I couldn't resist the chance to see the various scales side by side.

Bburago 1/18th scale Jeep Wrangler Sahara edition.

Full 1:1 scale Honda CRV 4WD.

If I'd had access to a BelAZ 75710 mining truck, I would have included that too. Its wheel and tyre combination is just over 4 metres in diameter, which is almost the length of my full size car!

Land Rover Owner International Show 2023 at Belvoir Castle, near Grantham, Leicestershire, United Kingdom. Saturday 9th September 2023.

About the photograph.

This is a heavily modified Land Rover Defender which had been modified for extreme off-roading, with roll bars, heavy modified suspension, and the rugged looking tyres (tires).

As part of a live show, this Land Rover, along with a few others, was doing a showcase of their off-roading capabilities, by going over an artificial rough ground, and also by speeding around the arena.

Here, this one must’ve turned too fast, and the driver lost control, then the Land Rover flipped over a few times before landing on its roof.

When I saw it happened, I only had enough time to bring up my camera, and managed to take some shots as it came to rest. What you see is dust that was kicked up as the SUV rolled over.

The driver was total okay, maybe a bit dizzy from being flipped around, but otherwise, very well. He simply crawled out of the cockpit, stand up, and other Land Rover drivers simply came along to help turn it back on its wheels.

The weather was very hot, even thought it was September, it was as hot as a July weather, and there was a lot of heat haze, which would need a lot of dehazing setting, but I thought to convert it into black and white for a dramatic feel to the action.

About the day.

In the early morning, I woke up, got ready, and took a three hour drive to Belvoir Castle, but that morning was already very warm, with a cloudless sky and the sun beating down on the land.

By the time I got there, I was already feeling very hot. I wore light coloured t-shirt, lightweight trousers, and a lot of sun cream, plus plenty of water.

Sadly, after about a couple of hours, I became a bit overheated in the burning sky, there weren’t much shades around, and it was kind of a heatwave of some sort.

So I had to give up, and return home to avoid getting a heat stroke, I only took like about 400 shots, and that was all I could manage.

When I got home, I had to have a cool down and a rest, and thankfully managed to stay well.

The Defender was introduced in 1983 as the Land Rover Ninety and the Land Rover One Ten, with the numbers representing the wheelbase in inches. The Ninety and One Ten replaced the earlier Land Rover Series, and at the time of launch, the only other Land Rover model in production was the Range Rover.

The One Ten was launched in 1983, and the Ninety followed in 1984. From 1984, wind-up windows were fitted (Series models and very early One Tens had sliding panels), and a 2.5-litre (153 cu in), 68 horsepower (51 kW) diesel engine was introduced. This was based on the earlier 2.3-litre (140 cu in) engine, but had a more modern fuel-injection system as well as increased capacity. A low compression version of the 3.5-litre (214 cu in) V8 Range Rover engine transformed performance. It was initially available in the One Ten with a four-speed transmission with integral transfer case, then later in conjunction with a high strength 'Santana' five-speed transmission. With a higher performance 3.5 litre engine from 1988.

The Defender was updated for the final time in August 2011 gaining a new more efficient ZSD-422 2.2 litre turbodiesel engine which incorporated a diesel particulate filter and was Euro V emissions standards compliant. Otherwise, the Defender was palpably recognisable as a direct descendant of the very first 80-inch Series One Landie which had debuted some sixty-three years’ earlier.

Chassis No: SALLDHTP7GA484056

was registered on 19th August 2016 – almost seven months after the very last Defender had rolled off the production line.

This car was offered for sale by auction, at the H+H, Pavilion Gardens Buxton, 27.04.2022 with an auction guide price of £ 32,000 to £ 40,000

About the photograph.

This is a heavily modified Land Rover Defender which had been modified for extreme off-roading, and is seen in the photo taking part in a live action show at a Land Rover show.

I have no idea who the driver is, as I did not buy a programme, so I can’t look up for information.

Note the anti-roll bars over most parts of the car, a bullbar on the front, the rugged looking tyres (tires) including the spare on the back, the heavy modified suspension all of which are part of the modifications.

This was happening during a live action shot, where many drivers of various heavy modified Land Rover models, mostly the Defender models, showcased the car’s capabilities of handling an artificial rough ground.

Here, this 4x4 is seen going up a kind of seesaw. What it would do is slowly drive up until about halfway, when the seesaw beam would balance itself, and the car would slowly move forwards until the other end drops, so it would then drive off.

The weather was very hot, even thought it was September, it was as hot as a July weather, and there was a lot of heat haze, which would need a lot of dehazing setting, but I thought to convert it into black and white for a dramatic feel to it.

About the photograph.

This is a heavily modified Land Rover Defender which had been modified for extreme off-roading, and is seen in the photo taking part in a live action show at a Land Rover show.

The driver’s name is J Thompson, as seen by the name sticker on the door, just above the door handle.

What Thompson was doing, was to attach his winch cable to another Land Rover, seen out of frame on the right side of the photo, so he could use his own winch to help pull his Defender up the most difficult slope, to get on top of high ground.

Note the anti-roll bars over most parts of the car, the winch on the front, the rugged looking tyres (tires), the heavy modified suspension all of which are part of the modifications. Also note the Union Flag on the bodywork.

A final shot (for now) of my latest model car, the 1/160th scale Land Rover Defender.

Some interesting and slightly ridiculous trivia about this car and its cost. I bought it for about $15 making it far and away my cheapest model car.

If I had bought all my models and even my real car on a cost per kilogram basis, things get a little different!

My real full size Honda CRV cost about $20 per kilogram. (A little dearer than minced beef)

On average, my 1/18th scale model die-cast cars work out at about $150 to $200 per kilogram for the cheaper ones (we're getting into Wagyu steak territory now).

As it weighs just 2 grams, this little beastie came in at a whopping $7500 per kilogram! If it had been made of silver, it would have been a lot cheaper. So, it is worth more than silver, though still not quite worth its weight in gold...... but it's not far off!

Land Rover Owner International Show 2023 at Belvoir Castle, near Grantham, Leicestershire, United Kingdom. Saturday 9th September 2023.

About the photograph.

The photograph was shot in colour, but there was too much strong sunlight and the photo needed a lot of dehaze setting, but then I thought to convert it into black and white while in Adobe Lightroom, for a more dramatic feel to what he was doing.

What happened in the photo was that his heavily modified Land Rover Defender (seen on the left) came up against a very large slope, and would not be able to drive up by itself, as the slope is far too steep.

So the driver gets out, and pulls out the cable from the winch motor on the front of his Defender, then here in the photo you see him climbing up the rough ground.

His plan is to climb over, tie the cable to any strongest support on the other side of the big lump of ground, so that he would get back in his car, and the winch would pull itself up the slope, then he could drive over it.

And that is what he did.

The owner was quick to tell me the great advantages, I believed him :)-

I called into the workshop today, expecting to find the boys working on restoring the dirty old black Mustang, and what do I find? Dougie is nowhere to be seen, and Cal (who is meant to be our armed security guard) is totally distracted with his new scale model car! (It is a nice looking little model Landrover Defender - I am actually rather jealous!)

Before you know it, he'll be doing his own forced perspective shots!

Grown men playing with toy cars - what is the world coming to? ; )

The little model Landrover is actually an accessory for N scale model railway layouts, and made by a company called Busch. It is roughly 1/160th scale and measures in at just 26mm long! For its size, it is amazingly detailed. Within this model diorama, it is the equivalent of Cal having a 1/8th scale model of his own.

This little model arrived today, and the box it was in was filled with "packing peanuts" each of which was bigger than the model car!

Having done that, they are seen in the photo, putting the winch cable back, and preparing for the next stage which is to come down.

This was happening as part of the live action show, to showcase the Land Rover’s capacities of dealing with the rugged landscape.

The Land Rover Defender seen upside down, had been heavily modified for extreme off-roading, with roll bars, modified suspension system, and rugged looking tyres (tires).

As part of a live show, this Land Rover with a few others similar modified Defenders, was doing a showcase of their off-roading capabilities, by going over an artificial rough ground and also by speeding around the arena.

Here, this one must’ve turned too fast, and the driver lost control, then the Land Rover flipped over a few times before landing on its roof. As you can see, the driver and the co-driver are both fine and well.

They are seen preparing to turn their vehicle back up on its feet. The plan is to attract a cable to their own Defender, and the other end is attached to the winch on another Land Rover. It is a simple case of the other Land Rover pulling this one upright.

The weather was very hot, even thought it was September, it was as hot as a July weather, and there was a lot of heat haze, which would need a lot of dehazing setting, but I thought to convert it into black and white for a dramatic feel to the action.

Land Rover Owner International Show.

Land Rover Owner, often abbreviated as LRO, is a British monthly magazine for Land Rover enthusiasts, published by a company based in Peterborough. The full title is often Land Rover Owner International.

It first started in July 1987 by a group of East Anglian businessmen, and was a mainly black and white 40 pages magazine. By the mid-1990s, it was bought by a publishing group, and became one of the popular Land Rover magazines.

The Land Rover Owner International Show is a yearly event ran by the magazine, and usually during the weekend in September. It features many various Land Rover vehicles on display, and includes an action arena for Land Rover drivers to display their driving skills.

Land Rover Owner International Show 2023 at Belvoir Castle, near Grantham, Leicestershire, United Kingdom. Saturday 9th September 2023.

About the photograph.

Those two are heavily customised Land Rover Defender 4x4 modified for extreme off-roading. I have no idea what kind of engine they got, and I don’t have much information about them, as I didn’t get a programme for this event.

Seen in the photo, they are showing off their off-roading abilities over some kind of a mock up rough terrain, during a live display show in the arena. The one at the back is seen going on a seesaw, a balancing beam.
