This near-perfect beach was considered one of Europe's best by The Sunday Times, and ranked number two in The Independent's list of top 10 Portugal beaches. Close to Sintra, and just 15km (9miles) north of Guincho, it is wedged between tall cliffs and has clean blue waters. It is no longer a secret and gets its number of sunbathers, but beyond the cliffs there is plenty of space and seclusion.

It is always so great to shoot at stunning location as Adraga beach near Colares is, however trouble always is to pick one or two from the series of great shots you make. Weather was very changeable and rather misty, mysterious and wild at the same time. Portugal is blessed with such a dramatic coast that is a joy to visit and photograph.

Isle of Skye - The Quirang is a fascinating rock formation on the Trotternish peninsula on Skye. It is approximately two miles north west of Staffin and six miles south east of Rubha Hunish. The Quiraing is a spectacular landslip on the eastern face of Meall na Suiramach, the northernmost summit of the Trotternish Ridge on the Isle of Skye. The whole of the Trotternish Ridge escarpment was formed by a great series of landslips; the Quiraing is the only part of the slip still moving, the road at its base near Flodigarry requires repairs each year.

The Trotternish Ridge lies on Skye's northernmost peninsula known as Trotternish. The northernmost summit on this ridge is known as the Quirang which has a fantastic maze of pinnacles, cliffs and flat grass tables that were formed by an ancient landslide of biblical proportions. From below these cliffs look huge, upon closer inspection you find many intricacies - scree slopes provide entrances to reveal an intricate maze of deep chasms and huge rock walls.

The evening grosbeaks are still here, as are a few lesser goldfinches, a pair of American goldfinches, some golden and white-crowned sparrows, a single (?) lincoln's sparrow, some bushtits, the odd rufous hummingbird, a pair of band-tailed pigeons, plus the rest of the usual suspects. Joining the party yesterday was the first wilson's warbler. Next up should be the tanager, western flycatcher, and warbling vireo.

Here are my dates of first arrival for the wilson's, who for the most part keep a relatively neat schedule:

I joined Friends of Photography Meetup for some evening fun shooting the sunset and Milky Way at Pigeon Point Lighthouse in Pescadero, CA. I was a little concerned about the clouds and marine layer as we were driving down, but things held out nicely and I was able to do my first Milky Way Shoot. I stacked my images using Sequator and I am glad I did. There was a big difference in quality between using the stacking software and just using the individual photo. I'm sure with practice I'll get a little better. I also used my nisi reverse NDG filter for the sunset photo. This filter is quickly becoming my favorite.

WHAT IS WABI-SABI?

www.nobleharbor.com/tea/chado/WhatIsWabi-Sabi.htm

"Wabi-sabi is underplayed and modest, the kind of quiet, undeclared beauty that waits patiently to be discovered. It's a fragmentary glimpse: the branch representing the entire tree, shoji screens filtering the sun, the moon 90 percent obscured behind a ribbon of cloud. It's a richly mellow beauty that's striking but not obvious."

The next chapter of sadness for Philadelphia's tram network arrived last week as the operator shut down the famous line 15 so PennDot can waste money on unnecessary urban freeway expansion. Given the deteriorating state of the vehicles and SEPTAs penchant for "temporary" tram closures it seems the odds are not good for the PCCs making a comeback. In 2018 I had a day in Philly and was able to get a few PCC shots before running off to track down the last of the AEM7s. As with everything I should've done more with this.

Europe - UK - United Kingdom - Scotland - Western Isles of Scotland - Outer Hebrides - Isle of Lewis - Island's West Coast - Callanish Standing Stones - Standing Stones of Challanish (Calanais or Chalanais in Gaelic) - One of the most spectacular megalithic sites in Scotland at Dusk - Twilight - Blue Hour

We all have those special places we always wanted to visit, Callanish Stone Circle was definitely on top of my list of such places. As you can guess, no visit to Scotland comes for free and weather can be at its most playfull.... as it was for last 3 days - near gale wind and constant drizzle, which is so famous for these islands but nothing should stop very devoted photographer from capturing what he/she had in mind... and therefore the gale and drizzle didnt stop us from taking photos at this unique location - that is also explanation for the EXIF data... I would have much rather used ISO 100, f11 and 30 sec but than the lens would get way too many drops... and I might have been blown away with the camera and tripod ;)... still despite those conditions I'm really pleased with the result ;)

We joined a group of on-lookers beside the road to Crane Flat to see this black bear on our recent trip to Yosemite NP. S/he seemed to have been in some confrontations. Notice the injury to the left side of its snout, a scar on the right ear, and a missing piece of the left ear. S/he was feeding on plants and did not seem at all concerned with us. Although it's not visible in this shot, there was a collar around its neck. Alice posted a shot of Bear #2 that we saw without any other people around; Yosemite NP; CA; USA

Avebury is a Neolithic henge monument containing three stone circles which is located around the village of Avebury in Wiltshire, south west England. It is located about twenty miles to the north of Stonehenge. The Avebury ring is the oldest stone ring that is known to be in existence anywhere in the world and is even older than Stonehenge. Unique amongst megalithic monuments, Avebury contains the largest stone circle in Europe, and is one of the best known prehistoric sites in Britain. It is currently used as both a tourist attraction and a place of religious importance to contemporary Pagans.

Constructed around 2600 BCE, during the Neolithic, or 'New Stone Age', the monument comprises a large henge, surrounded by a bank and a ditch. Inside this henge is a large outer stone circle, with two separate smaller stone circles situated inside the centre of the monument. Its original purpose is not known, although archaeologists believe that it was most likely used for some form of ritual or ceremonial usage. The Avebury monument was a part of a larger prehistoric landscape containing several older monuments nearby, including West Kennet Long Barrow and Silbury Hill.

Between May and September it's possible to see, during the new moon nights, the Milky Way. One day in June, I headed to the area of Plemmirio, in my cousin's company, to be able to see such spectacle in the night.

We arrived in the afternoon and scoured the area to find something perfect to achieve the the night compositions. After a while, we found a wonderful arch that rose out in the blue sea.

We waited the rising of the milky way to admire the magical night sky.

Not one of Iceland's iconic locations but when the roads from 5km in either direction of the hotel are closed due to extreme weather and you only have 10km of road open, you have to make the best of a bad job but having driven down this glorious long road to this scene, the sun started setting so we pulled up and grabbed our cameras. Ten minutes before we were assisting a group of German tourists by removing banked up snow from under their Skoda Yeti when they tried to drive in 15" snow. It seems that Yeti's are not that good making their way through the snow after all, lol.
