matthew 5:8). So what are the privilege blessings that we can expect, when we live our life with an authenticity and a pure heart:
=>. Personal Confidence, when we have integrity, we will become the kind of person that other people like to be around, we know who we are, and know where we’re going, so that, we're always standing on solid ground (Proverbs 10:9) => A Lasting Legacy, Our greatest legacy is our integrity, and it will last from generation to generation. (when we’re gone away, our money will be divided among our family, and it’s going to be spent. Someone will take place our work, and all the trophies that we've earned are going to be thrown in the trash and taken to the dump). But our character is going to be translated into the lives of the people around us and then into the lives of the next generation, and It is a real lasting legacy. (Proverbs 20:7) => Rewards in Eternity, We tend to think that the rewards are in the big moments of our life, that make us proud of where everybody is watching. But for real, it’s in the small moments that we have shown real integrity for every small word of encouragement that we give, for every small act of kindness, and for every time you reject a temptation, you will be rewarded in eternity. That’s the power of integrity and the difference it makes not just here but for eternity! (Matthew 25:21) Hallelujah, God bless
