I only recall one Generation 1 episode where Optimus Prime used a jetpack. In More Than Meets The Eye, Part 3 he uses Sideswipe's jetpack to chase after the Decepticons, who had just launched off to Cybertron. I'm quite certain there was another episode...

Also known as the Flying Pulpit, this, one of three proof-of-concept machines, first flew around 1980. Power was from one modified Williams F107 turbofan called the WR-19-A7D, rated at 600 lb thrust. It could hover or fly in any direction at speeds of up to 60 mph. Endurance was 45 minutes.

With his Jetpack he's able to be surprisingly fast near the enemy. He's good in his job. He needs his steel blade to kill a bug, if the first shot failed or there are more then one .
