A 3D red/cyan anaglyph of Richard Lyons at the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office on 7th St. NW, Wash DC. Mr. Lyons just happened to show up while I was taking a tour a couple Fridays ago - and of course I had my 3D camera with me.
In 1996, Richard Lyons, a carpenter for the General Services Administration (GSA), discovered the lost apartment and office space of Clara Barton, who in 1865 started a Missing Soldiers Office from the 3rd floor of what was then a boarding house on 7th St NW in Washington DC. After the last tenant moved out in 1911, the 3rd floor was eventually blocked off and the significance of the space forgotten. A NPS news release from Dec 11, 1997 said, "Architecturally, the third floor of 437 7th Street survived intact from the 1860s. Robust mid-19th century door surrounds, moldings, and stairways; original stained or grained doors with mid-19th century stenciled numbers; intact wallpaper either from the mid-19th century or later--all suggest a date immediately preceding the Civil War."
Before 1996, the building (Square 457-C) was part of the Pennsylvania Avenue Development Corporation (PADC) project, the holdings of which were transferred to GSA for disposition; this building was slated for sale and demolition. Lyons' discovery of Civil War era artifacts on the 3rd floor, and his dogged efforts to establish their identity and importance, spared the property from the wrecking ball and directly led to the preservation of the space. The 7th St. location is not only important to the legacy of Clara Barton and her humanitarian work but also a last remaining example of a mid-1800's boarding house in the District of Columbia.
The Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office is now a museum operated by The National Museum of Civil War Medicine, and GSA has a preservation easement from the owner of the property to protect this piece of DC Civil War history in perpetuity.
A thorough retelling of the discovery by Richard Lyons and a video tour of the 7th St. space is provided here:

Home LED Lighting Services
Looking for LED Lighting for your home? Light Emitting Diodes are more commonly known as LED lightings. Their presence started in the 60s with uses limited mainly to tell time in an alarm clock or to indicate battery strength in instruments. Scientists didn’t seem to propel the usefulness of LED lightings forward until recently. Indeed LED lights have changed how the world is being lit. Today, they are the best light source for vehicle dashboards, tail lights, torch lights and also traffic lights. They have also great roles to play in the home, as in wall LED lights. Its adoption rate, however, hasn’t quite reached the level one would have expected considering the chunks of benefits it offers. As more people come to know of the goodness LED lightings can bring, this will surely change in due course.
LED lightings give off lights differently from conventional light sources. Compared to traditional lightings, they are silent and don’t emit the ceaseless humming that at times can be annoying. And that’s good because you are able to sleep soundly even when you need to keep the lights on. You will also find that LED lights and lamps are instantaneous to give full brightness when switched on, which you don’t find with fluorescents and some halogen lighting. Since LED lights also do not flicker, your reading session can also be more enjoyable without having to strain your eyes.
One can’t help but marvel at the cost performance of LED lights. Though they cost a little more to purchase, LED lightings are extremely lasting and yet cost lesser to operate. These means you can have considerable savings in terms of maintenance expenses and time. The lifespan of an LED light is about 48,000 hours. Assuming an 8 hour usage per day, you need not change your LED lights for a good 17 years, or more. When you compare this against the1,000 hours lifespan of an incandescent light bulb, or the 10,000 hours of fluorescents, it makes senses for one to want to make the switch. Being a low power sapper, LED lightings are so energy efficient that they consume up to 90% less power than traditional lights. That’s big savings on your electrical running costs.
Its lower power consumption advantage also allows the connection of various sets of LED lights to only one single power source. This is amazing as it means you will require lesser power sockets. You will have lesser drilled holes to your home and yet able to have more areas lit, and brightly. Yes, LED lights are unbelievably bright. They are 3 times brighter than normal lights, making them suitable for a great variety of applications.
Free from energy draining materials, LED lights convert energy effectively to light instead of heat, allowing them to operate coolly and safely in your home. It’s hard to come by the occasion whereby one has to replace blown LED bulbs.
Apart from costs benefits, LED lights also take care of your health and environments. Unlike traditional lights, LED lights do not contain toxins like mercury. Neither do they emit the harmful Ultraviolet rays to your skin. There will also be lesser carbon dioxide because of its lowly consumed energy nature. At the end of the day, it is also good to know that there will be lesser debris added to our living world as LED lights are just too lasting.
Increasingly, home LED lightings have penetrated the market and are being accepted as the norm for many people. You can find many options available besides just bulbs. There are many LED light fixtures that can both beautify your home and keep your energy bill low. Remember, they’re also safe and durable, and they are truly good to the environment

The led went out. This photo shows the size of the board and the dead transistor. This is taken from the screen of a video microscope, on a borrowed Kodak digital camera, whiich is why there are some strange reflections (fluorescent lights) in it.The transistor was easy to identify and obtain, an FMMT617.
