I'm very glad they included silicone keypads these ones feel great and are weighted quite well.
Going to test a few LED's to see which ones disperse light well so my buttons look like buttons and not squares with lights in the middle.

V3xx on left. V3i on right.
The keypad has a slightly different layout and also a slightly different glow color. The V3i is also a litlte brighter, but you can only notice that when you have them side by side.
Back in July 2008, California began enforcing the law that prohibits people from talking on a cell phone while driving. People have to wear a bluetooth in their ear in order to talk on the phone.
However, there are still people out there who don't know about the law or don't really care about the new law. Many people are still driving around while talking on their cell phone!
Did you know that talking on a cell phone is more dangerous than drunk driving. Did you know that text messaging while driving is also just as dangerous as drunk driving?
It's amazing that people would even consider text messaging while driving. Did people lose their common sense?

Double check the land patterns, the silicone and the conductive rings for dust, solder, flux or other stuff that can cause the buttons to malfunction over time.. they have to be absolutely clean! Use q-tips or soft cloth with alcohol if you want to make sure they're clean!

"Dr. Emmett Brown: If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour... you're gonna see some serious shit. "
This is a wall-mounting, approximately half-scale model of an H.E.V. suit charging station from the 1998 game Half-Life (more specifically, its appearance is based on the model seen in the fan remake Black Mesa).
The completed build is 9.5"w x 13.25"h x 4"d (24 x 33.5 x 10 cm) and includes a flexible power hose and flip-down keypad.

"Power level is - one hundred - percent."
The main modification visible externally is the numeric keypad. This was added from parts of a second computer, and the story is kind of interesting: two MZ-80Ks were stolen from the company that owned them. After the insurance company had paid for them, they were recovered by the police, but the thieves had already broken one up for parts.
Since both the complete machine and the parts now belonged to the insurance company, which had no use for them, they were sold for far below the normal price (remember this was in the early ’80s, when even a simple computer like this cost a small fortune). That allowed my father to buy the complete machine and spares from the other, including a keyboard. From that, he made a numeric keypad, sawed an opening for it in the case, and added it to the machine. The inserts in the keys are simply pieces of coloured paper with dry transfer numbers and symbols on them.
The Sparkfun keypad pcb's have a weird mounting hole pattern, probably based around the 2x2 silicone button pad. Due to the design & dimensions of the Machinecollective.org enclosure (based on the design of our protomodules) you'll have to reduce the size of the keypad pcb. Some of the options are cutting, filing, grinding or biting, make sure you don't hurt yourself.. ;-)
