Class 47 D1924 leads the "Portsmouth Harbour Statesman" past Potbridge. The train is a Doncaster to Portsmouth dining excursion. 47593 "Galloway Princess" is on the rear. This was part of a very productive half hour, with three interesting workings due to pass this spot.
Locomotive: Brush Type 4 Class 47/4 D1924/47810 "Crewe Diesel Depot".
Location: Totters Lane, Potbridge, between Winchfield and Hook, Hampshire.
UP 4193 leads "The Bird" past Nelson,IL Eastbound toward Chicago.
This is Train ZSCG1, a Hot Shot priority from Salt Lake City,UT to Global 1 at Chicago,IL. There are two different "Bird" operations East and West. One is the Salt Lake City - Chicago and the other is the Portland, OR - Chicago with reverse operations also known as the "Bird" between these
terminals.
Leads a couple of container flats and 66749 through Luffenham on 4L20 from Hams Hall to Pterborough Virtual Quarry
76026 leads 76007 eastward at Torside with a train of empty MGR coal hoppers heading back to the Yorkshire coalfield, 20th February 1981.
Locomotive History
76026 was originally E26026 and was built at Gorton works with electrical equipment provided by Metropolitan Vickers. It entered traffic in March 1951 and was one of the class to be fitted with dual brakes for operating with modern air braked wagons. It survived until the end of the Woodhead route in July 1981 and was broken up at CF Booth Rotherham in July 1983. 76007 entered traffic in June 1951 as E26007 and like 76026 was withdrawn in July 1981 and broken up at CF Booth Rotherham in June 1983.

CP 4008 leads H20 out of Frontenac after being overtaken by the eastbound Empire Builder.
The 4008 was destroyed in a nasty runaway incident near Montpelier, Iowa on June 29, 2024. Fortunately, both crew members survived.
90019 'Multimodal' leads 3 class 325 EMUs past Lower Hatton while working 1s96, the 1605 Willesden (London) to Shieldmuir (Glasgow).
During the summer of 2019 mail trains were diverted from the west coast route to avoid engineering work at Acton Grange Junction. Although the diversionary route via Manchester's Castlefield corridor and the Chat Moss line was electrified, paperwork issues prevented the mail units from operating under their own power, requiring them to be dragged by class 90 locomotives.
Mail trains operated on the west coast route from its opening. As has been well documented, dedicated mail trains in the UK ceased in September 2024.

BR Large Logo 37025 'Inverness TMD' leads the 3Z36 1535 Rhymney Sidings to Cardiff Canton Sidings driver training run into Cardiff Central.
NS 7674 leads a priority intermodal train south over the massive Ohio River bridge at Kenova, WV. That house on the Ohio side (just off the nose) definitely has to have the best view of the NS action!
43303 leads XC04 along the sea wall at Coastguard Cottages, Dawlish as 1V44 06:11 Leeds to Plymouth. Tuesday 15th November 2022.
The Arrochar Alps from Conic Hill above Balmaha. The slightly jaggy peak, just left of centre, is Ben Arthur or The Cobbler. It might not be a munro but it's a very good walk with a twist. To get to the centre peak summit, you have to pass through a small opening in the rock that leads to a narrow ledge over a 150' vertigo inspiring drop. Once on the ledge an awkward sloping ramp leads to a final step onto the flat summit rock - on which few choose to stand upright. Yes, I have been there and stood on the top of it.
37116 leads a DIT 37219 running 30 late past Hest Bank after 37219 was throwing smoke just south of Preston.
On Thursday 26/9/2024, a lightly loaded 5XM1 (Aurizon loading shuttle) is seen approaching Gawler River road (between Two Wells-Virginia, SA) with CLP16-6054 in charge.
BNSF 296 leads a loaded rail train north through Colorado Springs, CO.
I just happened to spot this guy out of the blue while I was passing by downtown, and, when one is presented with a H4 SD75, one must shoot it, so iPhone to the rescue! Even though the shiny newness of these units has started to fade, these things still look spectacular in H4 paint.
Looking back, the last time I shot a SD75I was almost nine and a half years ago, which, incidentally, was not too far from where I shot this guy:

4009 leads the southbound coal train through the sweeping curve at Brookman. When export coal was running this train was usually a 7 Am departure 3 days a week. It ran as 75 loads in a 3+3+1 configuration to combat two climbs of 3%.
67024 leads the Pullman stock, with 67005 on the rear as 5Z39 1245 Liverpool South Parkway to Warrington Arpley passes Crosfields on 15th April 2023.
For the second year running for the purposes of servicing, the Belmond Pullman stock traversed the Warrington Low Level line via Fiddlers Ferry after depositing its passengers at Liverpool South Parkway for onward transit to the Grand National at Aintree.
Crosfields signal box which closed in 2012 still remains in the background. The crossing is monitored by CCTV from Monks Sidings.

This path leads towards Taw Marsh. Steeperton Tor can been seen ahead.

Hanson & Hall Rail Services English Electric Type 4 50008 'Thunderer' leads 'The Merry Wherry' 1Z70 0648 Derby to Lowestoft railtour towards March. Classmate GBRF 50007 'Hercules' was at the rear of the formation. The tour marking the first time Class 50s have reached the most easterly point in the UK, Lowestoft.
90034 leads 92036 'Bertolt Brecht' past Milton Malsor on the 0A06 1332 Crewe T.M.D. (E) to DB Cargo Fan A And B Sdgs, in the final few minutes of daylight.
92036 is the first 92 to travel along any part of the WCML in 2023 as, due to New Years Day and the bank holiday, the Caledonian Sleeper has yet to run this year. Also of note is the new OHLE masts which have appeared over the last week, presumably in preparation for the rail connection to Northampton Gateway.
Just over a month later in February 2023, 90034 was placed into storage at Crewe IEMD.

43257 leads the 1904 St Pancras to Nottingham service past the rapeseed fields of Milton Earnest.
The HSTs were in the last few weeks of their 40 year reign on this, the Midland mainline route from London to the East Midlands and Yorkshire.
By this time the HSTs we're relegated to a small number of workings, which on weekdays shuttled between London and Nottingham.
With no further passenger work for these HSTs being likely, the scrapyard seemed a likely next destination. However, this was not to be and several of the locomotives, including this one, are operated in 2023 by Colas as traction for test trains.

56105 leads 3S14 11.38 Grimsby Town - York Works railhead treatment train, approaching New Barnetby. 66848 is on the rear. [Pole, 5/6 sections {~6.8m)]
This leg of the day's circuit first heads to Halifax (via Skellow, Wakefield Kirkgate and Mirfield), then returns to Wakefield Kirkgate (reverse) to run to Sheffield via Barnsley, and finally returns to York via Barnsley, Wakefield Kirkgate and Castleford. Incidentally, this train set off from Grimsby still showing as 3S13 on signalling maps, and therefore some reports for 3S13 on Realtime Trains have incorrect times; they are actually the times 3S14 went past, and 3S14 has lots of "no report" entries!
56105 was standing in for 66847 which had been sent for tyre turning; this was its third day working with 66848 and these wagons, but the loco is noticeably dirtier (on this side, at least) than when I'd photographed it closer to the background bridge two days previously (see here).
I'd originally planned to come to this spot on that previous occasion, but had spotted a group closer to the lime works and thought the sun might not have been lighting the front of the loco quite as well here - but I was wrong. So I decided to have another go, this location allowing a higher vantage point because you are not stood quite as much below track level. It was either come here or go to Scunthorpe, but I wanted to go north of the Humber for 3J51 (with 37s) and going to Scunthorpe would have risked missing it before its reversal at Hull (because I would have set off about twenty minutes later and had a longer drive).

SD40-3 #4010 leads Y106 under the signal cantilever at Pleasant St on their way east to work various industries. Some of the skyline of downtown Grand Rapids can be seen behind the US 131 bridge. Long ago, the PRR and NYC crossed the Pere Marquette at grade (roughly where the overpass is) here, and the PM also diverged to the right, all 3 lines converging at Union Station. After the station was closed and demolished in the 1960s, the tracks through downtown were gradually torn up, the Conrail main finally coming out in 1983. The track at the far right is the lead to the Amtrak station that was constructed in 2014, partially following the old ROW to GRUS.

66428 leads 3S01 RHTT along the Berney Arms section at Breydon Junction on Sunday 25th October 2020. With nearly an hour wait at Great Yarmouth for an available path along the single track section, the schedule provides enough time to walk along the Werryman's Way towards Breydon Junction to capture this shot.
This trail leads from the park entrance (the only land access to the Kenai Fjords National Park) along the meltwater river and up to the face of the glacier. There are signs along the trail marking where the face was at various times. This is taken from a point just past where it was in 1917. So where I'm standing and everything in this shot was under over 100 feet (33m) of ice only 100 years ago. Something to contemplate. We did not stand here too long though, as we were being attacked by kamikazi mosquitoes, which of course are the Alaska State Bird.
SP 9793 leads a wild consist that includes an Amtrak F40PH and a Montana Rail Link SD40. The train is headed south on Union Pacific's Lufkin Sub, at the crossing with BNSF's Conroe Sub in Cleveland, TX. A little over a year had passed since Southern Pacific was merged with Union Pacific, yet widespread service issues remained. During this time of transition, the railroad was chronically short of power and crews. Amtrak F40PHs were leased and pressed into freight service. The MRL SD40 was most likely leased for this reason as well.

67027 leads a Network Rail test train through the picturesque station at Bath Spa. 67023 was bringing up the rear. I came very close to being bowled by a pigeon who saw me crouching down and thought there was food on offer!
ST70AH #8900 leads an SD40-2 and an SD40-3 past the searchlights at Haddix Road with L303 bound for Detroit. With new Safetrans signals piling up at different spots along the Plymouth Sub, these relics don't have much time left.

An SD70ACe-T4 leads UP train MDMNL-21 down Main Track 2 of the UP KC Metro Sub at 12th St heading to Leeds for a crew change.
To the left is the former site of Ford Assembly Plant at 10th and Winchester, which began construction in 1909 and finished two years later in 1911. This was the first Ford plant built outside of Detroit.
Ford later opened up a new plant within the Kansas City area at Claycomo, MO, which opened its doors in 1951 for military production. Eventually, consumer vehicles were then produced at the newer Claycomo plant beginning in January of 1957, and by the end of December of 1956, production ceased at the original Winchester plant.
The twin smokestacks with "Ford" in-laid on the bricks still remain standing here, serving as a reminder of a bit of Kansas City history. 12/21/24.

E43112 leads W43006 on the approaches to Fitzwilliam with "The West Riding Limited - HST Farewell Tour" - 1Z43 11:01 Leeds to London Kings Cross. 21/12/2019. Not the best of spots but I couldn't think of anywhere else that would enable me to get to the steam afterwards. As it was, my intended position on Fitz station was crap, so thanks to www.flickr.com/photos/driff_tiger/ for helping me find this location. Good job I took me steps!
NS AC446CM 4404 leads a C44-9W around the curve after crossing the Wabash River at Attica, IN. The track that looks like it is jumping off the face of the earth is the one-time Wabash Covington Branch, now used to connect a grain elevator on the south edge of town. The track makes a connection to the fabled Chicago, Attica & Southern for most of the route to elevator, including passing the C&EI/CA&S depot and middle of the street running. The 4404 was rebuilt by Wabtec/GE (Ft. Worth, TX earlier this year from C44-9W 9220.

43014 leads the NMT seen here at Watford village working a Derby-Chaddesden train, which also ran on the Northampton loop to Northampton and back.

BNSF 6758 leads a grain train south (railroad east) along the Mississippi River on a nice April morning a few years back. This is the northerly view from the overlook at Mississippi Palisades State Park just a little north of Savanna, IL - a nice place to spent a few hours in the sunshine on a cool spring morning.
