Transplantation and planting of mature olives to create an instant orchard. These olive trees are approximately 500 years old but have only been in this garden for a few months.

This outdoor fireplace in Waxhaw, NC uses a synthetic stone for all the vertical surfaces and a natural stone for all of the vertical surfaces.
The cut-out above the fireplace features a low voltage light fixture.
These last photos show the gazebo installed over the hot tub to provide shelter and privacy. This product is from www.whitepavilion.co.uk and is a clever mix of timber, stainless steel and PVC canvas to create this fantastic gazebo. The garden was designed by www.postalgardendesign.co.uk and built by www.wyldldandscapes.co.uk.
The westernmost courtyard in the complex (though open on one side). This design, while having many nice elements has a riot of 'machinery' in it that creates quite a bit of visual chaos. There's irrigation access valves, manhole covers, emergency call kiosks, among other such items littered about. It seems like landscapes require so much 'stuff' now, there should be a design manager just for the utiilties of the design.
Strangely enough, the visual chaos wasn't the worst type of chaos here. Just over the tree with leaves on the left is a speaker that belts out an aggressive bird species' call to ward away any local birds enthused by this new habitat. Bring in the birds, but scare them away from nesting. More importantly, the frequent speaker jars the visitor trying to relax and enjoy the ubiquitous avian life going on here.

A Funky Communal Roof Terrace in Canning Town, London E16 4LG
Brief:
The client owns a number of flats within a private residential block in Canning Town, East London. The block is home to approximately a hundred residents. Currently, the block benefits from a communal roof terrace. However, this space is uninspiring and mainly used as an area for smoking and the occasional barbeque. The brief was to develop a second roof terrace for communal use by the residents. Views out from the terrace include the Millennium Dome and the canopies of the trees in a neighbouring park. These views should be emphasised in the new design.
Solution:
The design creates a contemporary and vibrant space using a series of modular units, comprising steel planters with built-in seating and tables on a grid of interlocking decking. These units vary in size to provide places to eat or relax for varying sizes of group. A large section of artificial lawn located in the sunniest corner of the terrace will feature a number of built-in, bespoke, artificial lawn covered sun loungers/seats. The decking features a large square insert of turquoise Perspex, which will be backlit to bring the space to life in the evening. The Perspex theme is continued with the addition of brightly coloured, varied length Perspex rods through the planters, while Perspex armchairs provide durable and contemporary individual seating.
Specimen shrubs provide structural backbone to the planting scheme, complemented by evergreen grasses to give colour and movement, and hardy architectural plants that will maintain their appeal throughout the seasons. The planting is also chosen for its vibrant foliage colour and low maintenance. Two sides of the terrace will be screened using small, coloured Perspex squares on stainless steel tension wire interspersed with planting, to allow privacy to the residents that own terraces directly below without masking the surrounding views. On a third side, a structural glass screen makes the terrace safe but does not affect the views. Smokers are provided with an area of seating in a sheltered spot located close to the doors out on to the terrace. Shelter from the wind comes from large specimens shrubs.
Placing one's weight upon the seats trigger a discussion of dyslexia and its effects upon individuals. This is a nice feature, using sound to convey messages.
While nice, the only trouble I found with it is that it is at the entry to the front yard site facing out to the street. In this way, it becomes a bit of a spectacle. You're looking out at the street life, making it harder to concentrate on the information and emotions caused by the recording.
Also, because it's a novel feature, many other folks wait to get on the seat. They're facing you, so you feel a bit of pressure to move along.

Well-loved Brockwell Park serves the dense urban populations of Brixton, Herne Hill and adjacent neighbourhoods. Brockwell Park’s facilities and infrastructure had become run-down and outdated and the park had become shabby.
An umbrella group of key stakeholders formed - The Brockwell Park Community Partners - to drive the restoration project forward. LUC tendered competitively and was appointed as lead consultant and landscape architect for stages A-L of the project, overseeing the successful application for full funding of the project.
Key principles guiding the project were:
•to restore primary elements of the 18th and 19th century landscape including key vistas
•to enhance and improve access to the site by improving entrances and signage
•to improve perception of safety within the park
•to integrate modern play and recreation facilities
•to restore the series of ponds enhancing the habitat and biodiversity
•to provide a clear and realistic vision for sustainable management of the park
Central to the restoration concept was the provision of better infrastructure within the park for community use.
LUC led a strong team of specialists including conservation architects, cost consultants, and engineers, to create a complete construction package for the restoration. Construction completed on site in 2013. As Contract administrator LUC worked closely with the contractor and sub-contractors, QS and the client team to keep this large-scale and complicated project running smoothly.
Work included the restoration of historic features such as the Temple, Lodge shelters and walled garden, two new playgrounds, significant drainage works, restoration of the ponds, extensive planting, replacement of park furniture and signage and substantial improvements to the path network.
The official opening has been followed by overwhelmingly positive comments from the parks users, increased use of many of the parks facilities and the receipt of several awards.
