3000 volunteers and community leaders will join forces to clean the banks of the 80-mile Charles River at the 13th Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup. In a partnership led by Charles River Watershed Association, volunteers from 35 towns within the Charles River watershed work together to beautify our valuable river.
This one of their BIGGEST events of the year. Water pollution & contamination can spread like wildfire if nothing is done. So let’s get out there and help make a difference in the community and the environment. You may love singing along to “Love that Dirty Water” but let’s be real, you’re singing about a river that is dirty. Let’s Cleanup the Charles!

On Saturday, November 15, Monterey joined the nationwide protest of the passing of Proposition 8 in California. The event began at 10:30 AM at Colton Hall, the birthplace of the California Constitution and concluded in a march through downtown Monterey to Window on the Bay.
In 1849, California’s first constitutional convention was held at Colton Hall in Monterey, California. This historic landmark is now the oldest continually used municipal building in California.

The occupy wall street movement is a peaceful movement started in NYC to protest against the wall street companies that are according to the protestors the reason for all the economic troubles in the United States. The protests have carried on for over a month and the people are still strong. They brave the fall cold and extreme weather conditions to protest.

Nurses join with partner environmental groups to demand climate justice now
More than 1,200 California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee registered nurses, environmental and healthcare activists, and students on Dec. 3 marched and rallied in Los Angeles to demand that the world’s leaders, now convening in Paris for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, adopt a binding and enforceable climate treaty, commit resources to fund the transformation to clean, renewable energy including a just transition program for those who now work in the fossil fuel industry, and call on wealthy, developed countries to provide resources for the less-developed countries to act on climate, with funding coming from a carbon tax and the Robin Hood Tax.

Bolton’s Neighbourhood Team joined partners on Monday to seize nearly one-hundred canisters of nitrous oxide in addition to cannabis, illegal tobacco, and illicit vapes in a day of action.
The group, which included local officers, trading standards, immigration officials, the fire service, and specialist sniffer dogs carried out the searches at six premises on Derby Road, Bolton, including restaurants, shops, and takeaways.
The activity was carried out to ensure that work was being conducted legally and within the confines of their licenses. This included dealing with reports of illegal activity that have come in from the local community, such as anti-social behaviour, suspected drug-related criminality in the area, and more.
Immigration officials checked the legality of workers, the dogs checked for illegal tobacco and cash hordes, and the fire service checked to ensure buildings were adhering to the appropriate health and safety rules.
The day resulted in numerous positive results, including the recovery of 97 canisters of nitrous oxide gas from two vehicles which were identified by the sniffer dog team.
Nitrous Oxide became a Class C drug in 2023, which allows police further powers to seize and arrest those who possess and sell it for illegal purposes. The two cars were seized by officers.
In addition, a quantity of cannabis in snap bags was located, as well as illicit vapes which do not conform to UK standards. All were seized by police and trading standards.
The activity in the area will continue as officers bid to clamp down on suspected criminality, which will include further visits, proactive patrols, stops, and more.
Anyone in the Bolton area and who has information they would like to pass to police are asked to contact their local neighbourhood policing team. You can do this by speaking to an officer in the street, attending a PACT meeting, or by reporting the information online at gmp.police.uk.

Sergeant Oliver Cooper, from GMP’s Bolton district, said: “When people let us know about suspected illegal activity in their area, we investigate it to the best of our ability and utilise all the resources we have available.
“Illegal business practices and illegal behaviour will be dealt with accordingly and with the safety and security of local people at the forefront of any decisions. Monday’s actions show just how much we are dedicated to reducing crime in the Bolton area.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) joined forces with a national road safety initiative on Tuesday 11 November, to crack down on uninsured drivers across the region.
Recent data from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) revealed the UK’s worst hotspots for uninsured motorists, with Manchester’s M18 postal area in Gorton ranking 8th nationally.
In response, GMP’s Roads Policing Unit carried out targeted checks in high-risk areas, using MIB intelligence to focus enforcement efforts.
This operation forms part of Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s (GMCA) Vision Zero strategy, which aims to eliminate road deaths and life-changing injuries by 2040.
During the day of action, officers intercepted vehicles and directed them to designated checkpoints for compliance inspections. The results were:
88 vehicles stopped
5 vehicles seized
1 driver arrested for drug driving
Additional enforcement led to multiple Traffic Offence Reports (TORs), including:
17 for seatbelt offences
7 for mobile phone use
8 for number plate violations
7 for illegal window tints
4 for driving without insurance
1 for driving without a licence
1 drug-driving arrest under Section 5A
1 search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act
Sergeant Rebecca McElroy, Roads Policing Unit, said: “The M18 postcode was identified as the eighth worst in the UK for uninsured drivers.
“According to MIB statistics, one person is killed every week by an uninsured driver, and every 20 minutes someone is hit by one.
“Every day, someone suffers life-changing injuries because of this crime. Driving without insurance is not acceptable. It’s six penalty points and a fine, but more importantly, it’s about doing what’s right and keeping our roads safe.”
Kate Green, Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester, said “Uninsured driving is not a victimless crime. It puts people in danger and contributes to collisions that can tear lives apart. Recent figures show Manchester’s M18 area ranked among the UK’s worst uninsured hotspots – a stark reminder of why targeted enforcement is so important to keep everyone safe.
"Our Vision Zero ambition is clear: no one should be killed or seriously injured on Greater Manchester’s roads. That means tackling dangerous behaviours head-on and supporting GMP as they use intelligence-led operations to keep people safe.
"I want to thank the officers involved for their work in identifying those who choose to break the law and endanger others. This is about fairness, responsibility and protecting every person who travels on our roads. We’ll continue working with partners nationally and locally to ensure that unsafe driving has no place in our city region.”
GMP will continue to work with national partners to tackle uninsured driving and educate motorists on the importance of compliance.

Too many American heroes defending our nation overseas, and too many athletes who give their heart and soul to our nation’s most popular sport are suffering from traumatic brain injuries. We need a public-private partnership that brings together the resources and best research to develop the technology and equipment needed to best prevent brain injury. Working together with leaders in Congress, the NFL and Army we can make smart investments in the kind of equipment and technology that will drastically reduce traumatic brain injury.
