I've had a lot of fun today with the Numpty Shirt. The sad thing is that Numptywear is exciting to my baby. So much so that I use it as bedroom bait.
This is my three hundred sixtieth self portrait for 365 Days. W00t!

Among the last of my night-photos while in Nashville last week.
Detail from a door at midnight: I walked by the door, dismissing it out of hand. But when I looked again I noticed some rusted scrawling. So, I used my hand-held LED flashlight to raise the letters a little bit.
I have no idea what the original scribbling referred to: the sign was missing. I enjoyed the irony. There was nothing there. Does that mean nothing means me? I mean nothing? Rust means me?
Who can say?

I enjoy finding interesting things to photograph in normal, everyday objects.
The cats' outdoor water bowl kept freezing up today. When I went to empty it, I saw the interesting patterns in the ice shards. So, out came the pocket camera with its sweet macro mode. The light wasn't good, so I played with the LED flashlight.
Something about this view reminds me of the earth ... like the view from outerspace.

"strobist" with three LED flashlights and one MacBook Pro screen and iPod touch screen in a dark room.
Just another Fall leaf series. This time, with dew.
This is actually a small detail portion of the larger image. I like the transparent dome-like quality of the big dew drop.
I'm using a hand-held 3-watt LED flashlight to illuminate the leaf here.

Not quite right, but the best of what I shot tonight...All dark room, blue LED flashlight on floor, red LED flashlight on left.
A two AA LED Maglight flashlight with reflector removed was used as a point source to cast shadow of front turn signal bulb from older vehicle onto tracing paper. The photo was made of side of tracing paper away from light source. If you look closely, you can see a hint of the coils of the filaments.

My parent's vacation house at night from down the hill. This image is actually a digital composition of four different shots. The main shot supplied the house and garage, the steps along the left side were painted in using a flashlight in another capture, and the two bottom beams of light into the grass were light painted using an LED flashlight in two other frames. The garage wall was lit using an Alien Bee B800 at full power (you can slightly see the 48" octobox along the line of the tree), which was then color balanced to the rest of the scene (somewhat, not perfect) using a curves and hue/saturation adjustment layer in Photoshop.
When I get somewhere with decent bandwidth I will write a blog post including setup shots for this composition.
All you need to record some of your humidity for posterity is --
A large encyclopedia, an ancient unused exercise mat, an LED flashlight and of course a humidifier. The jury is still out as to whether it was worth the effort or not. The shots in color weren't very good. The white balance, as you might imagine, was all over the lot.
Someday I will bring my tripod out of the car and do projects like this right. These are all hand held with high ISO.

Basket from Palawan, Philippines, painted with light using a L.E.D. flashlight with a warming gel. Exposure, f/11 at 20 seconds. Background lit with a Nikon SB-28 with red gel at 1/32 power setting.

Took a walk in the park the other night. Decided to take my camera and my LED flashlight to see what i could find. I put my camera on a rock and shot this fire hydrant. I used my flashlight to illuminate the hydrant. Came off better than I expected.
Technically, I was trespassing. The park closes at dusk.
I wore black. Catch me if you can, coppers!
(Compare with a newer shot I took)

I have a 3M PostIt note upon which I scribbled inky blackness with a Sharpie (I'm all about trade-names!). This little 3x3-inch square of night became the background for a couple experiments. I like it because it's dark, yet textured, and flat. And tiny.
Here is the PostIt note all by itself. No forground, no background, no subject, no floating objects. Just boring, beautiful nothing.

Well, I was using an LED flashlight too...
Kind of reminds me of an aquarium
One long exposure taken in moonlight (which didn't come through much in this six minute exposure) and I was holding an LED flashlight to light plants being watered with a sprinkler hose in a garden.
You don't know what it might come out like if you don't try.
I worked in the morning, but the afternoon we took Roxie for a trot to a place new to us: Chappell Chill. It was the nicest "biker bar" I'd ever been to. It was nice to just get out of the house!

Strobist Info: LumoPro "Hot Shoe Universal Translator" firing the 430EX 8' away to photo leftt @ 1/64 power. Most light is coming from the LED Flashlight above right, pretty close to keep the light circle small.
A repost from a year ago. But it's for a good reason. Congrats on picking up a line number for Chief, Rick! Yippeeeeee!
This is straight out of the camera. No processing. Another night of the exercise standing on the Transient Pad waiting on a helicopter. I was just dicking around with my LED light and snapped this shot of Rick. Cool.
One of the cubbyholes for gloves and such at the baseball diamond near my house. Lit very poorly with my LED flashlight. I like the subtlety of the blue.

Shot about mobile operators... =)
I use only one LED flashlight.

Just some experiments with my handy LED flashlight and the texture on a white cloth napkin. Funny. I hadn't really noticed the embossing before.

If you are looking for a full-featured digital camera, this unit should on your short list. The 2.4-inch display is large enough to comfortably frame the shots. In light of the 5.0-megapixel CMOS sensor, you can never complain about the image quality. In addition, the ultra-thin design enhances the portability. This well-rounded camera is the best solution for your imaging needs.
Just a light and shadow study using my 100 Possibilities object and the temporary crown that fell out at lunch yesterday. Both of these are straight out of the camera.
I liked the abstract angle of my hand here. Which do you like, if either?
This was shot in the abandoned building attached to Red's Recovery Room in Cotati, CA. Very little light and no tripod = noise...
My buddy Jim loves spinning class. I am in retrospect not surprised he picked Spinning Things for FGR. It's a natural!
My spinning thing is a 1" spade bit in the drill. It is lit by my 100 Possibilities object, the LED flashlight.
I liked the other shot I took of a fire hydrant the other night, so I tried it again, with a different hydrant. The shot was blurry due to the hand-held camera, low light, and bad exposure. In those situations, the graininess of the "infrared filter" works nicely to distract from this.

Once more with the LED flashlight and my eyeball. Flashlight in my left hand, camera in my right. My mind nowhere to be found.

Aside from the elegant and chiseled-like design, the Bluetooth mouse boasts the great general sensitivity. It can easily fit in either left or right hand. The four buttons are located ergonomically. And the unit also features smooth wheel scrolling. Just enjoy the benefits of excellent performance and convenience.

Just have a good day, OK?
Shmobist info: I'm lit by the freaking LED flashlight. Hello? Duh?
This is an Internet Friend of mine who I've known for at least three years and who I just actually met for the first time yesterday. We went to the falls and were all touristy. It was a good time. I got to show off some of my esoteric knowledge of the area, like how they once turned off the falls to see if they could pretty it up a bit.
This was taken down at Niagara Falls while we were waiting for the Friday fireworks show to start. Unless you were a massive cascade of water pouring over a cliff at 1.5 million gallons per second, there was no real light in the area to speak of. What I ended up doing to get this picture was bumping my ISO up to 1600 and using an assist from my iPhone's LED flash using a free flashlight app. In hindsight, I ought to have had Trisha hold the iPhone so I could keep both hands on the camera, 'cause it's still a bit blurry, and I probably should've dropped my exposure by a third stop or so since the lighting confused my meter a bit. Ahwell, c'est la vie.
