Seee how messy the kitchen is now. Too much stuff on the counter. The hydrangeas were a gift from my brother for my myomectomy on September 20th. They are still alive and beautiful.
Little baby Scorpie helped Sarah make cookies today. And he didn't even have any arms chopped off in the process!

Along the themes of memory and preservation of history, this set of images are of the Air Training Corps squadron local to me in Portsmouth.
1189 Squadron was a very large part of my life for over 5 years where I was an Air Cadet. I hold my time there responsible for many of the attributes I carry with me today as an adult and feel they made me the man I am today.
These aspects included; self respect, time management, confidence, abilities to handle pressure and presentation abilities. This is amongst very simple things such as how to iron a shirt or a pair of trousers or how to polish a pair of shoes to the point of seeing your face.
I recently learned that, in early 2016, the unit will be leaving the building they've occupied for over 15 years. While this is sad for what the building stands for I am relieved that they get to continue doing the great work they do with many more generations.
To the unaware a lot of the images won't mean anything at all but to those who have passed through here over the years they mean everything. Whether it's something as simple as the kitchen sink where I remember spending many a shift as 'duty cadet' washing up or the band store with instruments that have been used by literally multiple generations.
1189 Squadron lives on and are recruiting all the time for cadets and staff so please do find out more or simply ask for more information.
Most of the suites have a full kitchen which include a stove top, an oven, a microwave, a sink, and a fridge. Some of the kitchens had freezers as well but not all of them. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of pots, pans, dishes. etc. However, I would recommend buying some Tupperware when you come. There is a Farmers Market every Monday where you can purchase fresh fruits and vegetables very cheap. There are also multiple grocery stores right by campus where you can find anything else you may need. I would definitely suggest buying some cheese! It is so good here!

Students at the Royalton-Hartland School District High School work on their cooking skills in the village of Middleport, eastern Niagara County, NY, on May 25, 2022. Royalton-Hartland School District has approximately 1,300 K-12 students. The district received a U.S. Department of Agriculture USDA Food and Nutrition Service FNS Farm to School Implementation grant in FY 2021. The grant provides engaging, hands-on programming that promotes a healthy lifestyle, increases student knowledge of how to grow, prepare, and store fresh produce, and exposes students to many career opportunities in the growing local agriculture industry. In collaboration with district partners, including Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County, Blackman Family Farms, and the Royalton-Hartland Agriculture Foundation, Royalton-Hartland School District is in the process of developing a K-12 curriculum, engaging teachers in the integration of the farm-to-school vision on a district-wide basis, equipping kitchen facilities to increase the capacity to store, prepare and serve locally sourced foods, and upgrading classrooms for project-based learning experiences. Kitchener Memorial, Marwick Head, Orkney
In June 1916, Lord Kitchener was dispatched on a diplomatic mission to Russia. Russia's military campaign was going badly on the Eastern Front, and there were concerns among the Allies that Russia would pull out of the war altogether.
Kitchener and his staff sailed to Archangel from Scapa Flow in Orkney aboard the HMS Hampshire, whixch had just survived the Battle of Jutland. Shortly after getting underway, on the 5th June 1916,the Hampshire found herself steering into the teeth of a Force 9 gale. To avoid the battering of the elements, the captain steered the ship as close to the north west coast of the Orkney mainland as he could. This action was to prove disastrous as the Hampshire was destroyed.
She had struck one of several mines laid by the German minelaying submarine U-75 on 28/29 May 1916. The detonation had holed the cruiser between bows and bridge, and the lifeboats were smashed against the side of the ship by the heavy seas when they were lowered. About 15 minutes after the explosion, Hampshire sank by the bow. Of the 735 crewmembers and 14 passengers aboard, only 12 crew survived after coming ashore on three Carley floats. A total of 737 were lost including Kitchener and all the members of the mission to Russia.
The 48 feet high Kitchener Memorial, now a listed building, was erected in 1926 by the people of Orkney to commemorate Lord Kitchener and the crew of HMS Hampshire. The memorial, a square tower with battered walls of coursed rubble, sits atop the cliffs keeping watch over the final resting place of the hundreds of men lost to the sea.
In 2016 an arc-shaped HMS Hampshire commemorative wall was added alongside the memorial. The wall is of local stone, inlaid with granite on which the names of all 737 men lost are engraved.
