The latest addition to my collection of cameras.

It arrived as a collection of parts in a box - with small parts bagged and labeled. Everything except the wood for the folding base was included. And the bellows was new and glued to the original frames, but not mounted. I made a non-folding base using a piece of 3/4 inch scrap plywood. Everything went together reasonably easy for an 80 year old wooden camera. I do have lenses that will cover 8x10, but I am not going to pull them from their boards for this. Adapters are in the works. I'm also considering a dedicated lens for it. I'm guessing a Goerz barrel lens mounted in the hole seen here, but I'm not going to make purchases for fit checks.

I don’t remember where this is because it’s been 11 years since I took it. It's somewhere in Oregon.

The negative is sub optimum. I was new at large format, and traveling with a Linhof Technica, which, while it’s got decent movements for a press camera, was not really made for this kind of shot. The lens had a small image circle, so when I attempted the ballet of adjustments that one has to perform to do a simple front and back tilt on a Technica, I missed that the top of the image was vignetted. Needless to say, this is cropped. I let the negative sit unloved for over a decade until I plucked it out of its sleeve today, and tried to see what I could make of it. You know, It’s not too bad. I wish the foreground was sharper, but I’ll take it.

Salt print from an «impossible» calotype which suffered heavy fogging. It is rather laughable how long it needed to get printed 😅 luckily for that print I stayed home on Monday….

No plans to print it again, oh no, not another time with 4 hours by lamplight and 2 more hours in sunlight the day after!

I put lots of time and energy into this project, but at the end it was worth it. Snowdrops are always the first sign for the most beautiful time of the year. Spring is not far away anymore, soon the dream comes true. Link to the bhts

It has been quite a while since I've posted here, laying fallow and all that. There is still much to explore and think about, places to find, inside and out.
