New patio and trellis set adjacent to remnant walls of an old barn structure. New plantings were installed at the patio edge.
Before Landscape Transformation – Back - This is a photo from the sales flyer when we purchased our home. We did an extensive landscape transformation adding a brick paver patio, stone stepper walkway, fountain, and several flower beds. We installed landscape lighting in the front and back yard using two separate 300 watt circuits (front and back). LED lights are used to illuminate evergreens as they enhance the blue, green, and silver colors while saving energy. We used 20 watt halogen flood lights to light up deciduous trees and shrubs (LED lights are too unnatural, in my opinion, even when using new LED’s advertised as “warm white”. I find LED’s give deciduous trees a Halloween appearance). The gazebo was added to the patio to provide shelter from afternoon sun and light rain.
We love the feeling of taking our shoes off and walking on flagstone in the backyard and enjoying a patio with a view of the city. We can help you out with the walkway and patio but you're on the own for the view! What do you love (or hate) about your backyard?

These photos show the finished garden after the terracing work is complete. After the retaining walls were constructed, the ground was raised to the new levels with topsoil and a new lawn laid. A large deck at the lower end of the garden provides an ample entertaining area and raisning the shed also allows easy access. A small amount of planting along the left side adds to the interest without creating too much maintenance. The design was carried out by www.postalgardendesign.co.uk and the build by www.wyldlandscapes.co.uk

topher delaney's garden at Cornerstone Festival of Gardens. It's a bit beaten up here after the rains, as were all the other gardens. The ground here is usually *white* with crushed oyster shells. Basically, it's a commentary on mass consumption and consumerism, as the white ground, trees, and canvas on the three sides not pictured here(though you can see the shadow). The wall in the back is made of plastic lumber, a crass bar code dominating this empty scene.

Another 'true horizontal' area in the plaza. I found it interesting and compelling that the designers had no qualms about layering and 'urban' element over the romantically designed regionalist vocabulary of the rest of the plaza.
the irregular shape of the granite and clay pavers required each to be individually leveled in the sand bed
the naturally worn cobbles where great to work with in this patio. on some cobbles you could see where the trolley cars of the Twin Cities wore them down.

Before Landscape Transformation – Front - This is a photo from the sales flyer when we purchased our home. We did an extensive landscape transformation extending the existing flowerbeds on both sides of the front steps, also added a brick paver landing and walkway by removing the existing concrete sidewalk. We added an additional three flowerbeds and bluestone and natural stone edging to the front yard. The original roof was removed and a Colonial Slate lifetime shingle was used to add interest and texture to what was a large uninteresting space.
