BNSF 5155 leads 6 other units on a southboundmerchandise train at Spruce, CO, on Jan 6, 2022. This was no doubt a power move as the train was relatively short.
Heading Eastbound between Norborne and Carrollton, the BNSF 3865 leads empty Frac Sand train U LNCEOC0 30 on Main #2.
Buffered 43080 leads on what is believed to be 1S71, the 07:21 Penzance to Glasgow on 24th September 2001. The location is an old quarry at Winterbourne, a mile out of Bristol Parkway which was a popular spot at the time. Unfortunately the line has now been wired and trees have taken over.
43080 started life in Feb 1978 as E43080, part of East Coast set 254013. It eventually became one of 8 to be fitted with buffers and DVT equipment to work with Class 91's and Mk3 HST coaches whilst the DVT and Mk 4's were built. Next was Cross Country for Virgin trains and then after a period in store the Crewe built power car was re-engined and renumbered to 43480 working for Grand Central. After their HST's were replaced with Adelante's it then had a short spell with East Midlands Trains before moving over to Rail Adventure for use in stock moves.

SP 7673 leads a Kyle GP40 and two 6 axle units on Beaumont Pass, unfortunately my memory fails me as to where this is exactly. It seems to me this is a westbound near the top of the grade and beginning its downward descent to Colton and points west. I haven’t been here in more than 20 years so it is a bit fuzzy so feel free to chime in if you have a more accurate location.
RBMN #3051 leads the NRFF underneath the former CNJ signal bridge at the south end of Penobscot Yard as it begins the downward descent towards Pittston.
The Lehigh Valley shifted its mainline traffic to CNJ rails between White Haven and Laurel Run after a joint agreement with the cash-strapped Jersey Central in 1965. By 1972, the CNJ had pulled out of Pennsylvania entirely, and the Lehigh Valley assumed control of most of the remaining properties.
66428 leads 3S01 RHTT along the Berney Arms section at Breydon Junction on Sunday 25th October 2020. With nearly an hour wait at Great Yarmouth for an available path along the single track section, the schedule provides enough time to walk along the Werryman's Way towards Breydon Junction to capture this shot.
LTEX 95 leads RUPO as they cross the Androscoggin, just starting to slow from 25 for the 10 mph restriction at Court Street in Auburn. They left Livermore Falls just after 12:30, but problems with both their engines, and receiver set them back quite a bit, resulting in this shot with just enough light for a successful pan. Note the missing dynamic brake fan on the 95, the only external clue to its lack of dynamic brakes.
An SD70ACe-T4 leads UP train MDMNL-21 down Main Track 2 of the UP KC Metro Sub at 12th St heading to Leeds for a crew change.
To the left is the former site of Ford Assembly Plant at 10th and Winchester, which began construction in 1909 and finished two years later in 1911. This was the first Ford plant built outside of Detroit.
Ford later opened up a new plant within the Kansas City area at Claycomo, MO, which opened its doors in 1951 for military production. Eventually, consumer vehicles were then produced at the newer Claycomo plant beginning in January of 1957, and by the end of December of 1956, production ceased at the original Winchester plant.
The twin smokestacks with "Ford" in-laid on the bricks still remain standing here, serving as a reminder of a bit of Kansas City history. 12/21/24.
A four-pack of Norfolk Southern GP60s leads 212 east through New Market. The engineer has strategically placed pieces of a newspaper's comics section to block the early morning sun. This was shortly before the second track was reinstalled between CP Potter and CP Bound Brook on the Lehigh Line. It was also a time when EMD and GE standard cab four-axle units still regularly held down "hotshot" assignments such as 212.

37610 leads 1Qxx 0233 Neville Hill-Derby RTC into it's destination on 16/02/19. 37219 is on the rear.
ST70AH #8900 leads an SD40-2 and an SD40-3 past the searchlights at Haddix Road with L303 bound for Detroit. With new Safetrans signals piling up at different spots along the Plymouth Sub, these relics don't have much time left.

CSXT 2502 leads what I believe was the J731 southbound through Enfield, IL. Back then it was a one train a day operation. Northbound (geographically west) out of Evansville, IN as far as needed and then back to Evansville the next day. This was once the L&N mainline to St. Louis but was downgraded and truncated to New Memphis, IL and then later to Okawville, IL by CSX . The line was then leased to Evansville Western and traffic has picked up substantially since then with the construction of the 12.6 mile spur to the Sugar Camp mine near Akin, IL. and the opening of the White Oak mine near Delafield, IL. along with additional coal traffic interchanged from the NS at Mt. Vernon, IL. The current EVWR local train MCL based out of Mcleansboro is the replacement for the train pictured. Kodachrome Slide scan.
KBS 702 leads a southbound KBS train through the heart of downtown Sheldon, Illinois. The heritage of the line is really showing as the 702 passes the NYC G Head and old code line. The small town of a little over 1,000 people is host to where the old NYC crossed the PRR, now KBS and TPW.
CP 8509 leads a southbound manifest freight towards Hinkle Yard crossing the magnificent Josso Viaduct over the Snake River.

UP 8446 leads an impressive lashup of 8 EMDs as it makes its way south with the MNYPU (North Yard (Denver), CO - Pueblo, CO) near Fountain, CO.
The rear 5 units are SD9043MACs on their way to storage in Pueblo. I'm not the biggest UP fan on the planet (ask Wes Greer), but it's hard to pass up 8 EMDs, especially when the lead unit is an ACe. All I had with me was my iPhone, so I had to make due...
SD40-3 #4010 leads Y106 under the signal cantilever at Pleasant St on their way east to work various industries. Some of the skyline of downtown Grand Rapids can be seen behind the US 131 bridge. Long ago, the PRR and NYC crossed the Pere Marquette at grade (roughly where the overpass is) here, and the PM also diverged to the right, all 3 lines converging at Union Station. After the station was closed and demolished in the 1960s, the tracks through downtown were gradually torn up, the Conrail main finally coming out in 1983. The track at the far right is the lead to the Amtrak station that was constructed in 2014, partially following the old ROW to GRUS.

UP has done something good for once something I thought I would never see UP allowed BNSF run without UP leaders or ATC BNSF 7885 leads the way through Watkins
Canadian Pacific 2816 leads the CPKC Final Spike Anniversary Steam Tour through the farmlands near the community of Neosho, Missouri as it continues its journey south toward an overnight stay at Heavener, Oklahoma.
WLE SD40-3 3049 leads WLE SD40-2 7355 and their empty CSX K388-27 coke train westbound on the CSX Detroit Sub. The train is passing under the PM Searchlights at Stark approaching the intermediates at Levan and then eventually southbound on the Saginaw Sub towards Toledo and eventually Willard where the train would be handed over the to WLE. The empties would come out of Detroit Rougemere Yard and would cycle the WLE power that came in on the loaded K389. These trains ran with WLE runthrough power and even though it was short lived, it was something that made history in MI. Only if I knew what I know now about signal shots...
Amtrak 642 leads the Crescent west on the former PRR main through Elizabeth, coming off the straightaway from Newark and crossing over what was the C&NJ mainline to Elizabethport a few car lengths back.

Amtk ACS-64 #642 "Honoring our Veterans"
UP ES44AC no. 5467 leads the LMC40 back to Topeka from Lawrence on January 22nd. This is at MP 65 on the Kansas Sub, which is just west of Calhoun Bluffs, and along the Kansas River levee. I can't imagine how fun it is to run this thing backwards for the 30 mile trip back home.
Interestingly, the unit is equipped with removable ditch lights on this end, which allows them to run at track speed. However, as was pointed out the first time I posted a shot like this, these lights apparently burn out easily, as is nicely demonstrated here.
BNSF #9709 leads an ACe and a big train of booze and empty booze ingredients out of Miller Coors in Golden on a beautiful summer morning. Part of North Table Mountain can be seen over the conductor's side of the cab. Mount Galbraith looms in the background as well.

This path leads me around a very uninviting, frost covered, cold steel bench on the Logan River trail. Not a place to sit when the temperature is about 15F.
4009 leads the southbound coal train through the sweeping curve at Brookman. When export coal was running this train was usually a 7 Am departure 3 days a week. It ran as 75 loads in a 3+3+1 configuration to combat two climbs of 3%.
Kodachrome 2662 leads a Soo Line leasor on eastbound train #730 as they head onto the ex-AC&Y line.
This was one of the best day's I've ever had railfanning the Wheeling, but one never knows what's ahead, as this day turned out to be my last road trip with the Dodge Intrepid. Heading home after dark, out of New London on SR 162, I had a nasty encounter with "Bambi". Given all the driving I've done and countless close calls, I'm very blessed and thankful that remains my only direct hit!
A recently-washed P40 leads southbound CTrail train 6401 into the station at Wallingford. 6709 is one of a group of four P40s that CDOT purchased from New Jersey Transit and it recently returned from being rebuilt by Amtrak.
BNSF 5891 leads a train southbound at Larkspur, CO, crossing the old Santa Fe bridge. This location has been a railfan favorate for many years. Dec 4, 2020.
Amtrak P42DC 19 leads an F40PH out of town on the former CB&Q Racetrack, which had recently become BNSF, Chicago IL Feb 1997. Number 19 is less than a year old, delivered the previous October.
BNSF 296 leads a loaded rail train north through Colorado Springs, CO.
I just happened to spot this guy out of the blue while I was passing by downtown, and, when one is presented with a H4 SD75, one must shoot it, so iPhone to the rescue! Even though the shiny newness of these units has started to fade, these things still look spectacular in H4 paint.
Looking back, the last time I shot a SD75I was almost nine and a half years ago, which, incidentally, was not too far from where I shot this guy:

As long as BNSF continues to send these suckers up and down the Joint Line, I will continue to shoot them...
NS AC446CM 4404 leads a C44-9W around the curve after crossing the Wabash River at Attica, IN. The track that looks like it is jumping off the face of the earth is the one-time Wabash Covington Branch, now used to connect a grain elevator on the south edge of town. The track makes a connection to the fabled Chicago, Attica & Southern for most of the route to elevator, including passing the C&EI/CA&S depot and middle of the street running. The 4404 was rebuilt by Wabtec/GE (Ft. Worth, TX earlier this year from C44-9W 9220.

An SD70M leads UP train MTPNS-10 up to 10th St. on the Outbound as it arrives at NS's Avondale Yard with interchange traffic. A pair of BNSF Geep's can be seen on the right at their 10th St. Yard. To the left is the KAW Bedford Yard.
This train operates out of Topeka, KS to the NS in North Kansas City, MO, and the power usually returns light back to UP's 18th St. Yard, sometimes Neff Yard. This train began running a little over a decade ago bringing NS-bound traffic out of Topeka as a way to relieve congestion in Kansas City. Upon yarding at NS's Avondale Yard, the power would return light to Topeka, all within 12 hours most of the time. In recent years with PSR, this train doesn't even always make to the NS with the same crew, the power goes wherever they want it, and sometimes they'll work 18th St Yard along the way across town. 5/11/25.
IC 1019 leads two other SD70s through Sandy Junction (formerly KO Junction) on May 1, 2015.
This was my first day of being done classes for the semester before returning to work and it was a great day.
Note the "BLE" in the IC Deathstar.
OC 3307 leads a high and wide move passed some OC power in Blacklick. With the crew of about 6 men being very friendly and the train limited to 10-15 mph out of Columbus, it made for an enjoyable and easy chase east.
UP 4193 leads "The Bird" past Nelson,IL Eastbound toward Chicago.
This is Train ZSCG1, a Hot Shot priority from Salt Lake City,UT to Global 1 at Chicago,IL. There are two different "Bird" operations East and West. One is the Salt Lake City - Chicago and the other is the Portland, OR - Chicago with reverse operations also known as the "Bird" between these
terminals.
