Built for Flickr LUGNuts 4-year anniversary, to the theme 'Anything Under the Sun' - this open top Corvette is the perfect way to blow away the remainder of your hair.
Based on the C6 Coupe, the Convertible shares the fundamental chassis and design, but reinforces the sill area to maintain bending rigidity. The C6 is the six generation of a long running series of open top sports cars from the GM Chevrolet division, commencing in 1953. This latest C6 version was first released in 2005, with an expected C7 replacement in 2013. The Corvette is the longest running series production sportscar from the USA.
The current Corvette is powered by the LS3 V8 engine of 6.2 litres capacity, with outputs of 436 hp (325 kW).
I kind of went berserk when I saw this. I have a couple of other G8s on my photostream, and I've noted that this piece of australian engineering has long been a dream car of mine. But to date I've only ever photographed base G8 sedans or GTs. The GXP(with its 415hp LS3 V8 sourced from the Corvette) was a car I thought I might never get a chance to see, much less photograph. I had a point-when production of the G8 ended last year, less than 2000 had been built. The thing is practically an exotic.
Low and behold, here I am leaving a seafood restaurant in Boston with family when I spot this gem just sitting in the mall parking lot all by its lonesome!
If you're lucky enough to live in the Middle East, England or Australia/New zealand, you can still buy this car as either a Chevy CSV CR8, a Vauxhall VXR8, or a Holden HSV Clubsport R8. If you're like me and you're just a hapless Holden lover stuck in the US...take a good look. They aren't coming back.

On reflection, I should have taken a lot more time with the owners, to note the details of this extraordinarily fabulous car.
As it is, I managed to find some data from the magic of the interweb!
First registered on 1 March 1968, this gem has been extensively modified.

A high-end, no-expense-spared custom build with only 1,000 miles since completion (with probably a few more under its belt by now).
Designed as a turnkey Trans Am-inspired car ready for road courses and everyday use, it's also a stunning show car capable of winning any show. Supplied with 2 binders of specifications and documentation.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT:
An $8,438 LS3 6.2L crate engine with 495 horsepower and 473 lb-ft of torque.
The engine features a nodular crank, powdered rods, hypereutectic pistons, and a race cam, paired with a polished Spectre intake tube and color-matched valve covers.
Exhaust gases exit through Hedmann stainless shorty headers.
March Pro Track brackets and pulleys drive a serpentine belt, powering a polished alternator and A/C compressor.
A custom Auto Rad aluminum radiator with dual electric fans ensures cooling, while premium hoses and fittings complete the setup.
The hydro-boost system powers the steering and brakes.
The engine bay is smooth, glossy, and meticulously detailed, with a custom aluminum firewall and core support.
EXTERIOR:
Custom bodywork throughout, with subtle and bold modifications. The front features a bumperless design, a reworked valance with 1969 running lights, and a small integrated spoiler. It boasts modern Camaro sport mirrors, a cowl hood, and mesh grilles under the cowl vents. The fenders, quarters, and rockers are extended and boxed to create a lowered, aggressive stance. The rear trunk and quarters feature a custom dove tail, with a pop-up fuel filler relocated to the trunk lid. Painted in gorgeous Le Mans Blue with a high-gloss finish, the car has retrofitted Corvette bumperettes and charcoal gray gloss trim. New dark-tinted glass and Forgiato wheels (worth $1,200 each) on brand new Michelins with 20-inch rears that are extra wide. Hidden Rain Gear wiper system in the cowl.
INTERIOR:
Luxurious leather and suede upholstery. Sport seats keep you firmly in place, and the rear seat is custom upholstered to match the front. The door panels are sculpted and feature relocated, custom handles. Power windows are controlled via micro-switches hidden in the window cranks. The leather-wrapped dash pad complements the custom blue-lit gauges and blue push-button starter. Vintage Air climate controls are electric for smooth operation. A custom center console houses a power mirror switch and the 5-speed shifter. The Billet Specialties tilt steering column is topped with a stylish wheel. The headliner and visors are suede, and the stereo system features a retro unit, amp, aux plugs, and speakers throughout. Premium wool carpet with matching bound mats.
UNDERSIDE:
Built for performance with independent suspension front and rear. The front features a Chris Alston Chassisworks subframe with tubular control arms, adjustable coil-over shocks, and rack & pinion steering. The rear sports a Heidts Pro G independent suspension system, designed for high horsepower and ideal for autocross handling, with tubular control arms, traction bars, adjustable coil-over shocks, and inboard disc brakes. The brake system includes Wilwood 6-piston calipers in front, braided hoses, stainless lines, and a new e-brake. The exhaust is a custom 2.5-inch stainless system with MagnaFlow mufflers. The 5-speed Tremec is mated to an aluminum motor, with a QuickTime bell housing and billet flywheel. The driveshaft leads to a 9-inch rear with 3.70 posi gears and custom Alston mini tubs for wider rear tires. The underside is meticulously detailed, with the floors matching the body color and every component carefully finished.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT:
Completely boxed and carpeted, with a suede-covered underside of the trunk lid. An Optima battery with a billet hold-down bracket and an amplifier for the stereo are housed behind the rear panel. The relocated windshield washer bottle adds to the clean look. The trunk is accessible via a remote cable behind the license plate, with painted jambs and new weather stripping.
This Camaro is not only a visual masterpiece but also a performance powerhouse. It offers exceptional handling, with cutting-edge suspension and braking systems, all backed by a potent LS3 engine. Ready to impress on the track or show.
Purchased from a private collection in Switzerland and offered for sale within the UK for the first time.
Visit on March 2, 2018 to the Detroit Autorama, America's greatest hot rod show, as it is billed. The prime feature of the show are the Pirelli Great Eight Finalists. These eight cars (including this 1969 Camaro) compete for the Don Ridler Memorial Award, the most coveted award in the custom car fraternity.
This mirror-quality black Camaro was created by Detroit Speed, Inc. of Detroit, Michigan and was in development for nine years with hundreds of modifications. Power is from a supercharged Corvette LS2 engine with a Harrop Supercharger mated to a Tremec 6-speed transmission.
