Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Refole Silver leads a group of children in lighting a public menorah placed by Chabad-Lubavitch in Willemstad, Curacao, on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, the 7th night of the eight-day holiday of Hanukkah. The menorah is part of Chabad-Lubavitch's worldwide Hanukkah awareness campaign that includes 15,000 large public menorahs in more than 100 countries around the world, including in front of landmarks such as the White House, the Eiffel Tower, and in Trafalgar Square in London. The campaign was launched in 1973 by the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, the most influential rabbi in modern history, forever altering the awareness and practice of the festival. This year’s public lighting carries added significance as it marks 50 years since the first public menorah which was lit at the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia in 1974. Today, public menorahs and Hanukkah displays have become a staple of Jewish cultural and American public life.

Chabad-Lubavitch’s Hanukkah campaign will reach 8 million Jews in more than 100 countries this year.

DL39 (second to NR28) leads half a consist of the Indian Pacific into Sydney as the passengers that have been on the train for atleast three days disembark apon arrival.

When this train is 'double consist' (mainly due to the holiday season), the second loco hauling the train (which is normally a DL Class from Adelaide) takes the first half with in into Platform 3 at Sydney Terminal, with the leading NR Class loco taking the second half into Platform 2.
