My Apple Extended Keyboard II and Magic Trackpad.
Essentially an update to this photo from 2008, which showed a previous AEK2 (yes, I have several) with a Kensington Expert Mouse.
Lion motivated me to switch from a trackball to a trackpad, even on my desktop, in order to be able to use the new multi-touch gestures, mainly the four-finger swipes.
The overlay on the keyboard was made using one of my own applications.
I remove the keypad, revealing the raw PCB. In the top-left corner is the power input. It takes 5 volts.
Experiments in projection mapping onto a stack of laser cut retro styled TVs I built.
Scene 1: This is tic-tac-toe played on the screens. Each move triggers a video of me drawing a nought or cross on a whiteboard. Could be a fun interactive piece for an event controlled by competitors using their phone keypads.
Scene 2: Here I'm using randomly generated Space Invader like patterns. Based closely on work by Jared Tarbell.

These are the original keypads used in the first iteration of Convergence Jukebox on a Windows computer. While Convergence Jukebox was written in Python the first iteration employed Auto Hotkey and these inexpensive USB numeric keypads. In operation the keys were covered with a removable Avery label to direct users to press the proper keys.
Demonstration of a homemade membrane keypad, made from aluminum tape, acetate, and paper. Connected to an Arduino Duemilanove development board.
There is no software debouncing going on, hence the multiple keypresses. working on a matrix debouncing library.

Tonight I met up with Amy and hit up Osaka to try one of these pineapple fried rice dishes. Not exactly a dish, they bring the meal to you in a halved pineapple! Not bad but it was a bit bland to my taste. The curry on their Thai menu is very good though. The novelty of the halved pineapple sucked me in! The place was really busy and our table seemed like it was in the center of the room. The hustle and bustle really got me anxiety ridden. Most of the time I have no problem with a room full of people, other times like tonight when seated in the center of a busy room it feels like the walls are closing in on me. Perhaps it's that it has been a trying week but I'm also not fond of large, noisy crowds of people. Well, unless it's a concert, which is a bit dualistic.. I guess the experience really has to be worth it to deal with discomfort. We finished our meals and headed out to grab a coffee and look for something to shoot, it was getting late. We hit up a couple locations then I admit, this photo was taken at ten after midnight, but I liked it.. Just some light trails, nothing big, it was cold as heck. Later we chatted it up and two hours got behind us, iced coffees are good ;)

The only peripheral supplied as standard was the little numeric keypad shown here. The cable ends in a 7 pin DIN plug, the signals are roughly 2 for power and a 5 bit code to indicate which key is pressed,
The keyboard signals go to an SAB3012 chip on the logic board which then sends a serial bitstream to the remote control signal interface of the SAA5070. I am not conviced this is the simplest way to do it.

Tonight I had the pleasure of working and shooting with Sophia. She had contacted me about being part of the 365 a few weeks ago so tonight I decided to get her involved. We spontaneously threw together an artistic concept that we actually changed up a bit to what you see here. It's always fun to work with someone who also has creative abilities. We spent a bit more time than anticipated with makeup but I'm happy with the results. Looking forward to shooting with Sophia again! Thanks for being a part!

Metal shrapnel (Shrapnel for short) (because its switch is like an upside-down pot, it is commonly called Guozi slice, or 'pot slice'), also metal dome in English, made of stainless steel, is an important part of the switch.

The strength is determined by demand. Do not use it under too high temperature. Excessive temperature will seriously affect the service life of the metal dome.
The metal dome is used on the membrane switch to play a conductive role, conducting the two-pole contact of the membrane switch and rebounding by its own elastic force to complete the power-on and power-off functions. It is energized when the shrapnel is down and powered off when the shrapnel rebounds. Give the customer tactile feedback during the rebound process, with a certain feel (Note: proper operation, excessive back and forth movement may cause the switch to lose response).
There are many common causes of failure of shrapnel:
The operation is too frequent.
The pressure is too large, the stroke is too high.
The isolation layer is too thick.
The operation force is too small.
The effect of these reasons on the membrane switch is that if the shrapnel is forced too hard, the shrapnel cannot spring back, resulting in a continuous path, which means that the metal dome has been working.
The too-frequent operation causes the switch to malfunction and does not work for a short time. Excessive pressure will directly crush the shrapnel and keep working or not working. If it is too large, the metal dome may not be able to complete the work.
Therefore, the factors we need to consider when applying metal dome to the membrane switch are whether the metal dome can withstand the pressure of this product, whether the stroke is consistent with this product, and the isolation layer should not be too thick.
Metal domes are not without a fixed shape and size. They are a kind of custom-made products that can change the shape and size according to the needs of the product. The specifications and sizes of commonly used metal dome or snap dome are:
Specifications of the round snap dome:
Size: 2.5mm, 3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm, 4.5mm, 5mm. Round keys currently with these shapes are much used by customers.
Strength: 90gf, 100gf, 130gf, 160gf, 180gf, 200gf, 220gf, 250gf, 260gf, 280gf round keys. The most used strengths are divided into these types
Appearance: there is one contact on the top, four contacts, and five contact buttons, and there are also no points and one contact on the top. The three-snap points are evenly distributed on the edge. The round metal domes are all the key shrapnels with the shortest stroke in the shape of the metal dome.
Specification of triangle snap dome:

This controller is often ridiculed, but I feel that most of the criticism is unfounded. I actually sort of like this controller. I find it comfortable. The keypad with overlay support is a bit retro, but perhaps they just wanted to kick it old school. It does make games like Alien vs. Predator or Iron Soldier, where there are lots of weapon selections, very convenient to play. The three action buttons are labeled C, B, and A, and the aux buttons in the middle are marked “Pause” and “Option”. All in all, it feels somewhat inspired by the Lynx. Strangely, the connector plug is a VGA Monitor plug. The only negative thing I have to say about this controller is that when you play most of the games on the Jaguar, you’ll definitely notice the lack of an analog stick. I can’t really knock too many points off for that, though, since nothing had analog sticks at the time, it wasn’t until the N64 came out a few years later that people realized you needed analog control for 3D games.
It is big, I’ll give it that, but it’s actually roughly the same size as the Dreamcast controller or the original XBox monster pad. It’s also fairly light because it’s mostly empty inside, unlike the lead-lined Duke.

I just fixed my RAZR V3xx. I broke the keypad ribbon cable taking it apart -- and my spare housing (bought cheaply off Ebay) has a bad keypad. (Looks like it has the "starbucks virus" ... aka, someone spilled coffee on the table and it went into the phone.) So I picked up a new keypad sensor assembly for $13 off ebay and I'm back in business.
The phone actually works better than before as the "down" direction on the d-pad never felt very good. Now it has a nice click like all the other keys.
