I met a first officer from Insel Air who asked me to take some pictures as he departed that afternoon. He said he'd stand on the breaks and show the beach the power of the Mad Dog's engines. This is the effect it had on the beach and the surf. (3 of 3)

Beware of jet blast during start-up!

Classic for Mirabel spotters, the "F1 season" started with a Boeing 747-8F exactly like this one. VQ-BFU is the third Formula One cargo plane to touch down on at YMX this year (runway 29).

This Saab 340 was carrying out engine runs on the 09 Threshold at Glasgow Airport in the low winter sun. I decided to have a bit of a processing adventure with this photo.

I thought this sign was pretty cool; not something you'd see anywhere else in the world. In fact, Maho Beach is one of the few places in the world where one can view aircraft in their flightpath virtually just outside the end of the runway. Incoming air traffic is known to touch down as close as possible to the beginning of the runway due to it's short runway length.

People standing on the beach have been blown into the water because of the jet blast from aircraft taking off from the runway adjacent to Maho Beach. The local government warns that closely approaching and departing aircraft can "result in serious injury and/or death." An additional fence has been added recently behind the runway to prevent irresponsible tourists from hanging on to the main fence surrounding the runway to be "blasted" by the aircraft engines' flow.

The Red Arrows take off in perfect formation for their rolling display at Leuchars.

The weather conditions stopped them doing the second half of the display but they were still able to show off loads of excellent formation flying skills.

"Weiden in der Oberpfalz" arriving after a rainshower at Hamburg, Germany.

The aircraft carries a special livery, showing a football on it's nose, in spirit of the Worldcup being held in Germany in 2006.

Note the reflections on the wet tarmac and the tyre's trails through the standing water, besides the jetblast behind the engines. If you look very closely you can even see through the bypass of the engines! I was lucky, too, to catch the flash of the beacon. A fave.

Watch out for the exhaust.
