Brutus Buckeye leads the first lap of the annual Goshen Lane Elementary School Walk-a-Thon Friday, September 30, 2011 on a field at the school. Brutus was treated like a rock star before the start of the walk-a-thon at the Gahanna school, touring classrooms and appearing at an assembly all the while receiving screams of delight and high-fives from the children. The walk-a-thon is an annual fundraiser hosted by the school's PTA. (EDITOR'S NOTE: I found out about this event because my wife is in the PTA and my son goes to this school. The event brought together key stakeholders for the USDA Center for Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, USDA leadership, and others to a panel discussion with partner organizations and a networking reception.
This was the second year that the USDA hosted a Jewish American Heritage Month Celebration, bringing together faith leaders, USDA representatives, and community members together to celebrate religious pluralism. The celebration was hosted by the USDA Center for Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships and is part of a long running strategic collaboration with several non-governmental organizations and provides an opportunity to celebrate and develop new partnerships with Jewish American organizations in agriculture and food systems.
