Quando avevo vent'anni (o giù di lì) nella seconda metà dei lontanissimi anni Sessanta del secolo scorso, le ho scalate entrambe. Non ho foto di quelle magnifiche avventure (all'epoca non possedevo ancora una macchina fotografica), ma la loro esperienza rimane stampata per sempre nella mia memoria. Questa foto (una diapositiva recuperata con lo scanner, e resa in bianco e nero perché i colori erano ormai irrimediabilmente alterati) risale a oltre dieci anni dopo, durante una delle mie vacanze estive ad Arolla (settembre 1978).

When I was twenty (or thereabouts) in the second half of the distant sixties of the last century, I climbed both. I don't have photos of those magnificent adventures (I didn't own a camera at the time), but their experience remains forever etched in my memory. This photo (a slide recovered with the scanner, and rendered in black and white because the colors were now irremediably altered) dates back to over ten years later, during one of my summer holidays in Arolla (September 1978).

Erithacus rubecula - European Robin
À la mauvaise saison, il se tourne volontiers vers les petits fruits charnus tels que les baies de divers arbustes fructifères comme les ifs, les genévriers, les cotonéasters et autres sorbiers. Il peut également consommer de petites graines, voire des restes alimentaires en milieu habité.

Véronique a presque fini sa peinture à la coquille d'oeuf. Nous terminerons la semaine prochaine avec un peu de cire à dorer sur le carrosse pour lui donner un aspect encore plus magique.

J'aime beaucoup cette photo pour le contraste des gens fatigués et assis au dynamisme des personnages de l'affiche.
Le Bugue has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In 964 a Benedictine monastery was founded in Le Bugue under the name of Saint Marcel and Saint Salvador.The monastery had disappeared by the late 19th century.
Le Bugue enjoyed a period of prosperity until 1154, when the province of Périgord came under English control. Le Bugue was often disputed between British troops and those of the King of France, and therefore suffered greatly.
One of the most important dates in the history of Le Bugue is November 1319, when the King of France, Philippe Le Long, ordered by deed that the market be perpetually held on Tuesday. This act is still presently in force.
Le Bugue was a quiet commercial town until the French Revolution. However, it endured some fratricidal struggles between the lords of Limeuil and Fleurac.
The end of the 19th century was marked by the construction of the local bridge and the arrival of the railroad (the line between Périgueux and Agen).
Le Bugue owes part of its fame to the chemist and physician Jean Rey who discovered the Law of Conservation of Mass 200 years before Lavoisier. Jean Rey also invented the "Thermoscope", the forerunner of the modern thermometer.

Le Cygne, or The Swan, is the thirteenth movement of The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-SaÎns.
Le cygne is often referred to as The Dying Swan, made famous and 'interpreted' like this by Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova.
This piece features a solo cello (my favourite instrument) in tenor key (clef) and two pianos.
I passionately hate the idea of being with it, I think an artist has always to be out of step with his time.

Envie de prendre notre temps, pour une fois.
Et ne pas faire le Sud sauvage en courant.
Un stop à l'hôtel du Baril s'impose dans ce cas.
L'océan est plutôt calme depuis quelque temps.
Mais pas ici.
L'hôtel doit être situé sur une ancienne coulée de lave qui s'enfonce dans la mer.
Les éléments s'y rencontrent avec violence.
Pour dormir la tête dans les vagues il n'y a pas mieux.
Après avoir bien entendu gouté au rhum arrangé, et aux divers carry proposés au restau.
