Spare Eurostar E300 Class 373 Power Car 3999 leads 9o32 1422 London St Pancras - Paris Nord, photographed at Ashford International on 27/10/2019
Caledonian Sleeper liveried 87002 'Royal Sovereign' leads the 1M11 2315 Glasgow Central and Edinburgh to London Euston 'Highlander' past Rugby, Warwickshire.
UP 7270 leads a merger special of empties at the west end of Rocky. They can go no further however, as if you look above the power you can see the rear DP units on a loaded coal train dropping down the Front Range to meet the UP 7270 at Rocky
NJT FP40-2CAT 4120 leads train 1153 out of Suffern and into Suffern Yard this afternoon, while GP40PH-2 4101 lays over after running on train 1109.
Its hard to believe that in 2020 you can still see F40PHs and 52 year old CNJ geeps meeting in revenue service.
BNSF 7128 leads an Erskine grain empty off the Hillsboro Sub and onto the Passenger Main in Grand Forks, ND as a grain truck flies overhead at 75mph on Interstate 29.
This shot has long been a favorite of mine as the timing happened to work out just right for an over-under that captures two of the ways that grain moves.
This scene has changed quite a bit in the almost-10 years since I took it. The two most prominent being G.F. Switch being re-named to US 29 Switch and the dwarf signal being removed. Based on Jackson Knudson's coverage of the area, it appears the dwarf signal went bye-bye in the summer of 2014.
This particular day of 'fanning was a gold banner-type of day. I ended up seeing 21 different trains and shooting a good majority of them throughout the day between Grand Forks and Lake Park, MN. This was Train # 3 in the parade. Here are a few more that I had uploaded previously:

What North Dakota and Minnesota lacked in scenery, they made up for in power. What a great era to have the privilege to document!
6006 leads the way down the hill to Michipcoton at the Highway 17 overpass in summer 1997. The towering stacks of the AOD sinter plant can be seen in the distance above the train.
69005 leads 3E11 12:39 Stowmarket D.G.L. to Whitemoor Yard L.D.C Gbrf return RHTT shakedown run back through Thurston, 19/09/24. 69012 was on the rear.
NR8-NR77-NR36 leads 6PM6 up PN Intermodal from Kewdale (Perth) to MFT (Sth Dynon - Melbourne), has already going through on the outskirt from Ararat, taken on Monday 30th December, 2024.
4520 leads FL220 into the loop at Bombo with an Australia Day special train to Bomaderry. In the loop they would cross a northbound NSW TrainLink service to Sydney, as well as an empty grain service from Bomaderry to Cootamundra.
CP SD30C-ECO #5020 leads 25 cars from Duluth to Stinson Yard, passing the empty field at 21st Street which used to house the Soo Line roundhouse. This was the second trip south through here through our neighborhod as this ECO already brought a transfer from 28th St. earlier in the morning.
Was hoping this transfer would have some intermodal as I haven't shot any trains with the containers out of Duluth. Only scrap loads and the CN boxcars today on the afternoon of March 23, 2019. Should be the last weekend with any sort of snow cover around here with temperatures inching towards 60 degrees today.
Power car 43010 leads a First Great Western Paddington to Penzance HST working into Lostwithiel.
This was the last train I photographed during a day in Cornwall while staying on a family self-catering holiday in Torquay. It is the only digital picture I have of this view, although I'd taken it more than once on film.
Back in my early years of digital photography I did not take a burst of shots, mainly because the frame rate was much slower than on my second digital camera. So I usually tried to concentrate on firing the shutter at exactly the right time... But on this one I fired marginally too late, and the shadow of the lamppost on the left was on the front of the train; it has been digitally removed. I did take three frames as the train arrived, autobracketing the exposure (because I could), but in the second the shadow from the tree on the left (visible in front of the train in this frame) was on the front, and in the third it was on the body side (plus the view of the signalbox was blocked).
Lostwithiel signalbox closed at the end of February 2024, with the semaphores being removed as part of the Mid-Cornwall resignalling scheme (which also saw Par and Truro boxes close). GWR (as First Great Western had become) stopped using full-length HSTs in May 2019, although the short "Castle Class" HSTs continue to operate in Cornwall in 2024.

The path of light leads you on superb journeys even after Sunset and with a little help from tall flora 6 Film Frames
The amount of light and wind was changing the landscape before me. The light was diminishing in illumination and expanding in tone. With some edits here are some samples of the wonders working their ways within my paths.
Tall Flora is not in every picture.

Conrail 6089 in EL colors leads an Eastbound Conrail freight on track 2 at the grade separation in Canaseraga, NY on June 24, 1978. There was a different SD45 that we were after this day, and we missed it. We learned from the Hornell dispatcher that N&W 1776 was leading an Eastbound D&H train, and it was by River Jct. We thought we could get to Canaseraga in time and catch it, so we drove to the bridge that went over the tracks and got out and waited. An SD45 did show up, but not the one we were expecting. Turns out that we somehow passed the N&W 1776 between Arkport and Canaseraga where there is a couple mile stretch where you can't see the tracks. When we got back to the dispatchers office in Hornell to inquire about the location of 1776, it was already passing through Corning.
1688 leads two other 40's on the daily Dilworth to Northtown freight. The train is in Fridley and is about to take the Material Yard Lead switch in less than a quarter mile to end its journey across Minnesota and terminate at Northtown Yard.
GM42 leads 832 and 961 (in its grubby "Explorer" colours) on empty grain train #737 through Dry Creek Station on Dec 30, 1994. In the background a 350 class diesel shunter is locked away in the Steamranger compound and a pair of “Mickey Mouse” ears loom over the rear locos pretending to be signals!

I had 2 shoots since this one; as soon as I'm finished editing the photos, I will get on putting together a stop motion from this day.
43076 leads 1B43 12.45 Nottingham - St. Pancras International through Barrow-on-Soar. The rear power car is 43059.
I'd come here for a "test train" with Colas 37s, but that passed in the dull. However, shots of HSTs on the Midland Main Line are now history (and I haven't uploaded a shot of an East Midlands Trains-liveried one here), but almost four years later Colas 37s are still common.

37800 leads 375913 through Bilting with the 5Q57 1713 Ramsgate EMUD - Derby Litchurch Lane stock move for repainting on 10th June 17...expecting this to run via Dover as per the departure path nearly caught me out with a big detour around Kent only falling in back here with a few minutes to spare...!
When a number of VL class locos were in hire to GWA, VL360 leads FQ03 on 2DA2 at Bowmans on 25-11-09
IAIS 500 leads CBBI-20 over BNSF's Crescent Bridge into Rock Island, IL. The Dri-Line completed the Mississippi River crossing in 1898.
The IAIS has a week-long curfew to replace the decking on the bridge over the Sylvan Slough between Rock Island and the Rock Island Arsenal, so all IAIS movements are detouring via the Crescent Bridge.
October 21, 2014.
57307 leads 390007 across the Clwyd Estuary at Rhyl, in charge of the 0850 London Euston-Holyhead, 9 January 2010. This is the highlight of the week up here. Sad, isn't it?
UP9553 leads units 6114 and SP 109 on APOA6 through Serpentine Canyon, CA on the Feather River route on 17.10.95, the river being in shadow as it was late afternoon
A Charger leads Amtrak Train No. 311, the "Missouri River Runner", through Sheffield on Main Track 1 of the KCT East-West Corridor heading for Kansas City's Union Station. After arriving and passengers have been dropped off, the train will wye at BN Interlocking, arrive back to KCUS to be recrewed, and passengers will board again as the train returns east to St. Louis as Amtrak No. 316. 1/19/25.
VIA 909 leads a train of goofy looking European coaches on an eastbound train past the Gare Cedar Park EXO station. I hope to revisit here one day when the trees are full to add some color instead of the stick season that was in full force.
Loaded SSR wheat train from western Victoria to Maldon is making its way around Goondah Curve with locos 4532, 4917, 4911 and CLP12.
43160 leads 1C82 14:34 Taunton to Paignton past Hollicombe on Sunday 12th June 2022. 43097 on the rear. The Castle set was standing in for the booked IET due to a shortage of train crew
43051 leads 1C21 08.28 Leeds - London St Pancras down grade through Souldrop.
The Midland Mainline Teal green was just beginning to be replaced by the blue livery at this time.
43051 is now working on the ECML as part of the VTEC fleet renumbered to 43251.

NS 1039 leads the third SD70ACe westbound of the day at Dawson, with the Southern Railway heritage unit trailing. Note the orange ICG "heritage" hi-cube boxcar right behind the power. There is also a black Norfolk & Western 60-foot hi-cube boxcar eight cars deep in the train.

66721 leads a rake of new FEA wagons from Dollands Moor to Peterborough, with 66707 on the rear.
The Class 66 is painted in a special livery (dating back to 2013), marking the 150th Anniversary of London Underground.
New Haven Railroad EP-3 motor 0360 leads a REA-bagggage & mail express train through Sunnyside Yard in Queens, New York, 5-26-1937. You can see the engineer in the cab of the motor. In this area the train is powered by third rail and you can that the pantographs are down on the motor. The actual Sunnyside Yard is located on the right on a lower level area. Much of this area also has catenary installed. The string of heavyweight cars to the right are most likely PRR equipment.

86627 leads a quartet of 86's through Belstead on 23rd March 2020. Due to engineering works along the GEML at weekends, 4L89 is used to move an additional pair of Cans to Ipswich on Monday's.
Cross Country 43008 leads HST set XC02 and classmate 43007 south towards Milford Tunnel with 1V50 Edinburgh Waverley - Plymouth. Both power cars came out last month sporting retro BR liveries to mark the end of HST's being in squadron service with the operator.
I've never really been that fussed with HST's, with them being a bit out of my area I have rarely recorded them in passenger service. After not bothering when other TOC's in the past have withdrawn them I thought it would be a smart move to make the effort to record one whilst I still can.
Luck was in with the weather and even with retro 008/007 being allocated for this turn... It was a no brainer. Inspired by a few others on flickr who have nailed this shot, I headed here to join the rather substantial gallery of around 20 people. A very enjoyable morning all round, well worth the drive down!

CP 8822 leads the lengthy daily manifest between Saskatoon, SK and Saint Paul, MN through Thief River Falls on the former Soo Line's route between Winnipeg and Glenwood. The train's length comprised 664 axles and a length of 10,282 feet. Apparently its counterpart, 241, was 800 axles and 11,898 feet; some of which was empty grain hoppers destined for Thief River Falls which cut down on the length. I caught up with 241 later in the day.
Penn Central ex New Haven Railroad GE EP-5 motor # 371 leads a passenger train around a curve while entering the station on platform track at Glenbrook, Connecticut, 1970. As you can see motor # 371 is really in need of a paint job at this time and perhaps it will receive the PC black paint scheme. The catenary support structures are of the arched design in this area of the electrified main line system. At this location one of the typical hairpin fences separates the tracks that operate in the opposite direction. Also interesting is that the forward pantograph is being used because it appears that the rear pantograph may be missing. Bob Hughes took this photo.
