Here's the song. He doesn't have a bad voice, although the song is pretty 1965 cheesy. The girl in this pic is Jackie DeShannon who was his girlfriend at the time.
34/365. 19/10/08. The A-side of Psycho Daisies. This is a great song, definitely worth a listen. Jimmy is chugging away on rhythm, looking great too :) Jeff Beck on lead. An early attempt to create a "psychedelic" music clip as well. This is the only single The Yardbirds released with this line up.
Background is from here. Thanks.
Resurrected for 7 days of shooting. Wild Wednesday. Circular. Sadly, the youtube clip has been pulled because of copyright.

There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know, sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder
There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
Oh whoa-whoa-whoa, oh-oh
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
And there's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder
Oh, whoa
Your head is humming and it won't go
In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow?
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

Re-posted on the annual day of this album coming out originally posted in 2010. On the 13 August 2019 Led Zeppelin Instagram showcased the original artwork from the iconic album featured in the 50th Anniversary book 'Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin'. They also include details that I was unaware of like who took the photograph. This post has been very popular with 107,500 views as of 25 February 2021.
What follows is my observation in seeking out the location of this iconic album cover and further design and album details updated.
Whilst in New York this year it was a must that I find the tenement block that featured on my favorite and Led Zeppelin's biggest album Physical Graffiti. When I got back home I set about changing my photographic view to match the cover artwork. On the web it is widely known that the building is 5 stories high, but on the cover the building has only 4 stories. When I started to compare my photograph and the album artwork I soon realised that as well as the 4th floor being removed, artist Peter Corriston also added a number of further elements that include extra tiles, faces and sides of the building. Part of the top right railing balcony was left out for a whole window frame to be visible. See my notes below. I have just amended the Wikipedia listing with these new findings.
Artist Peter Corriston worked with designer Mike Doud to convince Led Zeppelin manager, Peter Grant, that the cover art idea was a good one. Unlikely as it may seem, the concept was itself heavily influenced by the design for Jose Feliciano’s album, Compartments (1973). The new version was created by using a photograph of a New York apartment block, situated at 96-98 St. Marks Place.
Peter Corriston recalls: "We walked around the city for a few weeks looking for the right building. I had come up with a concept for the band based on the tenement, people living there and moving in and out. The original (vinyl) album featured the building with the windows cut out on the cover and various sleeves that could be placed under the cover, filling the windows with the album title, track information or liner notes".
The tenements were shot by New York photographer Elliott Erwitt. The front-cover shot was taken in daylight and the back was taken at night. Sepia prints were made for the outer package and they and the inner bags were then hand-coloured by Maurice Tate - the best hand-retoucher in London at that time. Jimmy Page described the cover as "A peeping tom's delight". The title was coined by Page to convey the amount of physical energy and creative writing that had gone into producing the recordings for the album.
The building is still standing today. In the basement is a second-hand clothes shop. The name of the shop is, naturally, Physical Graffiti.
Although Physical Graffiti was originally designed to be the debut release on the Swan Song label, the album’s elaborate cover art, which features a New York City tenement with interchangeable images visible through the building’s die-cut windows, forced a delay. The release of Bad Company thus took the Swan Song debut honour all the way to the top of the Billboard album chart. Within six months Physical Graffiti also hit that peak, giving Led Zeppelin another number one album, in the week of March 22, 1975. The centrepiece of the album is a song called Kashmir. Despite the fact that Stairway To Heaven is the band’s best-known song, Kashmir is generally considered to be the ultimate Led Zeppelin track.
An eclectic gallery of celebrities and icons inhabit the building and they can be spied through the windows. Amongst the tenants therein are Lee Harvey Oswald, Neil Armstrong, Elizabeth Taylor, King Kong, Charles Atlas, Queen Elizabeth, Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s portrait of Proserpine, the Virgin Mary and Laurel & Hardy. Perhaps I should do a second version with these figures in the windows or with the lettering.
Peter Corriston lives and works in the heart of Greenwich Village.
Many current rock stars were huge Les Paul fans. Jeff Beck along with Jimmy Page had a good time with Les at New York City’s Hard Rock Café 1987.

This house was owned by Led Zeppelin guitarist, Jimmy Page. It may still be. He was in dispute with neighbour Robbie Williams some years ago. The latter wanted to build a mega-basement, Page prevailed. Actor Richard Harris was previously an owner. The house is a stunning piece of Victorian Neo-Gothic architecture.

Led Zeppelin 1977 - Jimmy Page - Robert Plant on stage @ MSG / Madison Square Garden. If you had a choice of which rock concert to be at in the 20th Century, I feel that this one would be in the top 10. I was there with about 8 friends. Minolta XE-7 400mm preset lens with Kodacolor II 100. As proof that I took this, i still have the negative. It was just scanned with my Konica-Minolta DiMage Scan Elite 5400 II.

Day Twenty-Six of the December Diary 2011 Project This years Theme... 'MUSIC' %-)
With only FIVE days left of the December Diary... and tomorrow being allocated to my Annual Catchup with my dear friends Toni & Bruce. I've saved my FOUR biggest faves for last... Starting with Led Zeppelin
Without a doubt... they were my FAVOURITE band in my teenage years... and still remain one of them!
The first album I remember buying of theirs was "In Through the Outdoor" - which came out in 1979 when I was 13. (That photo above is of me @ 15 in my Led Zep t-shirt that I wore religiously! LOL!) %-)
All Of My Love was the hit single. I LOVED it... and just LOVED that album - thrashed it religiously. Gosh does it bring back memories! Fool in the Rain was another fave from it... Hot Dog too! %-)
My Brother.. who is 10 years older than me was also a big fan of theirs... in fact I was to discover when I was a bit older that he actually got to see them in concert! He is a fabulous guitarist himself, (influenced by the likes of Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Jimi Hendrix and many other guitar greats from that era). He was in a few bands back in those day too. He did that fabulous pen drawing there in the middle. It's a copy of 'The Hermit' fro the inside sleeve of the 'Led Zeppelin IV' album, and is on Mum's lounge wall.
I just love SO MANY of their songs.... that it's almost impossible to pick out just a few. I guess I could say..... go watch the movie "The Song Remains The Same" - which came out in 1976. It gives you a bit of everything... Music... great visuals... and a bit of an insight into the lives all four members- Robert Plant. Jimmy Page John Bonham and John Paul Jones. I don't know HOW many times I saw it when I was young... and now have it on DVD.. so can watch it whenever I'm in the Mood. %-)
I can't speak highly enough of this band...
And always get great enjoyment whenever I listen to them again! %-)
Stairway To Heaven (Couldn't leave this one out!) %-)
